My Aunt came to The Priory for respite care and decided to make The Priory her new home. We visit her on a regular basis and we all are pleased with the high standard of service and care being provided by the team at The Priory.

My mother came to the Priory for respite care and after a few weeks decided to make Priory her new home. She enjoys being with other residents and participating in activities. My mother always praises the staff at the Priory especially the chef as she seems to be enjoying freshly cooked meals.

Last evening I had the pleasure of joining my mum, other residents and their families, and staff at their Christmas Carol Party. We joined in with members of the choir singing Christmas carols. Heard some meaningful readings telling the story of Christmas. This was followed by a vast home-cooked buffet
and Christmas cake. The manager and her team worked incredibly hard to make it a truly festive evening. A wonderful evening was had by everyone.

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thank you so much for the review. I am so glad you enjoyed the evening - it is one of my favourites. The Priory is just perfect for Christmas. Thanks again.

My mother has lived at The Priory for the last two years having transferred from another home in the county. She settled well and it soon became obvious to our family that she was much happier, recognising very quickly that she was much safer here. The management and staff are very kind, caring and
friendly. My husband and I live some distance away but we are always welcomed when we visit and also invited to join in with lunches out, afternoon teas etc. Mum enjoys most of the weekly activities, particularly the musician visits and she enjoys the visits by the hairdresser. We are very grateful for all the care and attention that The Priory provides for our Mum. Thank you!

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thanks - always lovely to see you both when you visit. And now Mum is the proud holder of The Priory Ten Pin Bowling Challenge Cup. A wonderful victory by just 1 point. I have printed some photos for you of the winning lady.

My mum has been a resident for fifteen months, it was a difficult time in her life and a huge decision to go into care. I cannot thank all the staff enough for helping us manage the transition in a considered and patient way. My mum is very happy there, she doesn't want to be anywhere else. She feels
safe, has fun, has company and knows that the staff are there if ever she needs them. From our perspective, we implicitly trust the staff to have Mum's best interests at heart, to contact us should there be any concerns and to treat Mum as an individual and with respect. The Priory is an extension of the family, for which we are grateful.

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thank you, Denise. Mum did take a few weeks to settle as joining The Priory was, as you say, a major change for her. After getting her bearings, she has become a real character in the home, so vibrant, happy and involved. She loves being outdoors in the summer so, hopefully, the sun will soon shine on us all.

A lovely clean, warm and comfortable home from home. Staff and management are friendly, kind and caring. This has helped Mum, who has dementia, settle well into her new home. Home-cooked food always looks and smells appetising. Regular visits by hairdresser and chiropodist make life easier for everyone.
Although lockdown was a difficult time, it was handled as reasonably and sensitively as could be expected within Government guidelines.

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thank you for your kind comments. Covid seems so long ago when you mention it, but it was a difficult time, so thank you for your words on how we handled that horrible time.

Having both parents at The Priory since January/February 2022, they both are happy and received fantastic care from the staff. We are always updated on any issues with my parents and fully trust the staff there to make the right calls. Super happy with The Priory and its team.

The Priory is a well-run, happy care home. My mother has lived in an apartment there for twelve years and has been very happy and well cared for. Many of the staff have been there since my mother moved into the home. The care home provides good varied food, weekly activities and regular outings.

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thank you. I did not realise twelve years and what a lot has happened. Your mum is a real character in the home and loves the company and the activities. Will she retain the tenpin bowling cup next week? Fingers crossed.

My mum has been at The Priory care home for nearly ten years. The care she receives is unbelievable! The staff are a wonderful team who absolutely adore my mum. I live quite a distance away but when I come every two weeks I am always greeted with a happy smile from the staff and a cup of tea. Mum is
in the latter stages of dementia but she always looks clean and has lovely clothes on and jewellery.

Reply from Mark Allworth, Director at The Priory

Thank you, Sally. Your mum has been with us a long time and she is a joy to care for - always a smile and a laugh.

Our experience of The Priory has been very positive, if you're looking for a small care home c20 residents I'd have no hesitation in recommending them - very caring, empathetic and responsive to each individual's needs with plenty of activities.

My father has been a resident for 18 months, during which time there has been a deterioration in his mental and physical health. Despite his increasing needs, the team has risen to the challenge without complaint. He is genuinely cared for, both in practical terms and also emotionally. The ethos is
very much family-orientated, and relatives are encouraged to attend events and activities and provide feedback on the care provided. There is a useful monthly general newsletter, but the staff are approachable at any time for updates on individual residents.
The skills and attitudes of the staff and management are outstanding, but it should be noted that the food is well received, the rooms warm and kept clean.
In summary, my experience is of a caring, well-run homely home, and I am very appreciative of all that they do for my father.

Our aunt came to live at The Priory 3-years ago when her health started failing.
She was a very private lady, but young at heart and loved the banter and interaction with the team who looked after her.
She enjoyed the regular singalongs and took great care of her appearance using the weekly in-house
visiting hairdresser. Her clothes were laundered and ironed in house with the same amount of care as was afforded to her.
In the last year, she was displaying signs of dementia, but she spoke of "the luxury and good food at this hotel". It was very reassuring to hear this as visits were very restricted during the lockdown period.
A fabulous home.

