Lovely care home and surroundings but definitely need more staff! Food is poor, cheap and cheerful and often cold, supplemented by taking and buying our own. Nurses are of an acceptable level, although doctor's matters are done over the phone, rather than in attendance. Entertainment and activities
are good and involve all residents. Staff are acceptable, some being better than others but friendly.

Thank you very much for your review. Your feedback is really important to us as we strive to maintain the highest standards throughout our service. We have made our chef aware of the concerns you have and he will take all appropriate action to ensure that your loved one receives food suited to their tastes and preferences. We have just posted out invitations to care reviews for all of the relatives and all of our Heads of Departments will attend these. We also hold weekly relative surgeries and in addition, our Home Manager's door is always open should you prefer to chat in person. We would highly recommend following one of these routes so that we may speak with you about any specific concerns and make sure that the service meets your expectations. We are glad that your loved one is enjoying the entertainment and activities and hope to see you soon. Best wishes.

Due to recent closures of units my relative does not seem to be getting the care and attention we had become used to. The staff in the office is always very helpful and understanding, should be looked after by management, a real asset to the company. The staff member who looks after the residents wellbeing/entertainment
is doing a fantastic job, always thinking of new ways to interact with the residents, which must be very hard to do on your own. We know there has been a lot of redundancies and closures of units. Hopefully management will realise their worth and look after these staff. Also improve on the care of the residents.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Ryland View Care Home

Thank you very much for your kind comments about our wonderful Activity Coordinator and Office Administrator. They are fantastic and we are lucky to have them! We apologise if you felt a bit unsettled during the recent consolidation period when we closed a unit to focus on delivering quality care to two separate houses using our own experienced team. We acknowledge that there a bit of change and thank-you for your patience. As things are now settling really well we are seeing the positive benefits that these changes are delivering. Should you have any concerns please pop in anytime and we can discuss in more detail. Best wishes.

Aunt seems happy and content. Pleasant staff. Only let-down is laundry. Even with name and room number, clothes, socks etc go missing.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Ryland View Care Home

Hello and thank you very much for your review. We are delighted that your aunt is happy and content at Ryland View and that you find the staff to be pleasant when you are visiting. Please pop into the office and let us know if your aunt is missing a particular item of clothing and we will get the team to investigate. Small items can sometimes go missing (socks are the main culprit) but do mysteriously appear later and are then returned to their owner. Thanks again and best wishes.

My father was a resident in this awful care home for just 12 days, during this time he suffered three incidents, he was left lying in his own faeces on two occasions for a ridiculous amount of time, so he tried to clean it up with his own hands which resulted in him wiping all over his bed, on the second
occasion he banged his hand which resulted in him having a nasty bruise, and the third incident he climbed out of his bed and banged his head on the floor, the so-called pathetic night staff were far too slow to respond and my father was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, we immediately terminated our involvement with this disgraceful care home, I strongly advise everyone not to let any of your loved ones into this care home as they will not be safe.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Ryland View Care Home

Thank-you for your feedback and we are sorry that we did not meet you or your family's expectations during your dad's short stay at Ryland View. Sadly, we are unable to offer 1 to 1 care in our communal living setting without prior notice and agreement from the local authority to allow additional staff members to be recruited and allocated. Prior to admission we were given an assessment of dad's care needs which regrettably did not identify these additional requirements. We would have welcomed the opportunity to have met with you in advance of your dad's admission to discuss your view of his needs so we could have shared with you directly the care service provided and measures in place to minimise risk, and enabled you to agree if they were what you felt you needed for him. This may have improved your experience which is not truly reflective of the high standards of care that we provide for the residents and the support for their families and loved ones. We send our very best wishes.

Couldn't have wished for better care for Mom. Staff are very kind and Mom was well looked after, always washed and clean clothes every day. Mom enjoyed the food she was given and said there was a variety. I would recommend Ryland View to anyone.

My sister was in Ryland View for 13 years. We were always very happy with her care. The staff treated her as one of the family, and although she was always on my mind, their care always ceased my worries.

