My father was welcomed into St Bernards very quickly after we were forced to accept he could no longer live independently. Having viewed several homes we were pleased that St Bernards were able to provide him residential care due to his worsening dementia. His well-being both mentally and physically
improved over the time he was there. The food was excellent and the staff were fantastic. Thanks to the carers.

My father has been a resident at St Bernards for nearly three years. The standards of care have been exemplary throughout despite Dad’s complex condition and needs. He is very happy there and our confidence that he is being looked after so well has helped us enormously. Dad settled in quickly, thinking
it was more like a 5-star hotel than a Care Home, but as his condition has worsened and his needs increased the true standards of care have shone through.
If we are faced with Care needs in our family in the future we would look no further.

I have experience of only one other care home - and I see that has a 5-star review. St Bernards is head and shoulders above that.
It is the quality of the staff that makes the home so exceptional. All the staff have warm and positive personalities; all are kind, considerate and generous to the residents.
As a visitor, I am always welcomed, and I am always kept informed of my brother-in-law's circumstances. If he needs anything that I cannot provide his needs are always met by St Bernards.
The house is well designed and well furnished. It is scrupulously clean and well maintained. The resident's room I know is excellent though it would be even better if it had a shower in its en suite facilities. Provision is made for residents to take some of their own furniture and mementoes.
An undoubted plus is the garden. It is a pleasant ambience to sit and meet relatives.

My mother has been in this home for close to 2 years now. She came here from another residential home in the locality following a number of unacceptable problems. St Bernards was a breath of fresh air to my mother and our family. She is well cared for, always clean and well-fed. My mother is very happy
here which is the most important thing to our family. The staff are lovely to her and make a fuss of her regularly. There are always staff members watching over the residents whereas, in her previous home, I would arrive and sit with the residents and not see a member of staff for half an hour!! The decor is bright and clean, and the gardens are lovely. Whilst I am always sad to leave her because you can never be certain of the future, I don't have sleepless night worrying if she is ok and if she is safe. Thanks to all the team. I will be eternally grateful.

I cannot praise the home and staff enough. The care is fantastic. Mom always looked immaculate and the staff interact with the residents all the time. There are activities on every day or the staff take the residents out on trips down to the beautiful gardens.
Occasionally, they are short-staffed but
is doesn't cause any major problems. Myself and my family feel very happy knowing mom is at St Bernards.

Initially, as a family, we could not fault the home. However, issues have arisen re communication and medical attention. We have had cause to complain on one or two occasions and our emails were not acknowledged, let alone responded to. After some upset, communication has improved. The GP used is unsatisfactory
and management should recognise this as some carers do.
However, the individual carers are excellent and their level of care is second to none. Above all, my mother is very happy and that is what matters.

My mother entered the care home in November 2017. The staff are very caring and quite tactile. This has helped my mother settle quickly and she is more happy and contented than I have seen her for a long time. The care home is like a hotel rather than an institution. The dining tables have linen table
clothes (rather than canteen style wipe down tables) There is a beautiful garden to sit in and lovely patio to enjoy in the sunny weather. We cannot fault the care my mother is now receiving.

We have been delighted with the care and support mum has received since she moved in. The accommodation is immaculate, spotlessly clean and spacious. There are several communal lounges all pleasantly furnished.

The staff are always welcoming, smiling and genuinely sincere. We looked after the number

of possible homes for mum and this was the best by a considerable distanced.
There are regular activities, a pleasant garden to enjoy and sit out in. The place is a real home from home and a credit to the staff and owners.

I chose St Bernards for my aunt because of the homely atmosphere and particularly the excellent programme of activities. Unfortunately, Aunt has not wished to take advantage of the activity programme but in every other respect, she is well cared for and content. She feels it a bonus that she is not
obliged to be sociable. Aunt and I are confident that every effort will be made to keep her at St Bernards for the remainder of her days. It is such a relief to us both.

I have had experience of other care homes and this is as good as any. Definitely seem to do everything to take care of the best interests of the residents. Always appear to be well staffed and all take a real interest in their jobs. I have absolutely no concerns or complaints.

My Mother moved into St Bernards Residential Care Home in October 2015 and she was welcomed in a caring and homely environment.

The home is beautiful with a lovely garden which helped my Mum to make the difficult transition from her own home to residential care. However, more importantly, the staff

at the home could not have been kinder or more helpful. They cared for my Mother and she felt at home there and surrounded by a new family.

The food was delicious and there were lots of regular meals to tempt Mum. We took snacks in initially but soon realised they were not needed (nor eaten) because Mum had all the meals, snacks and drinks she needed or could wish for.

I am deeply grateful for all the professional care and also the kindness and affection which was felt, not only by my Mother but by the family and friends who visited Mum at St Bernards too.

An excellent care home. All residents appear to be well cared for. Relatives are always welcome, and all staff/management provide support to them, as well as to the residents. There are lots of activities for the residents and their families to join in with and staff enthusiastically take part as well.
Food at the care home is tasty, nutritious and beautifully presented. I have no concerns with my aunt being cared for at St Bernard's.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.352)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.352) out of 10 for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.838 for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is calculated as follows: ( (67 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 80 Ratings = 4.838

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Bernards Residential Care Home Ltd is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
