My mother has been a resident of Pulsford Lodge for the last 18 months, during which time the level of care and support she has received has been excellent and she has, very importantly, always been treated with dignity. Her room is of a good standard and kept clean. The food is well presented with
good selections. Activities appear to be plentiful and very well planned. All dealing with management have been extremely positive and financial matters have always been dealt with in a very professional way.
In summary, an all-round excellent care home, which I would thoroughly recommend to anyone without reservation.

My father went to Pulsford Lodge in March 2023. The level of care was fantastic, he was looked after so well by all the staff, the kitchen staff, the activities ladies, the nurses and the carers, sometimes they all went above and beyond his needs. The food was amazing and would always get him an alternative
if didn't want what was on the menu (although he ate most things) At the end of his life all the staff were so kind, providing us with tea and food if we wanted it. I would highly recommend Pulsford Lodge.

Our mum was becoming more and more incapable of living at home due to dementia and for us as a family, it was a great relief when she was admitted to Pulsford Lodge in August 2023. The staff are caring and capable and always welcoming when we visit. Mum is well looked after and supported. The activities
are interesting and stimulating and the food looks good. Overall and excellent home-from-home!

Pulsford Lodge offers an amazing care service. We participated in seasonal activities (salt dough decorations) as well as being surrounded by Christmas decorations and festive cheer being December. It was fantastic to see everyone involved and included.

We attended the Easter fete.
All the staff were friendly, however not much going on for children.
Gran enjoys the activities.
Children were welcomed and involved in truffle-making activity when visited at Christmas.

My mum moved into Pulsford Lodge last August when she was finding it harder, and wasn't safe to be living alone.
I have been so pleased with how well she has settled in. I think this is mostly down to the staff at Pulsford. I can't fault it in any way. They are all so friendly and welcoming when I
visit. It is always so clean. The food always looks good. It has a homely feel about it. All the residents seem just as happy as Mum, and I enjoy my visit.

After a fall last year, my mum had respite care at Pulsford Lodge - the whole experience was fantastic. Staff, cleanliness, food - superb. Mum did come home, but now does one day a week at Pulsford Lodge with a view we may increase this - we are receiving the same first class we had previously experienced.

I have nothing but praise for the staff. My sister-in-law requires an enormous amount of patience which is extremely difficult when they are short-staffed. In my experience, those that deal with her are always kind, understanding and thoughtful. Her room felt rather small during COVID, but she seems
to feel secure.

I have enjoyed my time here, but I do feel more carers are needed at times. The people (residents) and staff are friendly, and I feel I've known them all my life. All the staff are helpful.

My Mother was at Pulsford Lodge for a number of years. She loved her room, enjoyed all of the activities. The staff were kind considerate and caring. The home and her room were always clean and tidy with a welcoming atmosphere. We could not be more happy with the way she was looked after. I would have
no hesitation in recommending this care home.

I have been pleased, impressed and reassured by the way Pulsford Lodge staff have cared for my mother during Covid times when I have not been able to visit. The staff take the time to keep me informed of my mother's health and about how the care home has been fairing. Thank you all so much.
My only
suggestions for improvements would be for residents to be able to contribute; such as food preparation and for there to be hens in the garden.

The environment and care at Pulsford Lodge is exceptional. The building is light with lots of small lounges, a lovely dining room and pretty garden. My mother was very happy there and the staff were very respectful, caring and kind. The food was excellent freshly cooked with plenty of variety. When
my mother was taken ill, the staff were very professional and efficient. I would be very happy to recommend Pulsford Lodge to anyone.

The care given to all residents is amazing, very relaxed and happy home. Nothing is too much trouble and the home is kept very clean yet not clinical.
Having worked in elderly care myself for many years in various homes I feel Pulseford excels in both its care and environment. Since arriving in June
2017 my nan has been cared for so well that I can actually not be her carer but her granddaughter over for a cup of tea. Excellent activities and the food is great too.

My father lived at Pulsford Lodge for six years before his death on 27th July 2017. On recollection, we could not have chosen a better care home for him to be in.
He was happy and all the staff whatever level were always kind and considerate and the care and attention he was afforded during his last
few weeks were quite exceptional. A first class care home.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.173)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.173) out of 10 for Pulsford Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.759 for Pulsford Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (63 Excellents x 5) + (20 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.759

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.414 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Pulsford Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.714

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Alison Bailey

Job Title: Registered Manager

I am very priviliged to work in the home of our residents at Pulsford Lodge. I firmly believe that I work in their home, they don’t live in my workplace. I always tell them that I am here to keep the lights on and make sure everything runs as it should, but ultimately this is their home and we work to their rules. They have a say in everything – from personalising their rooms to choosing the activities they would like to take part in. Pulsford Lodge is very much a home, not a hotel, and we want our residents to feel at home here, and their loved ones to feel safe in the knowledge that they are being well cared for.

I started out in care when I completed work experience in an elderly care setting when I was just 15. It was at that point that I realised how valuable and rewarding it is to care for our older generations, and how much you can learn from the stories and life experience of care home residents. It absolutely makes my day to have a conversation with one of our residents – we both get so much from it. I love knowing that if I have made just one person smile, I have changed the course of their day for the better, and that is what I am here to do.

My overriding passion is around dementia care, and changing attitudes about those who live with dementia. Dementia is not something to be ashamed of, and at Pulsford Lodge I have seen first hand how our residents who live with dementia are so full of life and capable of achieving so much. My role is to support our residents to live the life they choose, support their loved ones in understanding and effectively communicating with them, and to get people talking about what living with dementia really means.
