Cedar Lodge is located in the peaceful northern outskirts of Taunton, overlooking a large park known as Taunton Green which was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1952. The home was modernised and extended in 2004 to provide it with the first class facilities expected in all Notaro Care Homes. Residential care is provided for 42 people living with dementia in an extensively refurbished, warm and friendly home. The Limes is situated at the rear of Cedar Lodge in a separate facility and provides residential care for 15 people living with mental health conditions other than dementia or learning disabilities. The Limes is a groundbreaking project entered into with the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2008. The home provides a progressive programme for people living with dementia in a safe environment. Carers understand the importance of meaningful activities for people living with dementia. Activities are built into all areas of life in the home. Life history and reminiscence work help to stimulate residents, so improving their self-esteem and sense of well-being.

Well, where do I begin? What a wonderful member of staff one colleague is. She truly went above and beyond on Saturday 9th September, accompanying my mum to her granddaughter's wedding ceremony. From the minute of meeting at Cedar Lodge on the morning until returning early evening, she was by my mum's
side. I am so grateful of this, I can't say thank you enough.

The setting is homely and welcoming; the daily activities are varied and interesting, which my father enjoys.

Each time I visit the home, see my mum or meet the team, I feel so reassured that my mum is receiving the best care, attention and love. While it's never easy to see a loved one suffer and decline from this degenerative disease, it is some solace that she is in such care. My thanks to the manager and

I cannot give enough praise to the staff at Cedar Lodge, they always go over and beyond what I’d expect ensuring my dad is looked after. He recently needed treatment at hospital, every day for a week, they brought him back and forth keeping him calm and comfortable. I would recommend Cedar Lodge to

My dear wife suffers from Korzacoff Syndrome. I tried to look after at home but failed miserably - I just could not cope. Social Services then arranged a respite break for her at Cedar Lodge. At first, I was smitten with guilt and grief when told that she would become a permanent resident. Now, some
three years later, I can see that she is happy and being extremely well looked after by your wonderful, caring staff.
She now regards Cedar Lodge as her home and has made new friends.

My brother has been a resident for nearly two years. He has a lovely, spacious and sunny room. The staff are patient and take great care of him. Sometimes this may not be easy, but they do it with good grace and humour. Cedar Lodge has been perfectly fair in their application of Covid-19 restrictions.
We are now relieved that they are being relaxed.

My mum is a resident at Cedar Lodge Care Home and is the happiest that my sister and I have seen her in years. The staff are truly wonderful. She likes to go out and they take her for walks or shopping whenever she asks. If we have any questions the manager is always available to help us. I cannot fault
this care home in any way and it is such a relief to us to see her so well cared for and so happy in her later years. Thank you all.

I visit my mum a few times a week and every time I go in, the staff know exactly what my mum has been doing, how she is, etc. It gives me a warm feeling that all the staff are aware, they all care and they all take time to chat to all the residents, no one is excluded. All residents are cared for equally
and I cannot imagine a lovelier environment for my mum to be in. Mum is always dressed well and looks good, something that was always important to her. The staff make sure she eats well and on the days she does not want to eat they sit with her and try to support her. All I can say is that it is a lovely environment.

Dad moved into Cedar Lodge nine months ago, he was made to feel very welcome and so was I. I have been impressed at the level of communication, care and compassion shown by the staff; whenever I ring the senior always knows where Dad is and how he has been. If he is unwell I am informed immediately
and told about treatment/GP visits etc. I observe that Dads views and wishes are respected, he is not patronised or belittled. He is encouraged to be as independent as he can be and he feels he can make his own decisions. The staff are stable and consistent, I feel that the staff really know him as an individual and would know if he was unhappy. Dad has been happy since his move into Cedar Lodge, he recently had a stroke, staff kept me updated and were proactive in ensuring his needs were met. I have not had to chase them on anything.

Mum's had the best care since she's been a resident at Cedar Lodge. She had the opportunity to move to a much bigger room which she loves.

Cedar Lodge is an exceptional home.
My grandad was living here for 5 years and he loved living here. He was always given and shown love by every employee there.
The staff always made his very large family welcomed.
When he became very poorly the staff were amazing they treated him just like he
was their family member. They were so supportive of the family as we were always there, even slept there. They went above and beyond for us all. As a family we can’t thank them enough for the past 5 years, Cedar Lodge is one of a kind and can’t recommend it enough.

My partner had been at Cedar Lodge almost four years. During that time, she was treated with easy courtesy. She had a fall and had to have her left hip replaced, after which she returned to Cedar Lodge. However, in spite of all the loving care she was given, she did not survive the ordeal.
The end
of life care and treatments she received were above and beyond. Doctors and nurses and carers kept her from pain, she went to sleep at peace. The allowed me to be with her all this time and gave me great support and are still supporting me now.

My wife has been in the care home for over 18 months and is nicely settled. The staff are first class and make sure that she is clean, with clean clothes and eats and drinks well. She walks about but staff keep a keen eye on her to make sure she doesn't fall.

It is now over six years since my mother went into Cedar Lodge. I cannot begin to say how wonderful she is cared for and it gives the family such peace at mind that she is so well looked after. We are always made to feel welcome when we visit and the staff are all amazing and do such a wonderful job
and credit to them all for being such a great team. I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to place your loved one.

My mother has been a resident of Cedar Lodge for a few years now and though I have watched the heartbreaking effects of dementia unfold over this time, the staff at Cedar Lodge have provided my mum with the utmost care and love every single day. As an expatriate living overseas, there is no better reassurance
for me that my mum lives in such a caring and safe environment for someone with such a devastating disease. I have nothing but praise for the team there and am so thankful for the welfare they provide.

Being here staff accepted me for me. They never judge. Their support is amazing. They don't judge you about your past. They go on how things are now. They are very easy to approach. They listen. They help. If you don't want to talk straight away they give you your space and they are ready to talk when
you are. They always knock before entering your room, even if its open. Being here is the best because you can grow as a person.

Matthew

Matthew Parrish

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2007

Matthew joined Notaro Care Homes in 2007 as Registered Manager for Cedar Lodge Dementia Residential Home, where he continues to work today. Matthew’s career in care started long before as a care assistant, back in 1988. His love and passion for working with individuals living with Dementia drove his career and he quickly climbed the ladder to become a very successful and respected Manager.


Matthew says his reason for working in care is to be able to enhance people’s lifestyle through person-centered care and enabling residents to live as independently as possible. Working with others to create an inclusive living and work environment.


In his spare time, Matthew enjoys participating in many sports, cooking for his family and exploring local history and travel.


In Matthew's recent CQC inspection it was noted by the inspector ‘There is an excellent registered manager employed at the home who was clearly passionate about providing a high quality, individualised service’.
