Staff were very friendly, caring and approachable. Dad was happy at Hungerford House although he struggled with some of the habits of some of the other residents. His room was a bit small, however, the decoration of some of the communal areas was inspiring and inviting.

The staff and management are always polite, welcoming and helpful. I have noticed them being very kind and patient with the residents. My mother is very happy there. When I raise an issue it is always dealt with quickly. Communication is good and I always feel welcome when I visit and am invited to
feel part of the community. I like the beach corner and often stop to chat with the receptionist on my way in or out. Hungerford House has a calm and pleasant atmosphere and I feel relieved that my mother has a place there as I am confident she is being looked after properly.

Mum has been at Hungerford House for a month. She seems happy and settled and says it is like a hotel and being on holiday. Mum says the staff are lovely and the food is good. I think having different and brightly coloured areas gives the home a nice feel. It is all on one level and Mum is free to wander
or go outside into the garden. I have found the staff friendly and quick to respond to questions or queries. Her room is small but bright with a pleasant outlook over the garden.

Mum stayed for 3 nights , it was her first time in respite care, she has dementia and gets confused in different surroundings. I was very apprehensive when I went to pick her up, as I didn't know whether she would be upset or happy !! To my amazement, she was smiling and really happy, you don't know
how that made me feel !! Thank you so much for looking after my precious mum and making her stay really enjoyable, she actually said that she enjoyed her stay and would gladly go back again !! And she also remembered that she had been there for at least 3 hours after coming home, that was amazing to me !!!! The staff were helpful and friendly and it was because of the staff that mum had such a wonderful stay. I would definitely recommend this care home and mum will be staying there again . Thank you all X

My review is relating to my mother who has recently been taken into this home to be cared for. The staff were very welcoming and showed us around the home and gardens etc, also very attentive towards my mother and made her feel very much at home.
Everyone was so friendly and spent a lot of time with
my mother. Nothing was too much trouble. The home itself was very clean and tidy, and my mother enjoyed her meals and all the cups of teas served throughout the day. Well done to all the staff there.

My mother has recently been displaying challenging behaviour (fingers crossed seem to have settled down) and as next of kin I am always contacted. I have been worried and upset that my mother would be becoming too difficult for the carers. Having voiced my fears to a few carers they couldn't have been
more lovely to me and about my mum. They really were caring and compassionate to us both and I am very grateful that in such a busy role they find time for relatives too.

Excellent atmosphere created by wonderful staff giving all residents freedom to be themselves while being responsive to them and ensuring their well-being and security. If my wife and I ever need this care for ourselves, then we would both be very happy with the prospect of spending our last years in
this home.

My mother came to Hungerford House in August 2015 when her dementia had progressed to the extent that she needed more specialist care. Sadly she passed away at the end of April 2016. We are so grateful to all the staff for the amazing care she received while she was at Hungerford House. The family
were always welcome to visit (including the dog!) and whenever we did Mum was always clean, well dressed and cared for. Your staff are so skilful at maintaining such high standards of cleanliness, a consistent good humour and creating an overall air of calm in what must occasionally be quite trying circumstances. The sensitive management of Mum's last days were very much appreciated and we were delighted that two of your staff were able to attend the funeral. Thank you all so much - you are very special people.

I go to daycare twice a week. I really enjoy going and I try to join in all activities. The staff and team are fantastic. They respect our views and they deal with our needs politely, caring and I trust them. Thank you for all that's done for me and my friends. I would be lost without this service.

As a family we chose Hungerford House as a care home for mum as it was close to home and friends and because of the financial relationship it holds with the council. We have found the staff and management very approachable. Communications have been good. Mum is incontinent and I am aware of the constant
effort the staff need to take to keep mum and her room clean.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.300)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.300) out of 10 for Hungerford House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Hungerford House is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.633 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hungerford House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
