The service provided to my Brother was excellent. The staff were totally supportive and gave nothing but first-class support and encouragement every day. Family members were welcomed and encouraged to visit. The home felt comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I felt my Brother
was a member of their family and treated with respect throughout his time at the home. The manager was so professional and focused and I can only give nothing but praise for the while team who worked as a unit to provide the first-class service my Brother received. Thank you so much.

My mom went into Nelson House in February 2024. It took her a little while to settle, but with the care and compassion of the staff, she soon settled down. Mom's health declined but it was agreed that she could stay with them and the necessary love would be provided, which it has been. Every care and
consideration is given, Mom's dignity is always taken into consideration. Whatever needs doing is explained to her beforehand. My feelings are always respected and I feel free to discuss any issues.

I can not recommend this care home highly enough. The manager and her team of staff are just brilliant making it feel like home from home nothing is too much trouble for them they care so much for all of there residents. The home is spotlessly clean my mom has made so much progress in the short time
she has been there and I know I do not have to worry about her because she is so well looked after they keep me up to date with what activities she is doing. She calls it home from home now and says they are all her family.

My father has been a resident at Nelson House for over two years now. My friend's mother was a resident so we used to visit her there so my father knew the residents and the staff so when he was diagnosed with vascular dementia himself, it made perfect sense to ask if they’d be able to have him. In
over two years I’ve never had any concern, staff are always helpful and willing to assist with any query. I’m very happy with the level of care my father gets and would recommend Nelson House fully.

My mother-in-law became a resident of Nelson House in 2017 after a couple of respite stays with them and I cannot fault them. From day one the management and staff made us feel so welcome and my mother-in-law was extremely happy there. She was always clean and presentable and it was nice to see her
gain weight now that there was someone to encourage her and provide her with nice meals. She enjoyed activities in the home and was so grateful when the manager purchased some of her favourite music CD's and books that she wanted to read, she also enjoyed going on outings that included afternoon teas and a Pantomime. When Mother-in-Law became ill with a terminal illness the whole staffing team treated her with dignity and compassion as her illness worsened and they also provided the whole family with emotional support. We were so relieved that she could spend her final days at Nelson House rather than in hospital with strangers and we are eternally grateful for this.

Our family cannot recommend Nelson House highly enough. All of the staff cared for our Aunt to the highest standard. They went the extra mile and we were always safe in the knowledge that she was in excellent hands. Nelson House staff have a very personal touch and treated our Aunt like a cherished
family member. We will be forever grateful to the manager and her team.

Nelson House promotes the concept that residents are at home, not IN a home. The management try a variety of ideas to promote individuals well being and meet individual needs.
The staff are always welcoming when you visit and are aware of mums state of health, needs etc. As my mothers only near relative,
they are very supportive of my needs and are like a second family to myself and my mother. I have total confidence in the management and staff at Nelson House in providing my mum with the very best of care.

My husband went in on the 16-9-17 for two weeks respite for me to go on a holiday I had booked. I was pleased with the arrangement because he can not walk well and also very stubborn in his ways. The people that work there were very friendly to him and me.

I am looked after very well here. I have a lovely bright, airy large room. There are nice people to talk to. If I feel poorly I get a lot of attention. The food is good. I like the activities especially the art and craft session, the service with the Methodist minister and the visiting entertainment.
I like having my hair and nails done every week.

My nan is happy and well cared for at Nelson House. The staff are very friendly and helpful and clearly understand my nan's needs. I have visited at different times of day and the staff are always very accommodating, offering drinks etc. The owners and the manager have good relationships with the residents
too and I am confident that my nan is getting the best care and that the staff are treating her with kindness and respect. I would not hesitate in recommending this care home to others as I am very pleased with what I have seen when I have visited.

My mom went in for a week's rest bite. She has dementia. The staff got her settled in very quickly. Comfortable and homely home. When I visited mom she seemed happy and all the staff were very attentive. They also had singers there with piano and mom was even having a little dance. All in all very
happy with service there and would not hesitate to take mom there in the future.

My mother has been a resident at Nelson House since July 2016 due to a fall at home that left her with a broken hip. The transition from hospital to Nelson House was handled with great care and understanding she has dementia and can get confused but all staff are patient and caring. Myself and the family
are very happy with the standard of care she receives.

The decision to move my grandfather into residential care was not one that was taken lightly, like all families we wanted the best for him and at 103 we felt he deserved the best we could provide. I can say with all honesty, we have found that in Nelson House. His dementia can be challenging at times
but the staff and the management team have risen to the challenge and have been consistent in their care and support of both him and of us as a family. Nothing is too much trouble, the standard of care, in my opinion, is excellent and the home has a unique family atmosphere where family input and support is encouraged. In the few months my grandfather has been there, he has flourished, gained weight and his personality is shining through once again. I cannot recommend Nelson House highly enough.

Since my grandfather arrived here in May, he has been looked after with professional carers who seem to have the time for his daily needs. Nothing is a tedious task and no job is a hardship. They are very caring and loving in every way. They are also very supportive and understanding of our family and
are always there to listen to any concerns. My grandfather despite his dementia looks a different man and it is all thanks to them.

My mother was admitted in January 2015 after leaving hospital. My mother has dementia and had been very ill. Whilst at Nelson House she improved tremendously, she started eating again and putting on weight etc. The care she receives is excellent. There are lots of activities, she can get involved with
arts/crafts, entertainers, animals, keep fit etc. I can talk to the staff about any problems that arise. My mother is now a permanent resident of Nelson House, my mother is extremely happy there, which in turn makes me happy. I know she is safe, secure, well looked after and above all else happy where she is. I would recommend Nelson House to everyone.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.018)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.018) out of 10 for Nelson House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.417 for Nelson House is calculated as follows: ( (13 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.417

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.601 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nelson House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 21 registered maximum number of service users is 4.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.2 = 0.476

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
