Very welcoming and accommodating staff, attentive, trusting and good relationship with both residents and family members. On occasions the food hasn't been excellent, due to the kitchen staff changes and the resident has continually told them she doesn't like mashed potato and cordial drinks but is
still given them but she has hot drinks when needed. Activities are wonderful and plenty. Room furniture is a little sparse, single wardrobe and 4/5 drawers isn't enough for full time accommodation. We have had to take a drawer unit and the bedclothes could do with changing but we have taken our own. Rooms could do with updating of furnishings. Just one infuriating point is the constant alarm ringing throughout the corridors, noisy and needs to be addressed to turned down. Overall, very good. Very happy otherwise.

Although mum's residency at Redbrick Court started well initially, things started to slide after the recent management changeover with less focus on care.
I have often telephoned up to 12 times a day before someone actually picks up to answer.
The food was always good but since the new cook started
the choices are terrible, either fast food or ultra-processed meals and often served cold.
There are no day excursions out of the home, which other care homes offer, the entertainment lady is the only thing the residents have to look forward to a few hours a week.
There is nowhere to sit when visiting.
Mum was hospitalized in January, there was no call to alert us that this had happened or any courtesy telephone call to see how she was doing, even after 4 years of being a resident at Redbrick.

Reply from Saggar Malde, Operations Director at Redbrick Court

Thank you for sharing your experience at Redbrick Court. Your feedback is important to us as we continually strive to enhance our services for all residents and their families.

Regarding the telephone, while we have encountered occasional issues with our phone system, as we informed you at the time these are on the phone provider's part and as such is an external factor beyond our control. You will be pleased to note however that no other family member has ever raised a concern regarding not being able to reach us.

In terms of our meals, we take pride in our commitment to serving nutritious and freshly prepared meals tailored to the dietary needs and preferences of our residents. Our menus are thoughtfully curated to ensure a balanced and satisfying dining experience for all and we do not make use of fast food or processed foods other than on the odd occasion where our residents may request a fish and chips takeaway. We invite all prospective families to review our menus.

As for activities, we offer a diverse range of opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful and enjoyable experiences. In addition to regular visits from our activities coordinator (3 times per week), we host pet therapy, religious services, hairdressing, our comprehensive range of in-house activities tailored to the interests and preferences of our residents both individually and as a group, as well as monthly events including Chinese New Year, Valentines Day, Father's Day, Sports Day, Charity Coffee, Remembrance Day and Christmas and so many more.

We are surprised that you claimed to not be able to find seating, given that we provide designated areas such as our cafe lounge and garden room where visitors can comfortably spend time with their loved ones.

Finally, regarding the management changeover which took place over a year ago, we want to clarify that our dedication to providing exceptional care has remained steadfast throughout this period. We are delighted with the many improvements that the new manager has brought to the Home, and have received numerous commendations and compliments from residents, families, and professionals, affirming the quality of care and positive changes witnessed during this time.

Despite pointing out a shortage of cutlery and cups on a number of occasions, there is frequently a shortage to the extent that cups and utensils have to be washed up before some residents can eat. Whilst the situation has improved a little, there remains insufficient staff or attention to residents'
needs at lunchtime meaning that help isn't always readily available for those who need support. This includes appropriate equipment, help with food, or with those who become frustrated. The TV in the bedroom is positioned where it is difficult to watch. The majority of staff are lovely, kind and helpful. Entertainment is provided by a very warm and enthusiastic lady. Suggestions have been taken on board by the manager and supervisors who are caring. The fees have recently been increased but still not enough staff or essential equipment eg plastic beakers and cutlery.

Dad has been a resident at Redbrick Court for 12 months now, he settled instantly. Within a couple of months, there was a management change, which is always daunting however I will say it has been a smooth transition and I have seen a better working environment. The care Dad has is great, all understand
Dad's needs and work with him. We have experienced a few infections with Dad, which we saw him struggle with and everyone assisted perfectly.
I can not mark full stars due to the decline in the home's appearance, every room is looking extremely tired and needs attention with at least a paint refresh. This cost is minimal and should be done on a regular basis. Even new curtains in the main lounge areas is minimal cost.
I know the home is clean and cleaned regularly but when it looks so drab it makes it appear dirty.
Overall the care is fantastic and everyone makes all residents feel like it is their own home.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your father's experience at Redbrick Court. We truly appreciate your feedback and are pleased to hear about the positive aspects of his care. We are especially grateful for your kind words regarding the management transition and that the shift has contributed to a better working environment.
Your acknowledgment of the excellent care your father receives is heartening. Our dedicated team strives to understand and meet the unique needs of each resident, and we are glad to know that your father is well-cared for.
We also value your feedback on the appearance of the home. Enhancing the overall environment is a priority, and we assure you that we are committed to addressing this concern. Mum has been a resident at Redbrick Court for 10 months now and I am generally very happy with the care she receives. I have never witnessed any impatience or unkindness from the staff, I find them friendly and caring, always willing to listen to any concerns and act if need be. Her room is kept spotless,
as are her clothes and any 'mishaps' are dealt with promptly.
The food always smells delicious and she is given plenty of drinks throughout the day. Mum is encouraged to walk with her frame whenever possible, keeping her mobile and moving.
Mum is encouraged to join in with activities and despite her reluctance does enjoy them.
At times I am aware that they are short staffed, especially at weekends, but the manager is doing her best to address this in the midst of staff shortages throughout the care sector.

