Dingle Meadow care home, situated in a peaceful residential area in Oldbury, in the heart of the Black Country, supports older people to lead their best lives with personalised residential and residential dementia care.

The two sitting rooms and two dining areas at Dingle Meadow care home provide a relaxed setting for eating and socialising. The hairdressing salon is always popular, while the pretty, enclosed garden, looked after by some residents, is a great spot to catch up with friends and family.

The catering team at Dingle Meadow understands the nutritional needs of older people and creates delicious meals to ensure a lovely dining experience for all residents and visitors. They offer a wide range of popular dining areas that provide a welcoming space to enjoy meals with fellow residents, or family and friends. For the warmer months, the outdoor spaces are also firm favourites with residents and their loved ones to enjoy a spot of al fresco dining.

I visited the home for the first time in two years as a member of my church is there for respite care. The home welcome I received was excellent. There were plenty of visible staff who were friendly, helpful and displayed a positive professional but still personalised service to the lady’s I was visiting.
I walked with my resident to her room and found the lounge, corridor, lift and her room spotless and odour free. There was plenty of interaction between residents and staff members and my resident said: “It’s lovely here, the staff are very friendly and I feel safe”. I left feeling content knowing that my resident was happy. Well done to all at Dingle Meadow.

All seems OK. My dad looked after and now seems a bit more content. Doesn't always look as though there are many staff available.

Thank you for your feedback which we have now had a chance to discuss and concluded that when you usually visit around 11.00 am, staff are starting their breaks. They don’t go together, however one at a time for 20 minutes each. I have spoken with the senior team to make sure that they are more visible when care staff are busy or on break. I have also advised the care teams that they should let the senior know if they are assisting residents in their rooms so that they can again assist in the communal lounges. I understand that overall you are happy with your Father’s care.

We are pleased overall. The home is clean and comfortable. Our aunty is quite happy there. There could be more outings once a week perhaps to the shops - how boring being stuck inside week after week. More entertainment, choir visits from schools, pet visits? Occasionally some carers treat her without
respect but most are lovely. Food could be more colourful.

Following a meeting with the family concerned they are very happy with the home overall and commented on the many improvements that had been made since their family member has been staying at the home. The comment regarding 'some carers do not treat her aunt with respect' was a reference to one occasion several months ago when her aunt made a comment about one carer and does not appear to have happened again. Food is always discussed in our Residents meetings and recently we have been complimented on the choice and standards. Menus are planned with nutritional value, variety and colour in mind. Trips out are a priority, however, the recent weather has made this very difficult. We do have our own minibus and welcome support from our relatives to enable us to take more people out when trips are planned.
I assured the family that we continue to strive to be better and thanked them for their feedback.

My dad suffers from dementia.
Both my parents went into Dingle Meadow Care Home together in 2015. My mother died in 2016 and my dad is still there.
He has settled well and all the staff are very good to him. He always smiles at them and they always have a smile for him. He has been in hospital three
times since Christmas with sepsis and pneumonia. He is 92 and a half years old and they do keep an eye on him. I can honestly say that all the staff are caring and helpful also in the kitchen.

The first impression was quite good but quickly came to realise that ultimate aim, as with most care homes, is to make as much money from self-funders to subsidise council-paid residents. The company didn't staff adequately; either with the quantity of staff and sometimes the quality. Experienced a
couple of incidents with mistakes administering meds, which would not happen if a "real" wage was paid. Glossy brochure showing beautifully presented, quality meals wasn't the reality. Changing water jug in room daily seemed to present a problem too.

We are committed to delivering this vision through recruiting, training and staffing our homes with all permanent HC-One carers.
Please be assured all of our homes meet or exceed the staffing guidelines that are set by our regulators. We are committed to providing Residents with the high quality, kind care they deserve, and therefore tailor our staffing levels to ensure we can meet everyone’s individual needs.
We have been working closely with Sandwell Local Authority and as a result of this inter– organisational focus we have increased where necessary the number of care staff on duty.
We actively encourage our care staff to enhance their learning and extend their care skills.
Medication management and compliance remains a high priority focus within all our care homes.


You have highlighted concerns about the food on offer at the home, and we apologise if we have fallen short of the high standards we aspire to.
Each home has its own dedicated catering team who prepare all meals using fresh, raw, ingredients. All fresh meat and meat products are British Farm Assured. Making sure Residents have a choice of their favourite foods is really important to us and we record their individual preferences. We are delighted to welcome families and loved-ones to share in mealtimes, and the Sunday roast is a special time at many of our homes.
The new manager at the care home has taken your comments on board and as a result, has increased the number of Dignity in Dining Experiences she undertakes in order to monitor the service, quality and overall mealtime experience for our Residents; any actions identified in this area will be addressed. We periodically carry out a Food for Thought survey for Residents and relatives to further improve our service from the feedback provided.


Regarding the issue raised in respect of the changing of the water jugs within Resident’s rooms, the manager monitors this closely as part of her daily walk around checks within our Quality System.

My mother has been a resident for the past 3 years. I am perfectly satisfied with her care. She has dementia and I am happy she is being looked after to my satisfaction as she is unable to tell me herself. I am also relieved that she cannot leave the building without supervision, something she was always
threatening to do when she lived at home.

Emma

Emma Cuttress

Job Title: Home Manager

“For me, kind care is person-centred, always treating people with the compassion and understanding that I would expect for myself.”


As a dedicated healthcare professional, Emma has gained a wealth of experience in providing care and nursing support to elderly people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.


Emma closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Dingle Meadow.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Emma remarked:


“There’s nothing more rewarding for me than seeing Residents smiling and enjoying life.”


Outside of work, Emma devotes her time to her two gorgeous ragdoll cats and raising money for animal charities.
