Roger had a fantastic stay in Halcon over Christmas, he joined in many activities and was included in all the Christmas fun. He enjoyed the food and friendly caring staff. He always looks forward to his visits which helps me cope at home to have a break.

I am always very happy to review the Halcon Centre after my regular respite stays and it is always deserving of 5 stars.
Halcon never fails to drop their extremely high quality and standard of care. It's welcoming as soon as you come through the door, and on returning home make you feel as though they
are disappointed to see you going home.
During my stay this time, which was for three weeks, I had unfortunately three small health episodes that required immediate attention. This was caused through my spinal injury which I have had for 26 years. If dealt with quickly, which it was, is fine however and the care I received was as good as if I was in hospital. I felt safe and there was no panic just a complete professional approach by the staff however it did not spoil my stay in this very special care home.

Halcon Centre literally saved me during an incredibly difficult time.
The manager is an absolute tour de force and will go the extra mile to help in any way he can. He really is exceptional. There is a fabulous camaraderie amongst all the staff and I felt comfortable and very well cared for during
my stay. The whole centre radiates fun and unity and I cannot wait to go back!

I moved from another area to Halcon Centre about 2 years ago. I enjoy the freedom to go out when we want in our accessible car to places like the cinema, bowling and town. There are in-house activities such as card making and Bocha baking.

Halcon Centre is an excellent respite care home. The staff are caring, kind and helpful and the home is well led with the management taking an active interest in all the clients. I have been able to take part in activities that I would not have been able to enjoy at home ie. a cinema visit. Well done,
this home has improved massively since my last day five years ago.

I like my stay at Halcon Centre because it is quiet and relaxing, has friendly staff and nice food. We go out walking around the town, shopping. We have art classes and play games. I would recommend the centre to friends.

Thank you very much, very good. Living the dream.
I would like more activities, stimulating activities for my mind - games, word games, memory tests etc. Group or one-to-one. Bowls, chair hockey.
Lovely, supportive staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Love you.

I was a regular respite client but had not been for two years because of the pandemic. I was made very welcome on arrival. The manager and staff are always very helpful, friendly and capable. Their care is excellent and nurse visits are pre-arranged as required.
I was taken out several times including
into Taunton where I was helped to buy clothes in Marks and Spencer at my request. I was also able to buy some jewellery for my wife. There were also activities at the centre and a TV in my room. I enjoyed my stay.

Halcon is exceptional, even during lockdown the care given was 100%, nothing was too much trouble for me, lovely and caring staff. Ranging from the food to little things like getting the paper I preferred thoroughly recommended.

My son has been residing at the Halcon Centre for several months. He is receiving excellent care there which gives me complete peace of mind for the first time since he was discharged from an acute care hospital after sustaining severe, multiple injuries. This was over 4 years ago. The Halcon Centre
is extremely efficiently well run. It is warm and welcoming and is a 'Home from Home'. I am extremely thankful that my son is being so well cared for and can highly recommend this respite centre. We have been very fortunate.

I brought my young daughter over to Halcon to visit my Aunt who was there in respite. The staff were wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to be helpful, even getting my daughter a milkshake and us both lunch. I was astonished and extremely impressed to see the manager
of Halcon with an apron on and cooking the lunch. It is a sign of a great manager when they are willing to step in and help wherever needed.

My husband is very demanding soul, yet the staff of Halcon treat him well and look after all of his needs as soon as they can, as well as helping him with his wants too!
He takes a lot of care and patience, which he is shown. Banter is a big and important part of his stay too. He always prefers to
be at home but tells me that if "home" had to be anywhere else, it would be at Halcon. The food has made a vast improvement this year.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.830)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.830) out of 10 for Halcon Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.930 for Halcon Centre is calculated as follows: ( (94 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.93

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Halcon Centre is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I am passionate about breaking down the barriers that many young people with complex physical disabilities experience to living a fun and fulfilling life, and instead support their ability to live their lives as they choose. At the Halcon Centre, we create the right environment and provide the right specialist care to empower these young adults to take control of their own lives. We have no strict routines here – our residents can choose when to get up, when to eat and what they want to do with their day. Our role is to ensure all of their needs are met so that they can enjoy being as independent as possible.

I like to think of the Halcon Centre as an accessible hotel with 24/7 tailored care and support thrown in – our residents are our guests, and we want to make sure that their stay with us is an enjoyable and hassle-free experience.

As a small-scale respite and residential care centre, we get to know those in our care as individuals, to learn their likes and dislikes, understand their hobbies and interests and share their sense of humour. Whether long-term residents or returning respite visitors, building this rapport provides familiarity, comfort, continuity and reassurance for those we care for, helping them to truly feel at home at Halcon. Ultimately, we are here to support you to live life to the full, on your terms. So, whether you’re interested in staying with us for a respite break, or considering something more long-term, we are here to help you thrive.
