Mum has been living at St Bernard's now for 10 months - I cannot recommend it highly enough. The understanding, patience, high level of care and attention that she receives all helped her make the adjustment from living at home. She is thriving.
It does not feel like an institution; it is a welcoming,
warm, inclusive home with a beautiful, well-maintained garden. Mum's needs are being met; she feels happy and secure which, in turn, gives us huge peace of mind. There is good communication between staff and the family.
It is an exceptional place.

Dad recently had a four week respite stay at St Bernards. From our initial enquiry to the subsequent visit the management devoted a considerable amount of time to us discussing Dad's needs in a professional and compassionate manner.
Our situation was time sensitive and we were so grateful for their
understanding acting in the best interests of Dad.
During his stay Dad received a very high level of care. All the staff were very attentive and caring taking the time to have conversations and continually checking on his needs.
The food was all freshly prepared, varied and of a high standard.
His room was clean, modern and well-equipped; this was a constant throughout the premises. It is thoughtfully laid out retaining original features with beautiful well maintained gardens.
Overall we were very well pleased with St Bernards. Staff seemed to be very happy in their work which in turn creates a warm, friendly, caring and homely environment.
We would highly recommend St Bernards for your loved ones.

You always get a warm welcome when you arrive at St Bernard's. This is the same when you phone up to speak to a resident. The staff are very approachable and friendly which helps to create a good ethos. They deal with any questions/issues promptly.
There is a real feeling of warmth and well-being
at St Bernard's which is one of the reasons that our family chose it for our mother. We have not been disappointed!

Mum has been at St Bernards for 5 years and has always been looked after with the utmost care. Her needs have changed over the 5 years and the care given has changed to accommodate her. She has been happy and feels that she has been treated like a 'queen'. Communication with the home has been good always
letting me know of anything that would involve or affect her.

My mom has been living at St Bernard's for 7 months. She has settled in very well. The home is very welcoming and the staff are lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. From a very friendly welcome from the receptionist who will answer any problems you may have to the amazing cuisine the kitchen staff provide
for the residents. The manager is always available if you need to discuss any issues with my mom.
The staff are able to treat mom with respect and dignity.

Mum came to St Bernards for two months following a discharge from hospital and they have been absolutely outstanding in terms of the care provided. The care staff are caring and compassionate with a good sense of humour and empathy, whilst still recognising individual needs and character traits. Communication
has been excellent in terms of updating us with hospital/doctor visits etc, the food (and cakes!) are outstanding, engaging activities and the management team are lovely to deal with.
Thank you all so much for everything you have done for Mum and all of us.

I have visited St Bernards at least a dozen times in the last 15 months to see my mother-in-law and I would like to congratulate them on the service provided by excellent care workers, reception, and catering staff.
As an example on one visit earlier this year, before my mother-in-law's recent decline,
all four of your staff who came in the room greeted her warmly with some sensitive physical touch and each engaged her in meaningful generally amusing conversation. Moreover, communication between her carers, receptionists etc and ourselves has been excellent too, with prompt informative replies to emails and phone calls enquiring about her progress.
Many years ago now I wrote several open learning books for the Department of Health on Quality in Health and Social Care - and if I were to write an update today, a St Bernards case study would most definitely be included as an example of excellent all-round quality service!

My dad, who has Alzheimer's, has been at St Bernards since February 2022, and he is very content there. There are always plenty of staff around, and they are all very caring, kind and respectful, and I feel they have really got to know Dad and his personality. Dad often comments on how helpful the staff
are. The home is very tastefully decorated, and the lounges and dining room are always calm and comfortable for residents, with lovely views over the mature garden. There are plenty of varied activities, such as a talk for armistice day, musical events, and therapy dog visits. As a family, we are all very happy that Dad is being taken care of so well.

When I arrived here, my health wasn't in a good condition, but it wasn't long before it improved. This was due to the attention/needs that I was given. I consider myself to be an independent person, but the staff are always there if needed. I find myself now to be in a safe and comfortable place. I
have got myself into a routine of doing excise/walking around an excellent garden/sketching at odd times, and having conversations. It is difficult to have to leave one's own home, but now I feel that this is my home.

