Royal Court is a unique home as it offers spacious self-contained apartments for residents with round the clock residential care. The 44 light and spacious apartments are grouped into small communities to give a calmer and more personal environment. The Butterfly Wing offers specialist dementia care and it has its own staff team, kitchen, dining room, lounge and safe access to the garden. In addition there are double apartments to accommodate couples, a respite care suite and an apartment for Bariatric Care.

Royal Court is in a quiet residential area of Cheltenham with good bus links to the centre. The purpose built home has spacious lounges, dining rooms and the modern conservatory floods the communal spaces with light. Each apartment has its own front door, lounge (with kitchen area), shower room and bedroom. Residents and families often find that having their own apartment makes the decision to move into care that much easier.

The accessible gardens include raised beds, an allotment, greenhouse as well as large lawns and courtyard area.

The care team includes dementia specialists and a qualified nurse (who works closely with the GP surgery and district nurses).

The catering team provide fresh, nutritious home cooked food and are skilled at adapting the menu for different dietary requirements and those with swallowing difficulties.

The activities team work both individually and in groups to offer varied, stimulating and enriching activities including visiting musicians and entertainers, themed days and parties, arts & crafts, gardening, games, gentle exercise and trips out.

My aunt arrived at Royal Court confused and frail following a traumatic accident. The love and care all members of the team have given my aunt has been very special.

My partner suffers from Huntingdon's Disease and we use Royal Court for respite services several times a year. The care they provide is second to none. They look after my partner in a caring and respectful way, listen carefully to her needs and requirements and have made it a place she is now happy
to go when I need a break which is an absolute godsend. Royal Court provides interesting activities and exceptional food which is so important for people in care to keep them as healthy as they can be, I highly recommend them.

My 97-year-old mum took up residence in Royal Court just after Christmas 2023 and lived there till she died in March 2024. Although living independently before a number of falls and illnesses meant she no longer had the confidence to live alone, so moving into care was a huge and potentially distressing
change. However, from the moment she arrived the team made her so welcome that within a couple of weeks she felt very much at home. We initially chose Royal Court because she was able to have a separate bedroom, bathroom and living room with kitchenette (and lots of windows) so she wouldn't feel she was moving into a 'home' so much as moving into a new flat, albeit with a team of wonderful people keeping their eyes on her 24/7. Of course, it is the people, not the bricks and mortar, that make the difference and I can't praise the team at Royal Court enough. They were, without exception, absolutely brilliant. Kind, caring and fun as well as professional and knowledgable.

Thank you so much for writing your review. We're so pleased your mum had a wonderful time at Royal Court in her apartment and that you were happy with her care. We really appreciate your compliments to the team, it'll make their day reading this. Thank you again.

This is my mother's second short stay at Royal Court and I cannot rate it highly enough. The process of moving into the home and then back out is very easy due to the excellent management, the management team are brilliant, the deputy manager is extremely personable and friendly, a real asset. All the
staff at the home are courteous, friendly and knowledgeable about the residents in their care. The food looks extremely nice and the home itself is always exceptionally clean and tidy. The staff really do go out of their way to accommodate specific requests. This would be my number one choice if my mother ever needed permanent care.

I cannot speak highly enough of the help and support both my mother and the family have received, following the need for Mum to go into residential care (following a fall). Mum moved into Royal Court in January very confused and unsettled, following four months in hospital. The support, kindness and
understanding shown was second to none, along with the medical care needed to support Mum on her recovery. This level of support has continued and Mum has settled in so well, enjoying her new surroundings, the activities (especially the trips outs), and care provided. As a family, we feel welcomed, that Mum is getting excellent care and that she is safe and happy. What more could you wish for a special member of your family? I wish to thank each and every member of staff for their care and kindness to Mum. I would highly recommend Royal Court Care Home.

Managers and staff welcomed my husband and the visiting family warmly. This continued throughout the stay. The apartment style accommodation was very homely. My husband and I felt heard and the staff adapted the care given as requested. Communication was acted on and appropriate. The managers were
particularly supportive and helpful with this and also in assisting with working with statutory agencies. The domestic side of the home was great, clean and tidy with a range of foods on offer well prepared and presented. Visitors were offered refreshments at each visit and I was invited to join my husband for a shared meal which was very special.
We experienced further support from Royal Court staff over the discharge arrangements when things were facilitated to ensure the best timing possible to meet up with other professionals. Royal Court provided the use of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, driver and escort.
We would not hesitate to recommend Royal Court to someone in need of care.

