We have had a really positive experience with mom at Highgate Lodge. The staff have been incredibly kind, attentive and helpful to both mom and her relatives and friends. The manager and carers have got to know mom in a short space of time, which is a lovely trait. The home gives off a happy vibe, it
is very clean. The social activities are also a positive and involve both staff and residents. We, as a family, feel mom is in very good hands and is safe, which is the priority. I would like to express our thanks to all the staff at Highgate Lodge.

I really wouldn't recommend Highgate Lodge to anyone. My father has had a dreadful time here and has been treated abysmally by some of the staff. The management are extremely disorganised and failed to provide him with essential medications several times. Some of the care workers are lovely but it is
clear that they are very overworked and there is a real feeling of apathy amongst the senior staff. There is very little in the way of activities and entertainment and the residents are mostly plonked in front of the TV for the day. There is a garden but it is very neglected which is a real shame as it could be made nice with a little bit of effort. Many of my father's belongings have gone missing and his TV has been dropped but they don't seem to care and have been ignoring my messages. Highgate Lodge is also not very clean. The resident's beds don't get made and the toilets are left dirty.

Our mother was a resident in Crossways (Highgate Lodge) for 18 months. She was in the advanced stages of Mixed Dementia. Her behaviour, because of the dementia were at times very challenging for the staff at the home, but they were unfailing in their care of our mother.
She was always treated with
kindness, patience, dignity and respect. All her physical needs were met with impeccable attention to detail. Outside agencies such as District Nurses, Rapid Response, etc were always called in a timely matter to meet her needs.
The family were always consulted, updated and informed of any changes in her condition and our opinions sought at every stage.
As mother's condition deteriorated over the final few months of her life, every effort was made by the managers and staff to ensure that she was made comfortable and was kept at the home as we had requested.
They ensured that she had a peaceful death and we will always be grateful to all the staff for their support.

My mom has been in respite at Crossways since December 26 2020. When she arrived from hospital, she was confused and withdrawn. With care and patience from the staff and manager, Mom's demeanour quickly improved and she became more relaxed and her confusion cleared. I’d like to thank all the staff and
manager at Crossways for their support and care whilst looking after my mom at Crossways.

When my mother became very ill at the beginning of March 2020 and returned to Crossways from the local hospital. The manager and staff went out of their way to make it possible to stay with her as long as I needed during her last days, even though the lockdown due to covid-19 had begun. For this, I
will be forever grateful.

I enjoy living at Crossways. The staff are really friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I have been here for nearly two years now and it has been good. I feel safe and well looked after by the staff. I love sitting in the garden on hot days.

My mom has been living at Crossways since January 2020. Mom has been exceptionally well looked after by the lovely caring ladies that care for her. I am kept updated on any changes in my mom's health and advised of any issues regarding illness, weight, medication etc. Mom is very happy at Crossways
and has a lovely room overlooking the garden. Residents are given a varied variety of home-cooked food which mom enjoys very much. During lockdown, I haven’t been able to visit mom as I did daily but have been encouraged by the staff to speak to mom either by phone or video call which has helped tremendously. The caring staff always go above and beyond to make mom feel loved and cared for.

My mother had been in this care home for the past 10 months. The home is very friendly and the residents, on the whole, appear to be very happy and are well cared for. The staff are very caring and treat the residents like their own family. I am very happy to have my mother staying there as she is much
more alert and happy since being there.

Dad was really happy to call Crossways home. He had been lonely despite family visits before he moved in. Crossways gave him a supportive environment with staff who really cared for him as a person and lovely friendships with the other residents. He loved his room overlooking the garden and really loved
the home-cooked food. Sadly we lost him to COVID-19 in April. We were obviously upset not to be with him at the end, but we were reassured that he was in the hands of staff who truly cared for and cared about him. I would highly recommend Crossways for its homeliness and caring.

I have lived at Crossways Residential Home for the past five years and I really enjoy it. The staff team are lovely, really friendly and caring, I love to have a laugh and a joke with them. They look after me well and I can always rely on them to help me when I need it. There is regular entertainment
and I really enjoy the singers who come in. The garden is beautiful and I like to sit out during the day when the weather is good and enjoy the outdoors.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.917)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.917) out of 10 for Highgate Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.042 for Highgate Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.042

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highgate Lodge Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 4.8 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