When it was time to help our Aunt relocate to a care home, she told us that she wanted to go somewhere classy. I and my sister initially moved her to a care home, run by a big name in the industry, which we thought would fit that description. We soon felt the need to review that original placement and
were very fortunate to have secured a place for her at The Priory, which she soon referred to as home. We are very thankful to the whole team at The Priory for the wonderful care, regular activities and food she enjoyed during her stay. She particularly likes the regular supply of tea, biscuits and cake..! Sadly our aunt passed away at The Priory earlier this year, but with great dignity, comfort and support to the end. The knowledge that our aunt was well cared for was also a great comfort to us too. In conclusion, we are firm in the view that the life of our aunt was both extended and enhanced by her years at The Priory and the excellent care provided by the whole team.

We can hardly believe how lucky we were to find The Priory for Dad. My brother said he didn't think it was possible anyone would spoil Dad as Mum did, but The Priory really did. We didn't think Dad would ever want to move to a care home, but he'd become lonely at home on his own, went for a cup of tea
one afternoon and could hardly wait to return as a resident. As soon as he arrived, you could see the relief on his face: he was 'home', he stopped worrying, everything was taken care of, no one fussed him if he wanted to join an activity he could, but if not, there were always quiet, sunny spaces where he could read his paper, watch the world go by, but still be part of the 'family. It changed the quality of Dad's life and ours too. My young grandson loved visiting his 'GeeGee' in The Priory and always had a huge welcome from the staff, as we all did. On Dad's birthday, his old friends joined him for a birthday tea and the home's famous cakes. We couldn't have asked for more.

My mother was a resident at The Priory for five and a half years, and in that time, we thought she received the best care we could hope for. The staff were all very caring, and nothing was too much trouble.

Our friend in The Priory care home is nearly 100-years-old. At times, she can be quite difficult, but we've been very pleased with how happy that she is in The Priory. The staff are very friendly, caring and efficient. The food is first class. The accommodation is clean and very comfortable.
In short,
The Priory is perfect in every way.

Following the death of our Mum in 2006 Dad looked after himself in their house but by 2016, his knees failing and after several falls, it was clear that this couldn't continue. His GP recommended The Priory for a 'two-week respite'.... which lasted almost five years! Overcoming his pride, natural to
us all, Dad recognised ultimately and accepted that he was now in a so much safer and better place, and best of all after living alone had wonderful company from fellow residents and the simply wonderful and loving owners/management/carers/staff at the Priory.
Would I recommend The Priory - yes without any doubt? It is in a lovely building on a quiet road, but it is what's within that is so much more. The rapport, friendship, humour and love between the residents and staff (most of whom are long-term) is palpable, and for us (living four hours away) that was so important. Plus of course the warm welcome we always got, and tea and biscuits.
A loving house to spend the evening of one's years.

The care for residents at The Priory is very good. The staff make each person feel special, treating them like family members. The small scale of the home means that care is very personalised, with full freedom of choice for activities and meals - residents can ask for something completely different
to the menu plan if they want to and this can almost always be accommodated as the meals are freshly prepared on the premises to a high standard.
In normal times, there is a varied entertainment programme, with different musicians each week and other artistic activity organised by a dedicated member of staff, but also trips out to local places of interest and even 10-Pin Bowling! During the lockdown, they quickly purchased an iPad so that residents could enjoy video calls with relatives and friends. They also had different themed activities each week.
The manager always has time to answer any questions, and during the lockdown, there were weekly updates from the owners.

My father has been a resident at The Priory for nearly 5 years. As a family, we have been more than happy with the standard of care and the attitude of all the staff.
Our father had his 100th birthday at the beginning of lockdown, we had to cancel his party and none of us was able to be with him, but
the staff made sure that we could all skype him and that he had a memorable day. The staff have gone to great efforts to keep the residents entertained during lockdown while they weren't able to have visitors. The staff always address the residents respectfully and also affectionately. My father regularly tells us how happy he is and that he feels well cared for.
Knowing that he is safe at The Priory over this difficult time has been a great help.

Where does one start? The care that is received by the residents is wonderful. The staff are so dedicated, caring and work so hard. The residents' needs are fully met and so nice to have staff who have been there for several years and not bank staff as a lot of homes have most of the time.
Activities
are amazing and have themes every week following the theme through each day with something different.
The Priory is immaculate and the food freshly cooked with a choice. Cakes etc all homemade and very inviting. Nice to see such a variety of lovely food including foods from other countries. All in all, The Priory is a one-off home and the residents could not be looked after better anywhere else. During COVID and lockdown, everything has been put into place and so much support to the residents who have been able to see their families. Can’t thank them enough.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.498)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.498) out of 10 for The Priory is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.798 for The Priory is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.798

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Priory is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
