  • Cedar Lodge Care Home, Evesham
Cedar Lodge is a small, family-run home nestled in the tranquil village of Offenham.

The home is a cosy establishment. It welcomes individuals over the age of 65 and caters for a maximum of 20 residents. These small numbers allow for Cedar Lodge to offer the very best one-to-one residential care. Every person who moves in is welcomed by the same warm, homely atmosphere – with committed, caring staff and a band of likeminded fellow residents who love to socialise and have fun. Comfy chairs, hearty meals and smiley faces.

Named after the grand cedar tree which adorns the home’s front lawn, Cedar Lodge is a genteel, period property. Residents enjoy being at the very heart of the village. It’s not unusual to see residents taking advantage of their central location by walking to the nearby shop for their morning paper. Cedar Lodge was once a distinguished hotel (counting Lord of the Rings author JRR Tolkien amongst its guests). While the Lodge has since refashioned into the care home today, a relaxed, country-house vibe remains.

Over the past five years, Cedar Lodge has worked hard to renovate its facilities while harnessing the home’s charming period features. The home boasts two lounges – an ornate Georgian salon (ideal for taking tea!) and a more informal living room that’s a hubbub of activity. Big windows ensure the home’s interior is always bright and airy. Patio doors open out onto a secure, sunny terrace with bistro-style furniture that’s ideal for summer lounging. The home’s bedrooms are spacious and tastefully decorated. Each room comes with en-suite facilities and a flat screen TV as standard.

The care team are all local to the area, with many having worked at Cedar Lodge for 10+ years. They are well trained and invested in the wellbeing of every resident. It’s home policy never to use agency staff either. Meaning each resident is cared for by a familiar face, who knows their needs inside out.

I have had a lovely time here. A few bad times (example packing my clothes too early).

Reply from Mark Widdows, Director at Cedar Lodge Care Home

Thank you so much for your review, we have loved having you here the past few weeks and you're settling in well... but, as for packing your clothes too quickly, do not worry we will arrange for you to get some more and bulk out your summer wardrobe.
Kind regards, Rupert

We visited on 13th July. It was fantastic. We sat in the garden, and it was very sunny. The garden was clean and beautiful, and the flowers were lovely. The staff were all friendly, attentive and very welcoming. I feel happy my nan is at Cedar Lodge as they really look after their residents. Everyone
was friendly and happy and always smiling. The tea and cakes were gorgeous.

Lovely welcoming homely residential care home. Staff are fantastic with the residents who they look after with the utmost care and treat all the residents with respect and never patronise them. Staff always have a joke with my Dad and he absolutely loves the banter. Can't recommend Cedar Lodge highly
enough. Thank you for taking such good care of my Dad.

For 5 weeks, we visited our auntie who was in temporary respite care at Cedar Lodge. During our visits, we noticed how the overall level of care and attention to our aunt and all the other residents was what I can only describe as outstanding. A beautifully maintained home with a fresh and lovely atmosphere
that raised spirits throughout. I can thoroughly recommend Cedar Lodge to anyone considering a stay here and would like to thank the management and the team for looking after our aunt and all the extra effort they go to. Outstanding.

I have found Cedar Lodge Care Home a pleasant place for my mother to live. Staff are accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them. A light, airy atmosphere for my mum to enjoy. My mum's every need is catered for in a professional and helpful manner.

My aunt is very happy here and is very well cared for. The staff are lovely, friendly and approachable. The rooms are of a good standard containing personal items which my aunt brought with her when she moved in, to make her feel more at home. Sometimes it is difficult for the residents to get attention
of the staff and perhaps a call bell system may be beneficial.

Reply from Mark Widdows, Proprietor at Cedar Lodge Care Home

I would like thank you for your review and can confirm that having purchased the home only recently we are focusing on all areas that can improve the facilities and lives of those at Cedar Lodge and in fact have already booked to have all the call bells in the home upgraded to those with remote leads, which are due for fitting next Wednesday 13th April.

Rupert & Victoria

Job Title: Care Home Managers

Rupert and Victoria are brother and sister. Together, they manage Cedar Lodge.

Rupert took over the business in 2015, having gained prior experience in various roles across the care sector for several years.

He can often be found around Cedar Lodge doing all sorts of DIY for our residents. Recarpeting, painting, flat-pack furniture; there’s no job too big or too small to which Rupert won’t lend a hand.

Rupert also spends a lot of time focussing on each resident’s mental wellbeing.

He has a degree from the Centre of Applied Dementia Studies at Bradford University. The University is one of the UK’s leading research centres for the study of Dementia. Their person-centred approach to care is what forms the foundation for all our activities here at Cedar Lodge. It is something which Rupert, Victoria and all the staff feel really passionate about.

Victoria joined the family business 3 years ago, after working for many years in hospitality. She’s a real people person. You’ll usually find her chatting with residents, liaising with families or arranging our residents’ visits to their doctors, dentists and opticians.

Both Rupert and Victoria hold an NVQ Level 5 in Health & Social Care.

If you come to Cedar Lodge, you’ll notice pretty quickly how Rupert and Victoria love a care plan. For at Cedar Lodge, you are a person – not a number. We’re honoured by every person who decides to make Cedar Lodge home. Rupert, Victoria and all the care team will try their absolute best to ensure your individual needs are met.

Sue has been a well-loved member of the Cedar Lodge team since 2013.

However, her career spans much longer. This year, she’ll be celebrating an amazing 30 years in care!

Over that time, Sue has made a real difference to individuals all over Worcestershire. She worked first in domiciliary care: supporting people at home so they could continue to live independently. She then built up valuable care experience in residential homes throughout the county, before moving to Cedar Lodge 7 years ago.

Sue is our triple threat: she cooks, cleans and cares par excellence. She is also trained in giving insulin to our diabetic residents and in dressing bandages.

However, most people know Sue for the delicious pancakes she makes for our residents every Sunday morning. Her topping of choice is Nutella.

At Cedar Lodge, we work hard to create an environment that’s lovely not only for our residents, but also for our staff. We believe this is the reason why we enjoy such a low turnover of staff. And happy staff give the best possible care.

Anita is testament to this. She holds the record for our longest serving staff member at Cedar Lodge.

For twenty years, Anita has cooked, cleaned and cared for every individual who calls Cedar Lodge home. And as any of them will tell you, she brings the same cheery smile and wicked sense of humour with her to work every day.

Nowadays, Anita is mostly found cooking up a storm in Cedar Lodge’s kitchen. Her roast chicken is fabulous - we all look forward to it each Wednesday.
