My mother-in-law was very well looked after at the home by the staff and management who kept her safe, warm and well fed. I would recommend anyone to visit and see for themselves how the residents are cared for. There are also visits from occupational therapists and other medical health people.

The

staff try to include all residents to participate in certain activities but only if they want to. The rooms are clean and tidy and have the residents own personal belongings in them. Clothes are laundered each week but ensure you name all clothes. Plenty of wardrobe space and drawers for clothes etc.

Food is very good and plenty of it and birthdays are celebrated with special cakes.

My father has been a resident for almost 12 months now, initially there following surgery at hospital. This was to be short stay care while he was assessed for returning back to us. He was concerned at not being able to return back to live with us but soon settled in and when his assessment period was
over it was clear to the whole family that he needed around the clock care, the sort of care that he was receiving and enjoying where he was. The staff have been brilliant with him and I can't say enough good things about the home. He has made friends, always happy and has never complained about anything This care home has provided a happy environment that he has taken to. EXCELLENT!

My mother enjoys the care, activities and wide range of food on offer at Bablake House. I visited her recently and was impressed by the ease of parking and facilities, as well as how hassle free moving around the house is for my mother. I have noticed how her mood has changed since she has lived at
Bablake House with her confidence and happiness improving, and I too was impressed by how she is looked after by the kind and attentive staff. It is a joy to see how happy she is and how well she is being cared for.

My aunt has been at Bablake house for three years now and it is the happiest I have known her to be since the death of my uncle. My mum, her twin, is also there and I think this helps both of them. In my aunt's own words "what is there not to like" sums things up nicely.

My aunt has been a resident for a couple of months now and since arriving her confidence and mood have improved a great deal. I put this down to the friendly manner of the staff and volunteers. Residents are treated with respect and the team always cheerful and kind.

My mother is well cared for at this residential home. The staff are cheerful, attentive and very caring. Our family is very happy that my mother is in such a pleasant happy environment with good catering facilities and a beautiful garden to take in the sunshine.
Daily activities are always arranged
at Bablake House and my mother always enjoys taking part and she looks forward to a pleasant distraction.

My mum was sent to Bablake House for a six-week stay after leaving hospital. She was very worried about going as she had lost all her confidence after having a fall. I met my mum there as she arrived by ambulance and my first impression was how nice the girl who did her care plan with her was putting
mum at ease . Mum ended up staying nine weeks by which time she was walking with her frame and was happy and contented and was a very different person to the one who first went there. The staff are so helpful and friendly not just to mum but to us as a family too and we never had to worry when we couldn't visit or when we went home as we knew she was so well looked after. The staff work so hard to meet the needs of the residents and we couldn't have wished for a nicer place for mum to stay.

My 96 year old Aunt chose to move to Bablake House in January 2014 when it had become clear that she was struggling to continue to live in sheltered accommodation. We looked at a number of homes in the area, including a home where my father had happily lived in previous years, but my Aunt chose Bablake
House and has been happy there ever since. She secured a spacious room which was freshly decorated and we were able to bring a number of her favourite things to help her feel quickly at home. Staff are always friendly and they have been good at recognising her occasional additional needs. The house has many communal areas so when visiting it is always possible to find a quiet spot to chat. My Aunt tells me the food is good and tasty...even if she often cannot remember what she has had! Overall, I believe that Bablake House was a good choice and am happy to provide this favourable review.

My Mom went there in 2011 for respite care, she ended up there for over 3 years. She called it home. Mom did enjoy the events that were put on for residents, started with bingo, but later lots more things went on. Baking, craft classes as well as games in the lounge and Wednesday afternoon exercise
class. There were odd problems but staff would listen and try and resolve things. After a stay in hospital in October 2013, she came out very poorly on end of life care, but with her determination and the dedication of the staff she pulled through and she was with us for an extra 8 months. The staff treated her with dignity and were a great support to her family too. Could not have asked for better care at the end of her life.

