The Old Vicarage provides a welcoming and friendly home for older people where they can feel comfortable, safe and happy. Prospective residents are welcome to spend a week or two at the home prior to moving in to ensure they make the best decision for them and their needs. Visitors are always welcome from prospective residents and their loved ones, and they may stay for lunch or for an entire day with prior notice so that they can get a real feel for life at the home.

Residents’ individual needs are taken into account when delivering care at The Old Vicarage. From arrival, staff strive to ensure residents are as comfortable as possible and are always on hand to assist with the settling in process. Each resident has a key worker who gets to know residents and ensure all their needs and preferences are met.

My dad is 99 years old and went into The Old Vicarage on the 3rd of December last year for respite care. He settled in quickly and he decided he would like to stay. The care Dad receives is excellent, the staff are very thoughtful and kind. The home is spotless, the food is very good and you could not
ask for better! Whilst Dad does not take part in the activities, he will join everyone in the lounge and watch what is happening and the activity leader will always chat with him and he is happy with this arrangement. Dad looks better than he has looked in a long time. I wish I had encouraged him to move there sooner!

Mum has been at The Old Vicarage for two years now. Following a severe stroke, Mum needs constant care. Loss of her independence has been hard to accept for Mum but the kindness and patience of the staff at The Old Vicarage have helped her to make the adjustment. I am confident that Mum is well looked
after. She's settled now and doesn't want to move. She interacts with the other residents and staff. I'm so grateful to The Old Vicarage for the way they look after Mum. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone who is considering residential care for themselves or a loved one.

My 95-year-old mother has been at The Old Vicarage since June 2018. As her nearest relative, I (and my partner) could ask for no better place for my mother to be. She is too physically incapacitated to live on her own and we can always rest assured that the care that she gets is appropriate, generous
and comprehensive.
She is encouraged to do as much as possible for herself, which uses her time and keeps her brain and faculties alive. All the staff are infinitely patient and everything is done at a speed she can handle, both mentally and physically. She delights in the beautifully kept garden and adores her scrabble sessions - both 1:1 and in the day room.
Covid-free throughout the pandemic, visiting is not as informally easy as it used to be, but we are able to visit her as much as possible - and the dog is always welcome, which is a real anchor for her.
The staff retention record alone is a testament to the quality of management, which is always open, accessible and responsive.

I am a friend of a service user who was very reluctant to consider residential care of any type. However, events took over and serious ill health meant a long stay in the hospital after which residential care was the only realistic, safe option.
My wife and I visited several local residential homes
on our friend's behalf but The Old Vicarage stood out as being perfect and we had no hesitation in recommending the home.
The resident has settled in very well and has found the management and staff to be very kind, caring and efficient. She has a very pleasant double aspect room in which she takes all her meals and has made it as homely as possible. The food is very good with excellent choice and she has gradually got to know many of the other residents and now takes a full part in the activities and outings arranged.
She is happy and very well cared for and now in much better health, due to that care.
I have no hesitation in recommending The Old Vicarage.

A lovely, old-fashioned place that retains many original features. The staff are nice and friendly. The food is excellent and cooked in the kitchen at the home. (Lovely main meals and home-cooked cakes etc). The activities are good and all the residents can join in if they want to enjoy themselves.
Exercises and listening to music, for example. The rooms are a nice size and I have a lot of my own furniture here.

Lovely, sunny room. The staff were kind and helpful and the food was excellent. I was very well looked after in a pleasant room. The bed was a bit firm for me but otherwise, I enjoyed my stay here.

I have been arranging my husband's regular respite stays at the Old Vicarage for well over a year, following extensive research. Everything about the Old Vicarage which persuaded me that this would be where he would be most happy and comfortable have been proven spot on and in many cases exceeded. On
our first visit, we both felt immediately at home and truly cared for by the manager and staff. Since then, we have been nothing but impressed by the stable management with an experienced staff of long-standing, rather than frequent changes of personnel as in some care homes. The attention to detail in communications with myself as well as in my husband's care, the imaginative range of activities, the quality of the food, the lovely garden and village setting, and the fact that this is an old building of character rather than an impersonal, characterless custom built home. My husband loves going and being there and always arrives and leaves with a smile, looking forward to the next time.