I have been impressed with the gracious and careful care offered by the staff who are very willing to meet my care needs, which were not well described in referral documents. Carers have been friendly and attentive, willing to listen to my description of what feels comfortable and to gain a better understanding
of how my stroke has affected my needs. The carers work well together and are very respectful, explaining what they are doing and explaining why, which sets a tone of care and respect that is very person-centered. I have felt fully involved in planning and decisions. The senior staff have worked respectfully to support arrangements for my transition home from my respite placement, which was part of a hospital discharge plan. I have been kept fully updated, communication with my professional support network has been very appropriate. The hospitality has been exceptional, very attentive to visitors, offering drinks and refreshments and supporting family members to join me for meals.

Royal Court has gone above and beyond for my mother. We needed emergency care for her after she was unable to be safe at home alone. They placed her in a superb apartment within two hours of contact.
Her care here is amazing! We haven't seen my mother this happy since my dad passed away.
Staff are
always friendly and approachable for anything we ask. There is a lovely atmosphere here as soon as you walk through the door. Mum's personal and social care is fantastic.
The activities provided are so varied and fun. Mum knows she can take part in whatever she likes but doesn't feel pressured if she doesn't want to take part. Mum also enjoys the outings she is taken on.
Before Mum came here she had chosen to stop eating and drinking. Now she really enjoys her food. Mum looks so healthy!
We had a rare tricky situation involving her funding but the manager was so supportive and reassured us that Mum can stay here and they love having her.
We really appreciate everything all staff do here.

My relative is a very private person and the Butterfly Wing at Royal Court gives them the privacy and quiet that they need. They are very happy there and really benefit from being able to have their own things in the room. They enjoy the garden and also say that the food is very good.
When I visit,
the staff are always very welcoming and kind. They always seem very attentive and sensitive to my relative's needs. The premises are clean and bright and the fact that there is safe access to the outdoor spaces is a real bonus.

My father has been happy to be at Royal Court. Having experienced another care home, albeit for a very short period, he has come to value where he is now and the obvious care that he receives. He enjoys the food, which is a significant bonus given that we were quite sure that he was probably not taking
proper care of himself in that regard. He has often repeated that he is very glad to be where he now is, and the feelings of isolation that he had experienced whilst living as a widower have been mitigated by this new situation. He very much likes the staff and their friendliness, and even some of the agency staff he has come to enjoy and like for their kindness towards him.

My mum has been in the care home since last November, and I must say, overall, how good the caring team are. Nothing is any trouble when you ask. Very supportive. I was really upset for my mum to go into care, as this wasn't what I wanted for my mum, but I couldn't look after her 24-hours a day. Royal
Court has supported me and my mu, every step of the way, and may it long continue, thank you.

We are so thankful that we chose Royal Court when my uncle had his fall two years ago; it enabled him to retain his privacy, which has always been so important to him, and to keep his precious things all around him. All his needs were met, including good food and regular human contact with an amazing
team of carers. They accepted him as he was and treated him with respect at all times. We watched their care of him change as his needs changed, and their facilitation of our contact with him through an open window last summer and through telephone calls more recently was without exception kind and empathetic.

During his last week, when distance prevented us from visiting, his minister was allowed to visit him daily, which was a huge comfort to us and to my uncle. The minister said, "he has expressed the wish to have someone with him at all times, and his carer has been with him all day". I am extremely impressed by the care of the staff. He is in very good hands."

My sister-in-law received every assistance when she needed by very attentive staff. She has a hearing problem and had difficulty with her hearing aid, which you have sent for repair and provided aa board for hr to communicate with. Staff have helped her with her knitting wool and even a favourite meal
in; curry for her. She feels very special, and the family feel happy that she has your care.

Staff are friendly and helpful and try to encourage my mother to join in. She often comments that she likes food, especially afternoon cakes. Even during the lockdown, they are doing their best to care for their residents.

I have found the staff wonderful, and I heard nothing unpleasant said to anyone. When I required help, response to the bell was good. We were always warm, comfortable and fed very well. Entertainment was fairly good - difficult because of covid19. We are well locked down, and so far, have has no up
of any infection in here, we are tested every four weeks.

When I first came here, the menu was done by the catering manager, since then, the menu is done by office staff at HQ every week. I have to have an alternative meal sometimes as many as four. Although clearly marked, laundry goes missing. I have had trouser missing for three months before re-appearing.
I am missing one pair and a vest at this time, perhaps more supervision would solve this problem. Apart from this, the management and staff are considerate, kind and caring and could not be better.

My husband just stayed for five nights respite. Due to Covid restrictions I did not get the chance to enter the home and my husband was kept mainly in his room. He has Parkinson's plus other health issues and feels he was well looked after and said his room was better than some hotels we've stayed in.
I
wouldn't hesitate to use Royal Court again. I felt I was leaving him in safe hands. All notes taken at our home for assessment were actioned.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.317)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.317) out of 10 for Royal Court Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.888 for Royal Court Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.888

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.429 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Court Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.729

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
