Cedar Lodge is located in the peaceful northern outskirts of Taunton, overlooking a large park known as Taunton Green which was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1952. The home was modernised and extended in 2004 to provide it with the first class facilities expected in all Notaro Care Homes. Residential care is provided for 42 people living with dementia in an extensively refurbished, warm and friendly home. The Limes is situated at the rear of Cedar Lodge in a separate facility and provides residential care for 15 people living with mental health conditions other than dementia or learning disabilities. The Limes is a groundbreaking project entered into with the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2008. The home provides a progressive programme for people living with dementia in a safe environment. Carers understand the importance of meaningful activities for people living with dementia. Activities are built into all areas of life in the home. Life history and reminiscence work help to stimulate residents, so improving their self-esteem and sense of well-being.

I travel from Wales to see my nan regularly and I can't fault the care she receives. She is always clean and tidy and never has a bad word to say about her 'home'. The staff are extremely welcoming and will always go the extra mile for the visitors and the residents.

Staff all very nice and genuinely seem to care about the residents. Care home is a bit dated but clean and homely feel to it. Food always looks nice. I am always offered a drink when I visit. I don't think the staff are able to give my mum the care she needs but this is down to mum's mental health and
lack of support from wider authorities.

The limes unit is a wonderful place to be. The staff are caring and considerate. I am lucky to be able to better my life by staying at the Limes. The staff are friendly and its a comfortable atmosphere to be in. The food is excellent and for the first time in my life I have a quality of life which I
didn't have before I moved to the limes. The manager is excellent at her job and has a lot of responsibility.

I feel very fortunate that my daughter is in the Limes. The Limes staff and especially the manager have helped and supported my daughter and she is now feeling better than she has for the past 25 years! What they've managed to do is turn her life around with patience and a structured environment. The
Limes is a wonderful environment, a lovely atmosphere and the staff are amazing. I truly feel so lucky as I believe the Limes have saved my daughter's life!

My uncle came to live at Cedar Lodge Care Home in the summer of 2022 as was struggling to look after himself and was very vulnerable and at risk of coming to harm living in the outside world, and naturally family would always be worrying about him. All the family are happy with the care he gets and
know that he is safe. He is also the happiest we have seen him.

My experience of the home is that mum seems happy, full of smiles. She enjoyed the singing and seeing the rabbit, holding it and stroking it. It seems that activity really cheered her up. She enjoys going for outings and having a bath. Everytime her nails are painted mum shows them to me and smiles.
The staff seem to pay attention and help mum when she is upset.

When I visit my brother-in-law who lives at Cedar Lodge. I always have a warm welcome, lovely staff and all are caring people. The manager is very nice and understanding. The food is lovely and all fresh veg and looks hot, not frozen rubbish. Keep up the good work at the Cedars Lodge.

My dad has been living at Cedar Lodge for almost two years. It has been hard for him at times as he gets very anxious but the staff have always been so kind and reassuring. They have encouraged him to make decisions for himself whenever possible. I find that there is good communication from the lodge
regarding my dad's needs, and if there are any changes in his care I know he is safe and content at Cedar Lodge.

I visit the home weekly but on different days. I have always found my relative clean, tidy and well cared for. The home itself is always clean, as is his room. His clothing is washed and clean and neatly put away. I find the staff friendly, approachable and showing kindness to all residents. Some residents
can display challenging behaviour at times, but staff continue to show care and kindness. I have witnessed many attempts by staff to encourage and engage residents in a variety of activities. The food provided is of good quality. My relative is content with his surroundings, making allowance for his dementia and has made no complaints to me about his treatment. He especially likes the food, which from a highlight of his day. I have no qualms about recommending the home to future residents.

Since our Mum arrived at Cedar Lodge we have been very happy with the service given. Mum's very happy and we feel this is down to the great members of staff who play a big role in caring for our Mum.

It took me a few months to settle in at the home but after 18 months I feel it is truly my home. With my health problems, both physical and mental, I'm prepared to end my days there!
The staff are very friendly, often having a good laugh which they share with us residents.
The manager is excellent.

My sister has settled in well and finds the home can cater for all her needs. Any health problems are looked into and arrangements made if a GP is required. Staff are very friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. My sister can receive visitors with no problem, as well as being able to go out
on visits. Food is excellent, with plenty of variety and choice. I have no concerns/anxiety when I visit. The reception staff are always very helpful. Cedar Lodge is always very clean with no unpleasant odours, which I have found when visiting other care residences.

Matthew Parrish

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2007

Matthew joined Notaro Care Homes in 2007 as Registered Manager for Cedar Lodge Dementia Residential Home, where he continues to work today. Matthew’s career in care started long before as a care assistant, back in 1988. His love and passion for working with individuals living with Dementia drove his career and he quickly climbed the ladder to become a very successful and respected Manager.


Matthew says his reason for working in care is to be able to enhance people’s lifestyle through person-centered care and enabling residents to live as independently as possible. Working with others to create an inclusive living and work environment.


In his spare time, Matthew enjoys participating in many sports, cooking for his family and exploring local history and travel.


In Matthew's recent CQC inspection it was noted by the inspector ‘There is an excellent registered manager employed at the home who was clearly passionate about providing a high quality, individualised service’.
