Cedar Lodge is located in the peaceful northern outskirts of Taunton, overlooking a large park known as Taunton Green which was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh in 1952. The home was modernised and extended in 2004 to provide it with the first class facilities expected in all Notaro Care Homes. Residential care is provided for 42 people living with dementia in an extensively refurbished, warm and friendly home. The Limes is situated at the rear of Cedar Lodge in a separate facility and provides residential care for 15 people living with mental health conditions other than dementia or learning disabilities. The Limes is a groundbreaking project entered into with the Somerset Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in 2008. The home provides a progressive programme for people living with dementia in a safe environment. Carers understand the importance of meaningful activities for people living with dementia. Activities are built into all areas of life in the home. Life history and reminiscence work help to stimulate residents, so improving their self-esteem and sense of well-being.

The care of staff went beyond and above what was expected of them. The support for my dad and family was fantastic. Especially over the final fortnight before my father passed away. We will always be very grateful.

The Limes is a calm, friendly place to visit with wonderful staff who love and respect their clients.
They do their utmost to move clients forward to live independently. This is done in a very patient, understanding way over time. Some people need more time than others. There is no time limit to the
staff's kindness and support.

My mother lived for nearly three years in Cedar Lodge. At all times she was treated with great respect and dignity. The management of the care home and their end of life care are second to none. Staff kept me constantly informed of any concerns. They were unfailingly welcoming when I visited. When my
mother reached the end of her life the home gave me accommodation and meals so I was able to be with my mother throughout the final two weeks. I cannot praise them highly enough. I visited 17 care homes before choosing this one and I have never regretted my decision. They even invited us to use the home for her funeral which we gratefully accepted.

Have visited my friend on a number of occasions and have always been impressed by the warm and friendly environment provided by this home.
The staff are welcoming and friendly and are always willing to listen and problem solve when necessary.
It also provides a good standard of cleanliness and my
friend always looks forward to mealtimes! The residents are given regular outings and in-home entertainment is regularly provided. Very good.

I have visited an elderly friend for the past 28months, usually calling in at least once or twice a week. During that time I have always found Cedar Lodge staff to be welcoming, very helpful, very caring to the residents and knowledgeable about them as individuals.
The residents are always treated
with dignity and thoughtfulness and staff are aware of other specific needs, like/dislikes etc...
Over recent days whilst my friend was dying, the staff showed great kindness and consideration to me and real love towards my friend, making sure she was never left alone and ensuring her comfort and well being to the very best of their ability, reading to her and hoping she will hear and feel comfortable.

Very good personal care during night and day. Plenty of staff on hand. Well managed and organised, with ample recreational activities. An ideal size - large enough to be interesting and varied but not cavernous and overlarge. I was very happy in the knowledge that my brother was cared for personally
with staff that took an interest. I visited regularly so can confidently say that this is a care home where the residents are valued. Friendly staff and nice outside area.

My thanks to all staff who have given my mother such loving care over the last 7 years of her life, right to the end of her life. Cedar Lodge provides a comfortable home with lots of activities for those who want them, and my mother who had dementia was happy there. All the staff care for the residents
and work as a great team always helpful and friendly, I will miss them as well as my mother.

The home has a happy atmosphere and is spotlessly clean. It's a lovely house with interesting decorations. Resident are free to roam over most of the house, while being kept safe and secure inside the house. There are several lounges to sit in. It's like being part of a big family. Although the staff
have different roles, they all work together and treat both residents and visitors with kindness, patience, courtesy and respect. Visitors are allowed at any time and are invited to join the residents for meals and activities. It's a homely place and I felt blessed to be a part of the family while my father stayed there and even after he died.

My stepmother has been a resident at Cedar Lodge for 4 years. She has always been treated in a kindly dignified way. Staff have treated her like family. Her room is lovely and its always clean and tidy. The meals are 5 star. The activities plenty and imaginative. Excellent value for money. Manager kind
and caring and always have time for you if any questions or worries. Very satisfied.

My mum moved in last August and it was a hard experience for everyone. Cedar Lodge management and staff have been fantastic and she now calls it home and wants to return. The staff are kind and friendly, and nothing is too much to ask.
If I am worried they will listen, they have regular resident/relative
meetings where we are invited to attend, along with the manager and other staff to discuss all aspects of how the home is run and how our loved ones are cared for. Most importantly, I feel mum is safe, happy and cared for - more than I hoped for. I feel very lucky to have found Cedar Lodge for her.

The care centre is well run and the staff work hard to ensure the residents are well looked after. My mother talks about staying in a hotel which would indicate a level of satisfaction that is pleasing for her and offers confidence of the level of care attained. Cleaning of the facility is continuous
which is a necessary requirement to ensure high levels of general wellness in the already challenged environment.

Matthew

Matthew Parrish

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2007

Matthew joined Notaro Care Homes in 2007 as Registered Manager for Cedar Lodge Dementia Residential Home, where he continues to work today. Matthew’s career in care started long before as a care assistant, back in 1988. His love and passion for working with individuals living with Dementia drove his career and he quickly climbed the ladder to become a very successful and respected Manager.


Matthew says his reason for working in care is to be able to enhance people’s lifestyle through person-centered care and enabling residents to live as independently as possible. Working with others to create an inclusive living and work environment.


In his spare time, Matthew enjoys participating in many sports, cooking for his family and exploring local history and travel.


In Matthew's recent CQC inspection it was noted by the inspector ‘There is an excellent registered manager employed at the home who was clearly passionate about providing a high quality, individualised service’.