My review relates to the short term residence of my friend, who spent 6 weeks in residence for short term care after a stay in hospital. Whilst not the easiest of guests to work with, the staff always treated him with dignity and respect and he was well looked after. Bablake house is an interesting
facility and felt quite homely. He went in very unhappy he was not able to go home, to not wanting to leave at the end of his stay. Says it all really. Small issues during his stay amounted to his washing going missing and running out of clean clothes, only to reappear days later (we should have labelled his clothes better?). This sorted itself during his stay. Also the TV reception in his room was problematic, with days where no signal was available, but the room next door was fine. I have no hesitation in recommending this facility.

Reply from Emma Clayton, Care Home Manager at Bablake House

I can confirm that we did have an issue with TV signal to some areas of the home. We have had an aerial engineer investigate and the main TV aerial into the building has now been re routed so it avoids the trees covered by Green belt laws. All TV's within the home are now receiving a good signal.

My mother spent the final three years of her life there between ages 91-94 and was very happy throughout. The management staff were excellent with a positive, friendly and communicative approach towards her and her visitors, and most of the carer staff were also very good (with only one or two exceptions
in the whole three years) and were friendly, helpful, and treated her with dignity at all times. The establishment was always clean with well organised support facilities (e.g. hairdressing, pedicure etc.) My mother was less positive about the food at times though this may have been due to "over-familiarity" with it rather than quality. One minor gripe - the entrance/exit arrangements could do with being more wheelchair friendly (automatic doors would be the ideal solution).

Bablake may not be "luxury" style accommodation but as a good, honest, clean and friendly Care Home I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

My father has been a resident at Bablake House since 2005. He has Parkinson's disease which is a debilitating condition and one in which is slowly progressive. Our father initially came to Bablake House for respite care and eventually became a full time resident 10 years ago. He is treated with dignity
and all members of staff have interacted very well with him over the years...whether it be the domestic staff chatting to him about his favourite football team or general staff around the residential home. The team of carers have been absolutely marvellous and all have been very approachable whenever I visit and wish to discuss my father's well-being. I feel completely content with the way my father is being cared for by the professional and skilled staff. He has now reached the stage where he is completely dependent upon others for his care and personal hygiene and he is always clean and smart whenever I visit the home (randomly). For his family members, we have peace of mind that the management and all the carers have my father's best interests at heart. We can communicate with the manager/assistant manager whenever we wish and feel completely happy that they devote the time to explain various issues which may crop up with new regulations/laws which may be implemented. In summary, I would have no hesitation in recommending this residential home to others - it is well organised, professionally managed and above all the staff provide care in a compassionate manner.

Mum and Dad needed a place to go. I couldn't have done much better. The staff are brilliant; kind and caring. The food is good, and even if my parents didn't want to go into a Home, they are very content now. I live in France and it is a great comfort to know that Mum and Dad are being well looked
after. Five stars !!!!

My mother went into Bablake house in late 2008. We had no experience of selecting places and at the time had to proceed fairly quickly because of her condition. Whilst there are always areas that you would like to see improved and / or some extra things provided, I have to say that through the years
I was always pleased with the way Mum was treated, looked after and monitored during her time at Bablake house. The staff very quickly learned what mums likes and dislikes were which I think is a good measure of the attention given to residents. The staff for the most part were very friendly and interacted with mum very well. She was a lady who liked people she could talk to and get on with, and this was the case at Bablake House. There were of course occasions where things could have been better. Sometimes a dress or trousers would go missing for a while and strange ones would appear in her wardrobe but when dealing with this much washing that is to be expected. They always came back eventually.
The layout of the home makes it much more "homely" than some of the newer ones, having quiet areas for those who want to get away from it all.
If there are downsides, they are, it is not the cheapest of homes, meaning a third party top up for most, and it was a shame when they stopped using the mini bus they had for days out.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.145)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.145) out of 10 for Bablake House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Bablake House is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.478 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bablake House is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.778

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
