Unable to comment fully on experience due to Covid restrictions. Not being able to enter the building except for visiting room.
Mom seems to have settled quite quickly and seems to be happy with the care she is receiving.
Any queries we have had have been addressed promptly by the staff.

This is the 1st time my father has had to go to a home for respite, there was no real-time to plan as he went in due to his wife going to hospital as an emergency. Staff were friendly and supportive especially as visiting was restricted due to covid. For my father, the fact the home has strong church
links was a great comfort to him. He is a very proud man and the staff ensured his dignity was always maintained. While there, he informed me he felt very at ease and care staff were very knowledgeable and always happy to help him. There were social activities for him to take part in if he wanted to. Management were very efficient and kept us updated throughout his stay. Although this seemed like a very uneasy time for my dad the whole experience and stay was made easier by the excellent care he received.

My mother has been at Engelberg now for 6 weeks. Due to the Corona Virus pandemic, she spent the first two weeks in quarantine; she has subsequently moved into her own room. Although Mom's been in the home a relatively short period of time, it's become clear that the care and attention she is receiving
currently is very good to outstanding. Obviously, Mom's had to make adjustments following what, for many, is undoubtedly a big upheaval, but it's clear she is now beginning to settle in really well. The staff are both friendly and afford residents a good deal of respect. The organised daily activities are a revelation and superb. Both my bother and I like to have 'hands-on' involvement with Mom's care and, to this end, are in contact with the home regularly. I feel we have a very good relationship with the management and staff, any issues raised being dealt with immediately and in a professional and friendly manner. I rate Engelberg very highly.

My very elderly uncle, who had been living independently with no apparent health problems, fell ill in the summer, during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was apparent that he could not continue living alone, but we, his relatives, were not familiar with any local care homes, nor were we able to inspect any,
as they were all closed to visitors. I am so thankful that a neighbour of my Uncle recommended Engelberg in the warmest terms and that the home had a room available. The admission process was handled swiftly, without fuss, and my uncle has settled in well. He loves the food and, although a shy and retiring man, joins in all the activities. He is full of praise for the kindness of the staff, whom I also find to be genuinely concerned for my uncle’s welfare and willing to answer, fully and openly, any questions I may have.

My mum has been at Engelberg for 6 years and has always been happy and well looked after. The staff are friendly and caring and it has really helped my mum that there is continuity of staffing with many long-serving staff who have got to know her well. This applies to all of the team, not just the care
staff but also for example: kitchen staff coming out to ask residents if they enjoyed their food; maintenance staff helping with issues with TV, phone & broadband; cleaning staff being friendly and helping with things in the room. The kitchenette is useful for entertaining visitors and it means I can bring food for us to share when I visit. My mum enjoys the extensive schedule of activities and the numerous seasonal and commemorative events throughout the year, such as the recent street party for VE Day. Engelberg is always welcoming to family and friends and communicates well with relatives including regular relatives meetings to give information and listen to feedback.

Mum moved into Engelberg just before COVID lockdown happened in March and I can not praise the staff for their care, dedication and compassion that they have given to both the residents and their families during this difficult time. They have continued with activities, introduced social media and video
links to ensure that we are always able to be in contact and most recently organising garden visits for us. Mum is extremely happy here, all her needs are always met, nothing is too much trouble. Very caring staff and I am kept fully informed of everything. I would certainly recommend Engelberg.

My aunt has settled very well at the home and tells us she is quite happy - although still misses her own flat as you would expect. She has a nice bedroom with a garden view, similar to the flat she left. The staff were very welcoming and have looked after her very well and are always encouraging her
to join in activities that she enjoys. Due to COVID-19 we have been unable to visit regularly but when we telephone the staff are always very helpful and have allowed us to see my aunt through the window or at a distance in the garden.
She always tells us the food is very good and is coming down to eat in the dining room and looks better for regular meals.
Overall we are happy with the care she is receiving.

My mother has been a resident at Engelberg since October 2018. At all times she has been extremely well looked after. The care from all the staff during lockdown has been exceptional. Not only have they cared for her physical needs but also her emotional ones too. They have ensured that I have been
regularly informed about her welfare and the genuine care I receive whenever I telephone has given me peace of mind that mom is still receiving the best care she can have.
Activities have continued, albeit differently, and the regular postings on FaceBook have enabled the whole family to know about her daily life. I would, and have, recommended Engelberg to anyone - a truly caring community that treats all with the respect they deserve regardless of their physical or mental health.

In our opinion, the care of the residents at Engelberg has always been very good, but all of the staff should be commended for how they have coped in the extremely difficult situation created by Covid-19. Despite the terrible problems the virus has created and illness among staff and residents, the
care has continued to be exemplary. Every attempt has been made to keep relatives in touch with their loved ones and communication from the home to relatives has also been good. Recent arrangements to create safe opportunities for relatives to visit the residents in the garden has been extremely well organised with the safety of everyone being paramount.

Dad has been well looked after since he became a resident last November. In these difficult times, I know he is safe and shielded from all that's going on around the home, which I know he would find it impossible to deal with. Staff are always pleasant when I visit or phone and show a lot of compassion
towards Dad. He really enjoys his meals and staff encourage him to contribute to activities through his love of singing.

My father has been in Engelberg for 8-months, and I cannot praise the care he has received more highly. The staff are caring, dedicated, professional and compassionate. Particularly in the last few months with the Covid 19 outbreak, they have gone above the duty of care both physically and emotionally
to keep both residents and staff safe and well and maintain they're well being.
Increased use of social media through video links and the Facebook site have kept residents and relatives in touch with each other. Increased craft/activities have been provided while relatives have been unable to visit. More recently a gazebo was set up for socially distanced garden visits. The home quickly put measures in place for sanitising and socially distancing. They also initiated testing before the government made this freely possible.
On a personal level, the staff took up my father’s trousers, arranged a video message for my brother’s birthday and arranged tea in his room so he could watch tennis.

Engelberg has a friendly, homely atmosphere, rooms are clean and comfortable. Meals are varied and well cooked and nicely presented with always a choice of menu. Staff are caring and always find time to listen to you and share a laugh (or tear!), and most important, residents are not regimented!

Mum had to go into a home after a fall. My expectations were that Mum's last years would be tolerable. Engelberg has surpassed my dreams. Mum has settled in quickly and enjoys the activities and comfort. The gardens are well laid out with lots of seating to enjoy the sunshine. The staff are friendly