Dad went to the Old Vicarage in June from hospital after having had a stroke. He was made to feel welcome from the start and quickly settled in. Dad loves to walk and sit in the beautiful gardens, and he loves the home cooked food, often telling me what he has had to eat and the choices on the menu.
Dad has joined in the activities at the care home and has rediscovered some artistic talents that I did not realise he had. The staff are wonderful in all aspects of his care, and I thoroughly recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for a care home for their loved ones.

We needed some respite care for my step mum at very short notice. After the relevant covid checks were completed, she was soon settled and incredibly well looked after. The Old Vicarage cared for her in a home-from-home setting (with passionate staff, home cooking and stunning gardens) in a professional,
personal way. We could not fault the service given and it would be our first choice if we need any care for our parents again. I would highly recommend the Old Vicarage, it’s a hidden gem, tucked quietly out of the way, just 5 minutes from Cannington close to Bridgwater.

Dad spent the last 10 months of his life here, in comfort, in wonderful care, and surrounded by a team of staff who became his greatest friends. He chose not to avail himself of the lounge and activities, (and the activity leader consequently came to him, so that he didn't miss out, which he enjoyed)
so his whole world revolved around 'his girls'. The expression "above and beyond" fits perfectly with how I feel the staff cared for him, physically and emotionally. He truly bonded with them, and some of the nicknames I heard him use spoke volumes about their relationship. Senior management were accessible, patient and incredibly helpful to the family in Dad's last days, and all the staff were warm and welcoming to phone enquiries about his daily wellbeing. Please note: when my time comes, don't take me anywhere else!

I have just spent two weeks here, while my children, with whom I live with, have been away on holiday. The nursing home is in a lovely part of Somerset and has the most beautiful views and a very large garden with easy parts to walk around. Although I will be glad to go home, I would also be pleased
to come back in if I had to.

Mother was a resident at The Old Vicarage Care Home for over two years and during that time she was looked after superbly well. The various activities such as the crafts, the music, quiz and fitness sessions, going into the garden and helping with the flower and vegetable beds, some of which are raised
so even those with mobility problems can join in, were particularly enjoyed. When latterly Mum was unable to leave her room, the staff members would take activities to her or just pop in to chat to let her know they were there for her so she wouldn't feel lonely.
Despite having several health issues which meant she was increasingly dependent on her wheelchair and help from the staff; ways were always found to help her do as much as she could and wanted to. The patience of all the staff knew no bounds and it was obvious that the well-being of the residents is paramount. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for a safe and caring home for a family member.

My husband spent 5-nights at The Old Vicarage and his care was amazing. The staff were so caring with him, all his needs and more. The home has a lovely welcoming feeling, and the gardens are also lovely. I would highly recommend it. My husband will be going in again at the beginning of May 2022.

During these unpredictable times, the care and attention given to residents of The Old Vicarage and their families have been amazing.
From a health direction, standards have been exceptional in achieving and succeeding in keeping residents safe from Covid.
We were able to visit before lockdown
either outside in the beautiful grounds or in a room adapted by the home whereby we could chat and enjoy seeing residents from a safe distance. When in lockdown, we are able to do window visiting - both visiting arrangements being simple to organise by a phone call. This has meant so much to both residents and their families.
Residents are encouraged to participate in activities - from physical exercise, crafts of every description to crosswords - ensuring residents are kept occupied and happy both physically and mentally.
We, as a family, hear of all this and other important bits of information by receiving a weekly newsletter - the home recognising communication is vital to all concerned.

My mother spent 22-months at The Old Vicarage, she was lucky to have a bungalow room adjacent to the main building, and would highly recommend this to potential clients. During her stay, she received loving, personal, professional care from all the exceptional staff, nothing was too much trouble. The
home has lovely well-maintained gardens, and visitors always made welcome with offers of tea, coffee and delicious homemade cakes. The advantage of the bungalow allowed us to move some of Mum's furniture in, and so it felt like visiting in her own home. If you are unfortunate to be self-financing, then costs are always too high and a negative, so my rating of value for money as excellent is against quotes we received for other homes we visited when deciding on a care home, their fees were much higher, for a perceived less attractive package.