My sister arrived at St Bernards in August 2021. She was failing fast. Happily, she is still with us, content, wonderfully looked after with her health greatly improved, though a little up and down. The owner, management and staff are "saints"; dealing with someone with hearing and sight issues can
be a challenge, and so committed to their residents.
Over recent years, my sister had visited friends who had been residents at St Bernards and a number of other care homes in Solihull. She chose St Bernards herself (at aged 95), a really great choice, which it needed to be during the pandemic when the management ran a really "tight ship" to the benefit of residents, staff and loved ones.

My mom has been at St Bernards for a few months and has settled in well. All of the staff, from management through to carers, are all professional and friendly and ensure they get to know each and every resident.
Great food and activities arranged to keep residents engaged and active. We have also
been to social events involving the families, which has been good to be involved.

Mom initially had respite care in November 2021 at St Bernards. As she was living with Alzheimer's, the family were very anxious about her care and how she would cope. She was very distressed on arrival.
We need not have worried. We had a call from the home on the day to say how she was getting on
and had settled very quickly. We continued to receive updates during that first week, which was very comforting. As the respite was coming to an end, we met with the staff, and we all agreed that as she had settled so well, it would be to her benefit to reside permanently. Mom was so much more settled and happier - the fear had gone. Every time we see her, she's smiling and happy. The commitment of all the staff is exemplary. Nothing is too much trouble, and the care that St Bernards provides is of a very high standard, both personal care and enrichment. Would highly recommend St Bernards without question.

Since selecting St Bernards for the care of our elderly aunt, all I can say is that we are very happy with all aspects of the care provided. Communication is always available, and the staff do their best to accommodate the needs of the visitors/relatives.

My 90-year-old Mum recently spent 2-weeks in respite care at St Bernard’s care home.
It was Mum’s first experience of being in a residential setting whilst I enjoyed a long-overdue break away.
The home manager and her team (receptionist, domestic and care team) were all very engaging, polite and professional
to Mum, who was very settled during her stay.
Mum was visited by family and friends, who were also very complimentary about the St Bernard’s team, and each of them commented that Mum looked cared for and was happy in the beautiful surroundings of the home and beautiful gardens.
I would highly recommend St Bernard’s to anyone looking at respite care or long term residential care. It is a home that offers everything you need and more, and most importantly, the reassurance that the care given to each of the residents is individual and delivered to an exceptionally high standard, by a dedicated experienced manager and her excellent team.
Thank you all so much.

The staff at St Bernards Residental Care Home provide a high standard of care for my mother. They are aware of residents individual needs and take account of these. Staff are friendly and approachable and seek the views of residents and their families. They constantly strive to innovate and improve
the service they provide. The house has a lovely atmosphere and feels like a real home. It is always clean and everything is well presented. The named carers my mother has had have all taken time to get to know her and have built lovely relationships with her. As a family we are really grateful for the loving care my mother receives at St Bernard's.

Mum is being cared for very well by people clearly interested in her and who enjoy their work.
Mum isn't a natural mixer but I'm confident that she is content in observing the other residents enjoying their activities.
She appears settled even though she is unable to vocalise her appreciation.

Dad was admitted to this care home at the beginning of the year after suffering a stroke. Unfortunately, Dad also had Alzheimer's he found it very difficult to settle as he just wanted to be with his family but unfortunately, his partner couldn't meet his needs and although I would have had him to come
and live with me, this was not possible as I live in Sussex and it was too far away for his partner to visit. The home went out of their way to try and help him to settle and then the pandemic happened and restrictions came in which meant all residents had to be isolated to their rooms and no visitors. They arranged for the family to have Facetime with him as much as possible but he couldn't understand really what was going on and he quickly went downhill and died in April 2020. I do believe that care homes should be allowed to arrange visits so that loved ones can visit, I believe it would be possible to create all safety measures to ensure this was in place. Fully recommended.

It’s a difficult decision to move a loved one into a care home, but everyone involved in helping us and Dad with the transition at St Bernards was wonderful. From day one they were all patient, understanding, respectful and above all caring and friendly. Dad was happy and that’s what mattered to us
the most. We would highly recommend the home to any family in the same position. It didn’t feel like we had put him into a care home, more like he was staying in a lovely hotel for the elderly.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.352)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.352) out of 10 for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.838 for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.838

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
