Northfield House is a specialist dementia Care Home with a welcoming, home-from-home atmosphere in a traditional style.

The home offers permanent 24-hour care, specialising in caring for older people afflicted by various forms of dementia, in addition to offering respite or short-term care if needed.

The high-quality accommodation is clean & comfortable, providing every amenity to meet the needs of 25 elderly people. It has a family atmosphere, ensuring that the health & well-being of the residents always comes first, whilst receiving the finest care possible.

Northfield House is staffed by a dedicated, professional & well trained team of managers & care workers. Their ongoing training program ensures that staff have a comprehensive understanding of all required areas to provide for the needs of residents. They ensure the home is run to the highest standards, adhering to the latest rules & regulations, whilst meeting their mission statement: “To provide care with compassion and commitment”.

Every prospective new resident undergoes a full assessment before admission, to verify that professionals can provide the care they need. An all-inclusive care package is created for each new client & is updated regularly ensuring any changes in their care needs are properly met.

My cousin was a resident at Northfield for the last four years of her life. I was only able to visit infrequently but was always impressed with the quality of relationship between carers and residents.

From the moment I made the first enquiry and spoke to the manager, I felt a weight had been lifted off my shoulders. She was so helpful and positive. I was in London with Mum so my daughter went to look around and sent me photos. She was struck with how friendly and welcoming the home was. I chose the
room and phoned the manager. She knew my situation and agreed I could move my mum in the following Monday, foregoing the meeting usually held before a resident joins them.
When we arrived we were warmly welcomed, nobody minded me staying the night to settle her in, just asking what I needed.
Mum enjoyed her time at Northfield House and settled in very well. The staff were wonderful, kind and caring.
When we found out that Mum's time was coming to the end the staff did everything they could possibly have done to endure that she was comfortable and treated with dignity. They were marvellous in their understanding and support of both Mum and also me. I don't believe there was anywhere she would have been looked after better.

My stepfather was admitted for respite care and at first, everything was ok. Then things started to go wrong. The carers are wonderful but are often battling to do their jobs. Managers are very rarely seen and difficult to get hold of. There was a distinct lack of communication and never any follow
up of questions asked. More severe residents with dementia were not occupied and there is a lack of entertainment and activities for the residents. When asked about this on 2 separate occasions we were told it was in the process of review. When my stepfather left at the beginning of February there were still no daily activities. Residents are left to watch television with very little stimulation. One of the more noisier residents was moved away from everyone else in the communal area and left in the smaller room with the receptionist! I would not recommend this establishment unless there are some serious changes with how it is run.

My dear Nan came to Northfield after years of living in sheltered accommodation. Dementia meant she sadly could no longer live alone. Any fears I had about Nan going into a care home were quickly allayed as Nan was loved, supported, respected at Northfield. They accommodated Nan's needs and gave her
back a happy and sociable life. Right up until Nan sadly passed there in April of this year she had an enriched life at Northfield. I shall be eternally grateful for that.

The care team at Northfield House are very good. They realise it's not just your mother or father going through dementia but the family is too and they are very happy to sit down with you and talk to you as it progresses.
The office door is always open. I know when I leave my mother on an evening,
she is in the best place and I know she is safe.

My wife and I visited all the care homes in the Stroud district and collectively agreed that Northfield House offered the best care available. Our views were confirmed whilst my mother was a resident in the home. She was treated as an individual, not simply as a bed-resident. The staff were caring at
all times and coped with my mother's dementia admirably. Nothing seemed to phase the staff. In this context they were wonderful. It is a home which I would wholeheartedly recommend.

My mother was very well looked after, the room was always clean, as was the bedding.
The staff always took care when dressing her, by matching a jumper with a skirt, etc not
just putting things on with no thought. It is the little things that count, as my mother always liked to look her best, they
even painted her nails.
Having a hairdresser on site makes it easy to make sure the ladies and gentlemen look their best.
Would certainly recommend Northfield as a warm and friendly place.

My husband arrived at Northfield for respite care.
His short stay was a very happy one.
His welcome was warm and generous.
Within a few hours, he looked and behaved like a different person.
He had been smartened up with a shower, shampoo and shave.
The staff seemed very happy in their roles and
this was reflected in their attitude to patients.
The home was very clean and bright.
It was decorated in a style which would appeal to Dementia patients with many bright colours.
I am thrilled to have found Northfields and if my husband goes into full-time care I shall not hesitate to choose this Stroud gem as my first choice.

