I cannot praise the staff, the manager, or her deputy enough.
Despite many behavioural challenges from my sister who has mental health illness they treated her with dignity and patience and did their utmost to seek help/work with professionals and family to support her needs.
Although my sister has
now moved on I appreciate how the home went above and beyond for her.
All the staff greet you with a friendly manner and it is lovely to see them caring for the residents. The food was excellent and the home was always clean. We couldn't have asked for any more from any of the team at Shire Oak. Thank you!

I have had a pleasant time here. The staff is wonderful, very caring and always looking after me. Making me laugh, feel at home and always listen to what I have to say. I cannot get better help elsewhere. The love I have got here I have never had. The best care workers you could ever find. Cannot express
in words, all are the best of the best.

My father has been at Shire Oak for a few months now. The staff are incredibly kind and work extremely hard to ensure that residents are happy and receive the very best of care.
The rooms are clean and bright and there is a good choice of food. The residents are encouraged to participate in a range
of activities, which are stimulating and fun!
We would definitely recommend Shire Oak.

My mother has been at Shire Oak for nearly 12 months.
She seems very settled and happy. She has dementia and is comforted by the staff being there 24 hours. The staff are excellent, very caring and welcoming to the rest of the family. The home is clean and the decor, although tired, is being updated.
I am happy with the care my mother receives, as she is happy.

My father-in-law has been at Shire Oak House for over a year. The home is reasonably small so all residents are well taken care of. My father-in-law is happy at Shire Oak. Above all the staff are outstanding, they are kind, caring and truly love all the residents, the biggest asset for any care home.

We had the heartbreaking decision to put Mom into full-time care. As she’s living with dementia this seemed perfect. How wrong we were! Just because she didn’t want to be kept in her room constantly she became frustrated and wouldn’t comply to their rules. She was constantly sent to A&E with no escort
and if you suffer from dementia this is devastating. On her third trip, we decided to move her to an EMI unit that could cope. To our amazement, this was ‘supposed’ to be one. No way! Please, please if your relative suffers from dementia this is not the place. It’s taken me 8 months to write this as it’s been so upsetting. But wow, wow! Having moved her she’s back to her usual happy cheery self. Dancing, singing and loving her music, which was an issue here.

Reply from Steve Brookes, Manager at Shire Oak House

We are sorry to hear that you and your Mum were unhappy with the care at Shire Oak. Unfortunately, at the time of your Mum's admission we were in the middle of the pandemic and there were strict rules about new admissions to care homes which included isolating for 14 days and also for the whole service to isolate during any Covid outbreak. Sadly, many residents were subject to this degree of isolation. We do acknowledge that these were difficult times for people living with dementia, but our hands were tied by external rules and regulations that were imposed on the care sector. Hospital admissions were particularly upsetting times for both residents, relatives and staff as the ambulance service and the NHS would not permit any escort to go in an ambulances or attend A&E. Once again, we apologise for any upset to your Mum, you and your family members and we are delighted that she is thriving in her new home.

Very happy to recommend this lovely place to anyone needing care. My mom was in here for 6-days following shoulder replacement. All of the staff she encountered were brilliant; she couldn't praise them enough.

Shire Oak House is fantastic, the staff and manager are well on the ball and extremely proactive in the daily running of this home. Nothing is too much trouble and if they are busy they always find time for the residents. The gardens are beautiful and provide relaxation in the summer with lovely trees
surrounding. I would certainly recommend this home.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.516)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.516) out of 10 for Shire Oak House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.716 for Shire Oak House is calculated as follows: ( (69 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.716

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shire Oak House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
