The Orchards Residential Home is located a short walk from the village of Wroughton and provides a range of care services customised to the needs of each individual. These include: residential care, day care, dementia care and respite care.

The welcoming home is made up of en-suite bedrooms to provide residents with the privacy they desire. The communal areas of the home stand out, with a sun room, as well as three additional spacious and peaceful lounges. A well-maintained garden with a charming allotment area is available for residents to tend to if they wish.

The homes' close proximity to the town makes it easy for residents to take trips to the Old Town Gardens with members of staff. There is also a varied timetable of daily activities including: film afternoons, armchair basketball and aromatherapy sessions to help stimulate the mind.

My mother has settled in very well and seems happy. The home is clean, bright and welcoming. The staff are professional, caring and very friendly. Nothing seems too much trouble. Excellent experience. Would recommend.

The staff here are excellent. Mum's room is always clean and she is always really well-fed and taken care of. Mum is very happy at The Orchards Residential Home.

The staff at The Orchards Residential Home are always welcoming and jolly. The carer who fed my sister her lunch on the day of our visit was excellent.
One minor criticism is that whilst I found my sister's room and bed to be crisp and clean, the wall at the side of her bed had some very suspect marks
on and is in need of a good clean/repaint!

I always had reservations about care homes but after several falls, usually necessitating hospital. So I left it to my daughter to find a suitable home near her. She took me to visit several but some were so clinical and soulless. This one has shown dedication to care for awkward types and it suits
me.

My mother had severe dementia when she moved into The Orchards Residential Home and was there for nine years. I will always be very grateful for the love and care they showed her and our family. Before Covid, I visited several times a week, it was always such a calm, warm and welcoming environment.

I found the staff welcoming to clients and relatives. My cousin received appropriate care delivered with loving-kindness and professional competence. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone else. The manager creates a very pleasant atmosphere, and her staff seem to be a valued

Mum went into this home during lockdown so we couldn't visit to view it before. Though the carers were nice, management seemed sadly lacking. Clothes were lost, communication was poor, mum lost weight and always looked dirty and unkempt. The tap in her room was not fixed for weeks, the decor in the
home was drab and uninviting. The manager was uninterested and didn't apologise for any of the many problems we had. I was relieved when we made the decision to move her elsewhere.

Issues that were raised by yourself before your mum left the home in August 2021 (admitted in February 2021)
*Issues with sink – resident continuously flooding her room. Unable to get plumber in to change taps due to Gov.uk restrictions in place.
*Room had been decorated prior to resident moving in. Walls left blank for family to bring in photos/pictures etc.
*Family unable to walk around the home/communal/area due to Gov.uk restriction in place.
We have received an email from the daughter looking into and regarding concerns raised in July 2021 before Mum went into hospital, and was then moved to a specialist unit. These issues are all dealt with and we have evidence to support that.

A truly remarkable home. The moment I stepped foot into this home I felt welcome, safe and in a place that truly resembled being home. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone who wants to ensure their loved ones are well looked after, loved and most of all, happy. Such a beautiful place.

Mum moved into The Orchards in January 2022. Unfortunately, after a week, Covid meant that the residents had to isolate. A fortnight later, Mum needed hospital treatment for two weeks. A difficult start for her. She has now been back at The Orchards for three weeks. During this time, the staff have
treated Mum with caring compassion. They have encouraged her to take part in the community activities but always in a respectful way. The Orchards is well run and has a happy, positive atmosphere. There have been many occasions when I have needed to ring the home and my phone calls have been welcomed and actioned, and I have been encouraged to always ring if I have a concern.

The staff are very caring and friendly. I feel like residents are well looked after here. They have lots of activities, days out and themed days in the home. Very clean environment and pleasant to walk around. Feels like a home from home.

Very impressed by the standard of care my mum receives at The Orchards. She is always clean, well presented and in a happy mood. The care home staff are amazing, helpful, friendly and provide a great service. There are loads of events, all usually captured on their Facebook page, for us to see, which

My 95-year-old mother, a longtime but slow dementia sufferer, moved into the care of The Orchards 18 months ago. She was always resistant about moving into care, and we kept her in relatively independent living as long as possible. However, 7-weeks in the hospital during Covid with no visitors or mental
stimulation caused a rapid decline, physically and mentally, and it was clear that full-time care was required. We have always been impressed by the care and affection from the staff, and despite minor issues, such as clothing going astray, the overall care has been outstanding. The nutrition and food provided have made a very positive change to her physically, and whilst she is almost lost to us mentally, we can see that a great deal of effort is made to keep her stimulated and included in the many social activities, even if she is unable to take part. Her condition makes it very difficult for anyone to care for her, but the Orchards are wonderful, giving us peace of mind that she is safe and cared for.

Dad being almost blind and needing help with everything.
Not enough staff - always in a rush - not able to help with individual needs.
Dignity - no pants worn in the first 5 weeks.
Activities - not enough - boredom and helplessness sets in when left alone for hours - no individual needs catered

I think the Orchards and all the staff team work hard for the residents. Their activities are so imaginative - all the residents are encouraged to join in but are given space if they wish. Watching it all on Facebook is wonderful for families and friends. Through the very difficult months, all the staff

My mother has been a resident of The Orchards since late November 2020 so still very early days. However, I have had a number of contacts with the staff and have found them all to be very professional, helpful and friendly. My mother has settled in very quickly and speaks very highly of everyone and
constantly says how lovely the food is and how comfortable the rooms are. So far, The Orchard is living up to the high expectations we had for the home.

Julie Beale

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2018

Julie originally trained as a nurse in Surrey before moving back to Swindon in 1987 after meeting her husband. She has over 30 years of nursing experience with the past 20 years in care homes as a nurse, a clinical lead, deputy manager and manager. She has numerous qualifications including RN2, Mentor - Northampton University, NVQ Assessor and Leadership and Management Level 5. Her passion is Elderly Care - especially
Dementia and End of Life care. Julie has a very open and honest approach and puts our residents first at all times giving compassion not only to our residents, but to their families as well.
She has an 'open door policy' and is a firm believer that the Orchards is our residents' home.
In her free time, she loves to spend time with family and friends, walk her dogs and read.