Dad has been at Redbrick Court Care Home for two years, his care has been really good. Sadly, Dad recently passed away and the current manager and the whole team were excellent, maintaining respect and dignity and all staff were kind and caring during this time. The home urgently needs more staff and
needs an overall upgrade to include equipment but couldn't wish for nicer and more caring staff.

Reply from Adele Dudley, Care Manager at Redbrick Court

Thank you for your kind words with regards to myself and the whole staff team, they are really appreciated. We've made great progress in recruiting more staff. With regards to equipment, your father didn't require any specialist equipment but please rest assured that the home has all the relevant equipment in place. Thank you again for your compliments, your father is really missed by us all.

Mom has been at Redbrick for six months and settled well. Staff are obliging, caring and friendly and treat Mum with dignity. I feel there are not enough regular staff on a weekend, but management is trying to address this. Rooms are light and comfortable. Problems with equipment are sorted quickly.
The manager is available, helpful, patient and kind. Food and drink are plentiful and well-cooked with choices. The activities coordinator is encouraging and enthusiastic. Trips out could be restarted. I feel toileting could be done more often. The home has plenty of room to walk around. I see humour and kindness on a daily basis.

Mom became a resident of Redbrick in January 2021 at the height of Covid. She was 98 years old with a degree of dementia; her care from then on was extremely good, as she became increasingly frail and her dementia became worse, the care level stepped up. Sadly she passed away on 17/07/23, and Redbrick
provided superb end-of-life care for her over the past week of her life.
I cannot speak highly enough of the staff and the personal and professional manner of the senior staff.

I cannot fault Redbrick Court and the care they provide to my mom. Mom has been in Redbrick now for just over two months and has settled in well. She received excellent care and attention, and we both feel she is in a safe environment. Mom is involved with activities, which she enjoys and tells me the
food is delicious.

I am delighted with the care my sister has at Redbrick Court. Most importantly she always says how nice it is and how lovely the staff are. She enjoys the meals and likes how the staff will sit and talk to her and share her memories. I note how the staff always know how she is and are willing to discuss
her well-being and happiness. They are always very friendly, polite and professional. The security is excellent as the ongoing precautions again covid. I would definitely recommend Redbrick to others seeking care.

Overall, the home is very good. The staff are always friendly and courteous and have a very good rapport with the residents. Speaking on a personal level, my mum always appears very happy in their company and receives very good care. During Covid conditions, I was very pleased with the way the management
and staff handled the situation and the fact that they had so few cases whilst other homes I know of had numerous cases. I do miss going to visit Mum in the lounge or her room but understand the reasons. Well done, management and staff of Redbrick Court.

My mam is really settled at Redbrick Court. Each member of staff is kind and caring and demonstrates compassion with my mam. There is individualized care, which my mam needs with a dementia diagnosis. I feel happy that my mam is looked after 100%. All staff are approachable and listen to any concerns
or worries I have around my mam's health. I would strongly recommend this care home.

My father has been a resident at this home for approximately five years, and I would not have him anywhere else. The care and support are wonderful. I call them my angels because they are. I know my father is safe and looked after. He has a tendency to be aggressive, but they know how to deal with him.
I live 25 miles from the home, but that is much choice because I choose to keep him at Redbrick. My father would not be alive today without them.

I live in Australia and can't leave the country because of Covid.. I haven't seen my mum in over 2 years now because of it.
My sister is her main carer and she desperately needed a break. Mum went into Redbrick Court for one week respite. She was very reluctant to go but oh my... What fantastic care
she received! I phoned nearly every day from Australia and the carers/nurses were so kind and obliging. Mum had a fantastic experience and said that she felt like Royalty! The food was marvellous and they looked after her so well. She has no reservations in future to go back there. It gave me such peace of mind knowing how she was cared for and not being able to visit her. Well done you wonderful people!

My mother has been at Red Brick Court for the last 3 years - it is with a heavy heart she is now having to move due to deterioration with her dementia and now requires nursing care. The care that she has been given has been second to none and I can't praise the staff enough for the care and compassion
they have given. Fantastic care home and staff - a big thank you to all for the care you have given.

My mum has been a resident at Redbrick Court for almost 12 months. She is 88 years old and has dementia. The care my mum receives is extremely good, the staff are very compassionate and caring and it’s clear to see that they do the job because they enjoy caring for people. The food is freshly prepared
every day and they are provided with endless drinks throughout the day. I am confident that my mum's needs are catered for and she is receiving the best care possible. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Redbrick Court.

My dad went into the home in October 2019 after he was unable to cope at home any more. He suffered from dementia, and it was difficult to find a suitable placement for him. It took him a while to settle, but the staff were absolutely amazing, and soon he trusted them and they looked after him like
he was their own family. All I can say is they supported him and my family up until the end, and that was not easy during the lockdown situation. We were allowed to be with him when he died, and I am so grateful for that. Thank you to all your staff.

My Mother recently passed away having been at Redbrick Court for over a couple of months. Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.711)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.711) out of 10 for Redbrick Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.065 for Redbrick Court is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.065

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.646 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Redbrick Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 37 registered maximum number of service users is 7.4. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.4 = 0.946

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