Choosing a care home for my Mum was a nightmare until I walked into Northfield House. Nothing was too much trouble and they had her settled quicker than I ever imagined. The office staff are efficient and answer any queries quickly. There is always a friendly face and a warm welcome when visiting. The
carers made a real effort to get to know my Mum, she was so well looked and really cared for, it was wonderful to see her happy, laughing and joking with the staff. Her room was clean and bright. Her end of life care was second to none and I can't thank you all enough for everything that you did, not just for Mum but the family too. I would definitely use Northfield House again and can't recommend them highly enough.

My mother was a resident for about 2 1/2 years. In her time there she was well looked after and her room was always clean and tidy, the carers seemed sympathetic and attentive.

Cannot praise everyone enough. My husband was cared for in a very kind and caring manner as were all of his relatives and friends. The staff were wonderful. We witnessed staff interactions between other residents and only ever saw kindness and care. Thank you all so much.

My sister, who has multiple problems has been cared or in a professional, kind and appropriate way. Extra provision such as a storyteller and masseur have been made possible. Despite some bizarre behaviour from my sister, she has always been given additional help with eating and activities.

My mother has been a resident of Northfield House for almost 2 years. In that time the manager retired with her assistant. For a while, it became disjointed as a few members of staff left and consequently, new staff along with new manager were learning the ropes. I can honestly say now that the home
is running smoothly and all the staff are trained and knowledgeable regarding dementia.

I was really concerned about my nan moving into an 'old people's home' but I understood why she needed to go. In my opinion, she couldn't have ended up in a nicer place. The home is bright, well decorated and welcoming, there is always something going on. The staff are all fantastic, so kind, caring
and friendly. There is a warm, family atmosphere and I know that nan is fond of a lot of the staff and other residents. When we visit my 4-year-old daughter and I are made to feel very welcome and at home. She is never "shhh-ed" or told not to do anything. It's such a lovely, happy place. I can't thank the lovely staff enough.

My mum was a resident at Northfields House for approx 4 years. She had Alzheimers and passed away in February 2016. The staff & carers at the home treated her like a family member at all times. Treated her with love & care. Mum felt safe there. She loved all the entertainment - music, parties, games....visits
from Santa! When her illness really took hold, the carers treated her with the utmost respect.

Sue’s journey in care originally started in the 1970s when she worked for several years as a Care Assistant for the elderly. Sue then focused on raising her young family until returning to the care industry in 2002 when she and her late husband Richard purchased their first care home, Quarry Mount, in Swindon.


Their vision for compassionate care expanded in 2009 with the acquisition of a sister home, Northfield House in Stroud. At the heart of Sue’s approach is the belief that both residents and staff should be treated as part of an extended family. This philosophy has been the cornerstone of her care homes’ success and reputation.


The powerful motto is “Care with Compassion & Commitment”. encapsulates the ethos that drives every aspect of care at both homes: The staff are chosen not only for their qualifications but also for their ability to show kindness, understanding, and empathy. Keeley

Keeley Ward

Keeley's journey at Northfield House began in October 2022 as Assistant Manager, quickly progressing to her current leadership role as Manager.


With a diverse background spanning 12 years in the care sector, Keeley has nurtured individuals from newborns to centenarians, both in community settings and care homes. This breadth of experience has honed her ability to provide personalised care for residents with varying needs, including those living with dementia.


Keeley’s expertise extends beyond traditional care environments. Her time at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) and Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH) in the ophthalmology department enriched her skill set, where she assisted with minor operations and gained valuable theatre experience.


At the heart of Keeley’s approach is a steadfast commitment to ensuring that every resident feels valued, loved, and receives the highest standard of care. Her mission aligns perfectly with Northfield House’s ethos: “To create a nurturing environment where every individual, regardless of their vulnerabilities or cognitive challenges, experiences happiness, love, and the exceptional care they truly deserve.” providing Care with Compassion and Commitment.

Kaylee

Kaylee Saunders

Job Title: Assistant Manager

Kaylee originally began her career in care at Northfield House nine years ago, where she first discovered her passion for supporting others. After a break to raise her young family, she returned to the field, joining a large 45-bed nursing home. Whilst there, she gained valuable experience completing several essential training courses, including First Aid, End of Life Care, and Manual Handling.


Following another break in care to help look after her ailing grandfather until his passing, Kaylee then rejoined Northfield House, where she showed a natural aptitude for caregiving and strong leadership skills which quickly became evident, advancing her to the role of Senior Care Lead while pursuing her NVQ Level 3 qualification, which she completed with distinction.


Recently, Kaylee was promoted to Assistant Manager, reflecting her commitment and expertise in the care sector. Kaylee’s journey is a testament to her dedication and the impact of compassionate care on both residents and staff alike.
