With a long-serving team, who embrace the loved ones of residents into life at the home, Heathlands has a warm, family feel.

The team have just launched their new Allard Respite Suite. This beautiful suite has eight bedrooms for respite care breaks, which unlike anywhere else locally, can be pre-booked up to six months in advance. The bedrooms have ensuite wet rooms, there is a lounge and dining area to enjoy activities and delicious home-cooking, and a private garden. So, if you are caring for a relative and need to book some time for yourself, the team are there to provide your loved one with care and companionship.

The team follow Sanctuary Care’s Enriching Lives Framework, based on the six senses people need to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, purpose, significance and security. They are passionate about residents having an active role to play in the running of the home. The resident ambassadors love providing feedback to the team, and even help to interview potential staff.

There is always something going on at Heathlands – from animal therapy, visits from local nursery and school children, art and crafts and live music, to trips out into the community. There is also a hair salon for weekly visits from a mobile hairdresser, who has been coming to the home for years.

And Heathlands is very much part of the local community – hosting a monthly carers’ afternoon tea (last Monday of each month from 2pm to 4pm). There are also regular visits from work experience students and other volunteers.

The home’s gardens are a lovely spot to relax with family and friends, who are welcome at any time, and have a summer house and wheelchair friendly pathways.

The bedrooms are spacious, with ensuite wet rooms. There are cosy, welcoming lounges and residents enjoy delicious, home-cooked meals in the dining rooms, as well as freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea.

Staff are kind and friendly to all residents and visitors, there is a homely atmosphere. Food is good and plentiful. I would like to see more use make of the garden and a wider range of activities with more that appeal to male residents, e.g. sport related.

My sister moved to Heathlands about 2 months ago and each time I visit I have been impressed by the warmth, friendliness, helpfulness and efficiency of each staff member I have met, whatever may be their area of work. I also commend the range of activities offered.

Like all residents in the home when you are greeted, I wanted to go home. But when friends arrive they are very happy with the situation all around. What I like is I am on first name terms with the staff and the manager who I can speak to at any time. Staff help pull patients out of depressive moods
which is very helpful. What I do like is the interchangeability with different sections, hence staff get to know patients, by first names and location and the flexibility. On the whole, this home is run efficiently with very little problems on our part.

Continue to be pleased with the standard of care my mother receives.
However difficult the circumstances, the carers always deal with the situation in a caring and remarkably patient manner.
My mother's needs are always met and she is treated as an individual with her own needs, preferences and problems.
The home and my mother's room are always clean and tidy. Food prepared to a high standard - plenty of choice.

My mother has been living in Heathlands for a year and a half now and she is settled and happy there.
The atmosphere is friendly and caring and the staff have a really caring attitude and endless patience with her - and that includes all the staff.
Now 98 years old, the dementia has wiped out most
of her memory now, but I know she is safe and secure at Heathlands.
My thanks to everyone working there.

Heathlands is a very good care home with friendly, caring staff who, at all levels, create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for residents and their friends and families alike.
It is comforting to know Mum is being so well looked after and we are well informed of her condition and any incidents or problems

My mum went to Heathlands from hospital for some respite care. It made me realise that care homes can be safe, caring and kind. Mum settled quickly and clearly felt safe.
She said that the staff were nice and it did her a lot of good spending these 5 weeks in there.
My only criticism might be that
a particular radio station was playing in the living room sometimes and I felt that was more for the staff than the patients.

My sister has been resident in Heathlands since the 28th September and has settled in well with the help of the staff. In January, she had minor medical problems and a nasty chest infection. The staff were very attentive and supportive and there has been no hesitation to call the doctor. This has meant
staying in her room and taking meals there to aid her recovery. I am very pleased with the help she has received throughout this very difficult period.

I have stayed at Heathlands for respite now for a long time. I came just over a year ago on a regular basis and I have just started coming back after an operation, my recovery was very slow but now I am so pleased. All the staff are lovely always very happy to help you, they always do regular checks
to make sure you are happy or need any help.


I would recommend Heathlands very highly to anybody young or elderly. It's so spotless here. Beautiful gardens. The staff are always smiling and happy it's a care home I would love to live in or any of my relatives or friends. Absolutely fantatsic. I would love to thank the all the staff and management for all the care they give me.

My sister has been a resident at Heathlands Residential Care Home since 28th September and is still settling in. When I first enquired for accommodation for my sister, I was impressed by the feel of the home. The reception area is bright, welcoming and clean as were the corridors and rooms leading off.
They are being refurbished at present with little distraction to the residents. My sister is happy and appreciates all the help she receives from the carers who are cheerful and helpful at all times especially in the light my sister really enjoys her early morning cup of tea. There are many activities for the residents to suit all tastes and my sister enjoys.

Both my parents have been in Heathlands Residential Care Home for three years, until my father's death in March 2016. My mother continues to live there. The end of life care was excellent and the staff were all so helpful and empathetic to the family when dad died. My mother is very content and enjoys
all the activities as well as mixing freely with other residents when she wishes. My parents were fortunate to have inter-connecting rooms so they could always be together (very important after 70+ years of marriage). The only very minor thing is the number of times that laundered clothes get put in the wrong rooms even though the system is virtually foolproof.

The care home is a clean and safe place for my mother. The carers that attend her are empathetic and lovely but sometimes feel that more staff should be on duty, in mums unit their needs are more needy at 2/8 residents, it's not always enough. The activities for the whole care home is serviced by 1
person, 4 units with about 60 residents. Quite a few, mum being one, needs one to one activity on a regular basis. This is how it was sold to me! I sometimes feel that management let the carers down by not supporting them at all times. Sometimes there is too much sitting around and not enough interaction with the residents. Management are more concerned with running the place to a budget. Residents need more going on to get them interacting. Having said that the carers do look after mum.

We pride ourselves on spending quality time with our residents so always make sure that we have a higher staff ratio to enable us to achieve this. Our dedicated activities leader spends time delivering activities to our residents across the home and in addition, supports our care staff so that they can carry out activities in their units on a one-to-one and group basis. Caring for our residents and supporting my dedicated team are of paramount importance. I do have to spend time running our home in a practical sense, but I balance this with spending quality time with our residents and my team - and my door is always open to them and to loved ones if you would like to discuss anything further with me.
