The Salvation Army believes that older members of the society deserve to be treated with dignity, and to receive care when it is needed, in an environment which will enhance quality of life. Youell Court provides residential care in a safe, secure, Christian environment for both men and women who can no longer manage in their own homes.

Youell Court was opened in October 2000. The building is owned by The Salvation Army and although admission is open to anyone irrespective of personal belief, its ethos is Christian. Not all the staff are practising Christians but Youell Court is run on Christian principles, and practical care is enhanced by an awareness that people may also need spiritual support. There is an ordained minister on the management team who is available for all residents.

This purpose-built centre for the elderly accommodates residents, living in 5 self-contained suites of eight single bedrooms, each suite having its own lounge and dining area.

At Youell Court, each resident is encouraged to remain as independent as possible and to continue to make choices which enhance and enrich life, as far as is practicable. Residents are encouraged to continue with former interests if at all feasible, and also to make suggestions for social activities.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the gardens at Youell Court which are currently being developed to provide pleasure even for those whose sight may be failing. Residents also have access to the inner courtyards where they can sit and walk in safety.

Youell Court never forgets that each resident is an individual with individual needs.

I am a regular visitor to the home for nearly 3 years and have noticed a great improvement in the last 12 months. The improvement relates to the management of the number of staff employed. Activities are more varied and some are related to resident's requests

A home which cares for its residents, retaining their dignity all times. The home has a friendly feel and the carers ensure that the residents are treated as individuals.
The only downside is that the meals are not cooked freshly on site and some meals are bland and unappealing.

Having visited numerous care facilities when my mother required 24/7 care, Youell Court was one of only two care homes that we felt confident in meeting her needs and satisfying our requirement to provide a safe, caring and professional service.
During her four and a half years stay to date, the quality
of care and constant improvement in staff's understanding of complex needs has continued to impress. This is not a Care Home in the old sense of the term, this is a home that cares, a home that is “home” to the residents a home that residents recognise as their home.
The staff employed at Youell Court are professional, dedicated, competent and friends with the residents and their visitors. The welcome is apparent upon entering the home and all staff are familiar with all residents needs and interests, irrespective of their individual roles and responsibilities. This home fills me with confidence in its ability to provide my mother with care, friendship and a happy place to live.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.758)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.758) out of 10 for Youell Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for Youell Court is calculated as follows: ( (91 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Youell Court is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