My mother spent two weeks in respite care at Ryland Vire. She has memory issues, so cannot remember her stay. All of the family and friends who visited were impressed with the staff and facilities. I was informed of minor health issues, and the staff got a phone to Mom so we could speak to each other.
Everyone I met seemed genuinely to care for every resident.

The care that Mum gets is exceptional from all of the staff. They do all they can to make sure Mum is clean, comfortable, sometimes it does get difficult because of the dementia but staff always treat her with respect, kindness and care. I am always informed of Mum's health when I visit or by phone.
The staff are always friendly, and they will always listen to what I have to say. I cannot thank them enough for all their care and hard work, also their dedication. The staff make the home.

My mom was here for nearly three years before the standards and care dropped. Even though she was at end of life we moved her. The staff kept changing most of them were unfriendly. We went every week and at lunch time Mom was unwashed and uncomfortable. She was 97 and had dementia. The food was awful
pigs swill, no one came to feed her anyway. The laundry and cleaner were the only nice staff there. It was all very disgusting.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Ryland View Care Home

Thank you for your feedback. This review has come as a surprise to us all at Ryland and we would kindly encourage you to make contact with us directly so that we can verify and discuss your comments in more detail. At the time that you moved your mum the reason offered was because you would prefer her to be closer to home and your original first choice home, which was previously full, now had a vacancy for her to move in. The low scores you have provided are not representative of recent ratings which are regularly complimentary about the food and the staff team and so we would welcome the opportunity to gain more understanding on this. Best wishes.

Visitors are always warmly welcomed by friendly staff. They genuinely personally cared for my mother and did all that they could, even through difficult circumstances as my mother's frailty grew. A care home needs a good physical environment but it is the staff who make it a home!

My mom has been in Ryland View Heronville Unit since 1st February 2022 for an assessment. I have no worries about the care she has received and even though mom was only temporary the staff and unit manager and nurse took good care of her and did go the extra mile to make sure she was safe as she has
an attendance to fall. If this home was closer to family and friends mom would be staying with them.

My brother recently stayed for respite at Ryland View Care Home and the staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly. My brother was really worried but loved it and didn't want to leave when it was time to come back home. The staff called to give us reassurance and nothing was too much trouble. The food
was very nice and everyone was so kind. He is looking forward to going back.

My dad has been a resident at Heronville House for some time now and I have seen the changes within the management and I have to say I'm so happy with the changes. The staff are always welcoming and polite and the House Manager always takes the time to talk through any concerns I have whether I am visiting
or over the phone. I was considering moving my dad as I wasn't happy with the overall service, however, since the Home Manager took over she brought in new staff and changes I am so impressed with everyone especially how they look after my dad on Heronville. It's great to see happy staff and my dad is so well looked after I would never move him now. Thank you everyone for all your help, my dad and my family appreciate the efforts you're taking. Keep up the great work!

Our mom has been a resident in Heronville House Unit for almost two years. She is treated with the most care and kindness by all the staff. We are kept informed of her health and wellbeing at all times. Mom is happy and content and we are always greeted with a smile and a warm hello when we visit. Heronville
House Unit is a lovely, warm, caring unit with fantastic staff. Keep up the good work and thank you to everyone.

My mother was admitted to hospital last year and after being in for a few months. It was deemed unsafe for Mom to return home due to her health deterioration/dementia as she lived on her own. The decision was made for Mum to go into permanent care. Ryland View was very supportive, open and honest regarding
the process and what to expect. Care at Ryland View was always excellent with friendly, attentive and capable staff.
Such a caring place would recommend to anyone; we were always contacted if there were any problems/kept informed of any changes to Mum. Their love and care for their residents are amazing.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.944)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.944) out of 10 for Ryland View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 14 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.731 for Ryland View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (29 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (21 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 167 Ratings = 3.731

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.213 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ryland View Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 144 registered maximum number of service users is 28.8. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 28.8 = 0.313

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
