My mother has been in Hungerford House for nearly two years, and I am very pleased with the level of care she has. In these strange pandemic times, I have been confident she is being talked care of, and any problems, they contact me immediately. The care staff are very friendly. I particularly like
the way they take pictures and put them on Facebook so I can share them with my relatives all over the world. Keep up the good work.

Generally speaking, my family and I are very satisfied with the way my wife is being cared for. At one time, there was some confusion regarding the medication my wife was receiving, my son spoke to the manager regarding this, which was resolved to our satisfaction.

Hungerford House has recently undergone some extensive refurbishment, which has made it feel a much brighter and welcoming environment. The house is always clean in all areas. The staff are warm and friendly and treat my mother-in-law with kindness and dignity. My mother-in-law feels very safe and secure
as well as well looked after in the home, which is very important to her family, who live a distance away.

I feel the rooms are small, the care is good and meals satisfactory. Think staff are under a lot of pressure and could do with more to ease the pressure. Mum seems content, although she doesn't sometimes like asking for anything. Always has a shopping list; eg tissues, fruit, shower/bath wash and toothpaste,
fell these should be supplied. In all, I feel the home is run to the best of its ability with the number of staff available.

Mum is very happy here. The staff are very friendly and look after the residents really well and the care has been excellent during lockdown with update Skype calls and now being able to visit, which is wonderful. The staff have done an excellent job keeping them safe and entertained in such difficult
times. Hungerford House has a lovely atmosphere whenever we visit. Good to know Mum is being cared for so well. Thank you.

My brother and I were very impressed with this care home on our introductory visit to find a placement for our 90-yeard-old mother who had a further stroke and suffers from dementia. In the short time, my mother has been there, I have been really impressed with all aspects of the care home, in particular,
the friendly, professional staff; good organisation, cleanliness, cheerful decor, but most of all the relaxed atmosphere of the home.

The staff are friendly, caring and professional. The receptionist is very personable and gives a good impression. Always lots of choice of foods and residents aren't rushed. Carers are flexible with routines when I am visiting to accommodate me. They are very open and happy to talk about my mum and
how she is. Regular doctors visits to the home.

My husband attends daycare once a week. He was a little reluctant at first but has settled in happily. He finds the atmosphere very friendly and welcoming and is very contented to attend. We are fortunate to have such facilities nearby.

I attend the day centre usually on Thursdays; it is a very happy day.
The staff and volunteers are so very kind and helpful. They are always cheerful too.
They turn every special time, e.g. Christmas, Birthday etc into very special occasions. I also enjoy the monthly services of Holy Communion.

Hungerford House staff are friendly, sociable and very approachable. I feel my mum is always treated with care and dignity.
Staff are always available to discuss mums care and any issues are dealt with quickly. The home has an excellent relationship with the local GP surgery and medical issues are
kept on top of due to this. I am very happy with my mum's care, and she is too.

Having to trust someone to look after a loved one brings much soul searching and is not a decision taken lightly, but from our first visit to Hungerford House, a lot of my concerns disappeared. The rooms are bright, colourful and clean, the staff made us very welcome and spent time explaining what a
typical day would involve and what was on offer to occupy the time. Having said that I must admit the first time I left my wife in their care was not without a feeling of guilt but on the days that she has been to the day centre she has always been happy and well cared for and I now leave her content in my mind that she will be looked after. Recently a medical professional visited our home and when told that we were now using Hungerford House she remarked, we could not have made a better choice as they are very well thought of, which added to my belief that I had chosen well.

I am very pleased and satisfied with my husband's care. Whenever I visit everything is calm and very caring, especially mealtimes. I bring my lunch sometimes as it suits my journey by public transport and I am always made welcome looked after. I particularly like the way the nursing home is set up in
small units with a mix of ability so those needing the most care are catered for. Lovely staff and person in charge.

We are so pleased with the way Dad has settled into Hungerford House. Dad has said on numerous occasions that he likes it here and says "all is good." The staff are very accommodating and always willing to help. It is comforting to know that Dad is in a safe and caring environment which gives us peace
of mind.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for Hungerford House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Hungerford House is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.633 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hungerford House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
