Seahorses Care Home, in Chiseldon, Wiltshire, offers a homely environment in which elderly people with dementia can feel live in a tranquil and welcoming home.

There is a Wellbeing Team rather than a care team, their focus being on the residents wellbeing not just their immediate care needs. Care is delivered using an holistic approach ensuring that dignity is at the heart of all they do. The Wellbeing Team use the word help, rather than assist. Words like refused or challenging behaviour are not used, instead they say that they didn't want to or they are upset or angry. This ensures that this is how people would want their loved ones to be treated and they think that their residents deserve nothing less. This is sometimes called "The Mum Test", if it was your mum what would you want for them. This Mum Test is the overarching ethos that guides the team to deliver truly person-centred care.

Family and friends of the residents are welcomed and involved in care planning ensuring that they truly understand the person as an individual.

My mother was resident at Seahorses for approximately two years. We were placed here by the hospital, as homes in Swindon were full. Any doubts I had about the home's suitability were quickly allayed. Mum soon settled into Seahorses and enjoyed the company of other residents, she especially loved the
meals, which were excellent. Unfortunately, Mum caught Covid, but under staff care she pulled through. Mum's needs changed and she moved upstairs to a lovely room overlooking trees. The bright, warm and quiet accommodation was just right for her and family visiting at any time of the day always found her well, clean and with food and drink adapted to her needs. This week she was put on end-of-life care and I was grateful to the staff, who continued to show her care and deep affection. Thank you Seahorses for supporting Mum at the end of her long and fulfilling life.

Seahorses was just the care home environment we were seeking; relatively small scale, friendly, personable family atmosphere. Every time we visited Seahorses the staff were so welcoming, friendly and reassuring. My mother-in-law was very much at home in the relaxed and caring environment created by
the wonderful team.

Very pleased with the care my Mum has received from day one. The home is small in comparison to some of the others we viewed but the service is more personal. The staff all know my Mum, they know her personality, what she likes and what she doesn’t. The staff are also fantastic with us (the family)
always very friendly and communication is excellent. Would highly recommend it.

My parents are both residents at Sea Horses Care Home and have been for the past two years. They share a ground floor room with French windows and en-suite facilities which works very well for them. Whenever we visit we find the whole home including their room neat and tidy. Mum and Dad are happy and
settled there and enjoy taking their meals in the conservatory dining area. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and they do a great job caring for my parents. Thanks everyone!

My wife went for respite, having cared for her for three years. But after her stay, we were so pleased how she had settled so applied for full care and have never looked back.

Visit every week. The staff go above caring for the residents. I can only congratulate them on how they cope with such vulnerable people. Would recommend Seahorses highly - which I do to friends that are looking for a care home.

Another year has gone by and I still can't believe how great Seahorses Care Home is. My mother has been here for just over two years now and she loves it. The staff are amazing and nothing is too much for them to do in caring for Mum. She likes the attention she gets from everyone, it make her feel
special. She enjoys the food, me too! It's all cooked fresh and if she doesn't fancy it, they always offer her something else. I enjoy visiting her and staying for lunch once a week. I see other residents too and have got to know everyone's names so I always have a word with them too. Everyone is always happy to see me. I can't recommend Seahorses enough, it's a really well-run home where everything comes first for the residents.

My mother-in-law has been a resident for just over 2 years and she loves it! Staff are fantastic and friendly, we have eaten there on special occasions. The food is excellent, they often make different meals if residents don't like what's on the menu, can't fault effort given to residents and families.
I work in the NHS and often recommend patients who may need this kind of care, first-rate.

A great choice for a care home for a loved one. My mother has been a resident here for just over 2 years and she loves being here, the staff are very kind and caring and the support they gave to my mum and us when she first went to live there was outstanding. Nothing is too much for them to help and
they go above and beyond with their care, even to the extent of cooking her something different if she doesn’t like what is on the menu! The family is treated with kindness and respect and my mum is always having a laugh with the staff! I always recommend Seahorses Care Home to anyone I know who is thinking about making the difficult decision to put a loved one into care. I can’t praise them enough for what they do for my mum and her family.

