Beechwood is a thriving care home full of activity, which has a warm, family feel the moment you walk through the door.

Not only do the team provide residential and dementia care, they also offer pre-bookable respite care breaks. These are ideal for carers who might need a short break themselves, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

The enormous gardens are the perfect spot for residents to enjoy growing their own fruit, vegetables and herbs, which is then used in the kitchen, where the chef creates delicious home-cooked meals.

During the summer, the team supported residents to create their own personalised garden plots and window boxes, where they have grown everything from flowers and beetroot to tomatoes. And the gardens are perfect for when ponies from the local riding stables pop in.

The team are passionate about enriching the lives of their residents and supporting them to have a very active role in how their home is run. Beechwood’s resident ambassadors provide feedback at residents’ and relatives’ meetings and welcome potential residents, spending time answering any questions they or their loved ones might have.

The local community is embraced into life at Beechwood. Local nursery children, community volunteers, a singing group, Gina’s exercise class and Malvern Community Library are all regulars. Animal visits are also popular, with everything from therapy dogs to reptiles!

Every Friday people from the Upton community join the residents for coffee and cake (11am- 2pm).

A hairdresser visits for weekly appointments in the home’s salon, and there is a large lounge, as well as smaller lounge areas and a conservatory to spend time with family and friends, who are welcome at any time. And families can also see what the residents have been enjoying doing on the home’s private Facebook page.

The teams of staff have been really supportive for my mum and family. It is so hard to have to make the decision to put your loved ones in any home but I am so happy that my mum is kept happy, safe and well.

Coronavirus lockdown, thus far, has been handled well at Beechwood Residential Care Home. We've been kept informed of changes during lockdown by the staff, able to speak to my sister regularly on the telephone and, latterly, arranged a garden visit which was very well organised and appreciated. Thank
you to all the staff for their hard work in caring for the residents and keeping them safe during the lockdown.

Mum has enjoyed her time at Beechwood, which has been due to the care given by the staff at the home. The facilities are good. Thinking about the future it would be nice to see Mum in a room with better furniture and bed lining. Looks very dated and of poor quality.

We cannot speak highly enough of Beechwood. The Manager and her staff are the best, especially through this very stressful trying time. They have kept everyone well and free from the virus. They have done so well. My Aunt has been going off her food somewhat so they are going above and beyond coaxing
her with her favorite foods, also milkshakes with extra cream or icecream in. She loves them. She is a very lucky lady to have gone to Beechwood and we feel very lucky also that she is there.

I visited my father for the first time since he moved into a care home. I was delighted with the help he and I received, with talking to each other in the garden. It was a great relief to all members of his family to see him happy and safe. Also to see first hand the excellent support he is getting.

The care home and staff are friendly and professional. After searching many homes this one was always a favourite because of their friendly and attentive manner and homely setup. They give confidence that the resident is incapable and safe hands. They have kept me informed and been there to talk and

My friend has been a resident for approximately 6 months and has received excellent care. The staff are wonderful, very supportive, hard-working and understanding. In some areas, they do need extra help because of the needs of the residents in their care. The activities arranged are very good and the
staff concerned work hard, encouraging the residents to get together. He has a very pleasant room, complete with television and views of the lovely grounds outside. He loves the food and there is always plenty to choose from I would certainly recommend Beechwood.

I am so pleased to have found Beechwood Residential Care Home for my mum who has sense memory loss and poor vision amongst other ailments. She initially went for a respite stay but has now decided to become a permanent resident. Every member of staff that I have met and I cannot praise them enough.
The home itself is light, bright, airy and very clean. The meals are lovely full marks to the brilliant catering staff. Mum's room is not overly big but is clean and tidy and overlooks the garden. The only downside is that the rooms do not have en-suite toilets.

My mother has been a resident for 18 months and has dementia which has been a bit challenging at times. The dedication of staff and management has been excellent.
Loving care is at the heart of Beechwood.
It isn't posh and rooms are not ensuite but it is the care and respect that matters.

Mum has severe dementia with other problems and was cared for within the family up to late April 2019. Mum's needs are complex and she has had 1to1 attention. The manager at the home reassured us they could cope with mum and would look after her well.
I have now got to know most of the staff, who
I find to be very caring and helpful. It has been difficult initially for mum to cope but the home is getting used to her and we have had frequent contact to settle her.
The doctors' surgery for Beechwood provided excellent support and communication with us. They are very welcoming of guests and I feel comfortable visiting any time. The garden is safe and wonderful and a wildlife haven. I like to sit in the garden with her. The four small units are interlinked and residents can wander freely between. Had Sunday lunch in the Conservatory and food and catering staff are lovely. The tall chef is constantly walking between the Units to talk with staff or residents. Staff welcome you with a smile on their faces.

Small and very friendly home. All on the ground floor with easy access to the gardens for residents. The staff are very caring and do all they can to make Beechwood a happy place to live. The food is excellent, with residents getting a choice to meet their preferences.

We have been very happy with the care and dedication of the staff and carers at Beechwood in Upton upon Severn.

- Manager brilliant. As are senior staff.
- Agency staff? Not good enough.
- Care staff should work on the same unit to give continuity with residents.
- Rooms need to be improved. Bigger and ensuite.
- More encouragement required from carers to residents,
- Although activities are present, haven't
actually seen any taking place.
- Should be two staff on each unit - not one.

We always have the correct number of staff on duty to care for our residents and have successfully recruited some fantastic new permanent staff to our team who are settling in really well. We are often complimented on the wide range of activities that our activities team provides, some of which are more personalised one-to-one sessions in people’s bedrooms, which might be why they are not always visible. We rotate staff around the home to ensure they have the best knowledge of our residents and their needs, but in our dementia unit, we keep the same staff to give that extra sense of reassurance and continuity. If you would like to discuss any concerns with me in person, I would be more than happy to speak to you.”

Sadly my mother died on 1st July, but she lived at Beechwood for 2.5 years. During that time she was generously loved and cared for and fully accepted for who she was. We chose Beechwood not for its elegance or luxury (though it is very adequately comfortable), but for the quality of care. We were not
disappointed. She was unable to take part in many of the activities but the programme was very good. Though there were a few management changes and a bit of staff turnover, the care still shone through.

My mother came here in August 2017 having spent 2 years in another home elsewhere.
The family has been more than satisfied from the very beginning, including preliminary visits.
The Alzheimer unit staff have such a good understanding of the care needs and their kindness and consideration is impressive.
The
whole ethos of the home appears to be geared towards ensuring the residents are comfortable and content and all levels of staff join in to contribute to a caring and friendly atmosphere.