Hello, after a stay in hospital, I needed a week in respite. Seahorses Care Hojme could not have been more helpful and reassuring from the minute they answered my call. The owners and every single member of staff here were wonderful, just what I need after a rather traumatic few weeks. They built me
up with their regular bedside visits, regular and nutritional food 3 times a day. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. They were all morale boosting, happy and hard working people, enthusiastic at all times. I heard and witnessed them dealing with others within Seahorses and can honestly say I would love if needed my 88 years old mother to be accommodated here. I would sleep easy knowing that she would be well looked after. When I left I had improved immensely, I believe this was down to my lovely light room and the attention I received at Seahorses.

The family are so grateful for the level of care and professionalism shown towards our mum. Such a lovely ‘home from home’, with staff that feel like family and anticipate every need. Home-cooked food that Mum wanted to eat and just the right level of support at every part of the dementia journey.
We
feel lucky to have become mum's‘ children’ again, all the care worries taken away.

My husband has been at Seahorses since 25th November 2021. During this time, I have witnessed a very caring staff who respect the resident's variety that dementia reflects. They are welcoming to family when visiting.

My father has been at Seahorses since mid-November, just over 4-weeks, and I feel he is being well looked after. The care staff are really good with my dad, and all seem genuinely concerned for his welfare.

Ever since my mother-in-law stayed, we've been made to feel like family. The staff and care are exceptional, and every resident is treated individually according to their needs. When you walk through the door, it feels like home, and would highly recommend it to anyone needing care for dementia. We've
enjoyed every visit and will enjoy many more knowing our mum is safe, secure and being well cared for.

I cannot speak highly enough of the care that my mum receives at Seahorses, and the staff are superb with her. My mum is always clean and tidy, her hair done, and with her jewellery on, and her room is immaculate. Whenever we visit, we are made to feel really welcome and are always offered a cup of
tea. I love visiting Mum at Seahorses and honestly feel that I’m visiting her at home (her home), and she loves the staff there. It was really hard for us as a family to put Mum into care, but she has settled in so well, and she is really happy, and this is because the staff treat her like one of their own family. The staff at Seahorses have also been fantastic with my dad when he visits, and he stays for lunch with Mum, which is a huge comfort for us as we know he is also eating well. He loves visiting and often tells us he’s off to his favourite restaurant! The food is outstanding, nutritious and varied, and the residents are made to feel like they are in a restaurant.

Overall, I couldn’t be happier that my nan is at Seahorses Care Home. She has settled in so well and so quickly too, which is completely due to the staff at the care home, who made her feel welcome and treated her like one of their family members from the offset. Seahorses treat every person in their
care as an individual and love to get to know them and what they enjoy. There is not a one size fits all approach here.

The food at the care home is outstanding and is like a restaurant; the staff go above and beyond to deliver high quality and highly nutritious food for all.

It was such a hard process moving Nan into a care home. The whole family felt the huge void it left as she is such a larger than life character. Deep down, we knew for her well-being and safety it was the right thing to do.
Seahorses have been a Godsend to us all as a family, and we can rest easy knowing she is happy, safe and clean, as well as us gaining support and an extended family there.

My wife was put into care more suddenly than expected. Initially, we were a little unsure we had selected the right home for her. However, I quickly realised she was being given the very best care by a dedicated team of exceptionally good and kind carers. Both of our children totally agree with my opinion.

Locked down immediately upon news of the pandemic to keep residents and staff safe. My friend was always clean and happy when we visited, including those times we simply dropped in without prior notice. My friend adores the staff and is comfortable, safe and "at home". The enclosed garden is lovely.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.679)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.679) out of 10 for Seahorses Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.779 for Seahorses Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (85 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 104 Ratings = 4.779

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Seahorses Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
