I had been looking for a care home for my mum who suffers with dementia for several months and had visited numerous properties, but I knew straight away at my initial visit to Mill House that I had eventually found the right one for her. Everything about this home is perfect for mum. The food is excellent,
the range of events and activities outstanding and the staff are amazing, not only caring for the residents but their relatives as well. The home has a professional and genuinely friendly welcoming feel no matter what time you visit.
Mum has made some lovely friends among the residents and it’s a joy to see her interacting with them and to know she is happy. When I have to leave it is such a relief to know she is safe and well looked after and I know that if the staff did have any concerns then they would always contact me straight away.
In 2017 it was rated as ‘outstanding’ and those standards haven’t changed in my eyes, so don’t be put off by the current CQC rating.

My wife has been a resident for almost eight years; in that time she has received the best care we could wish for, in spite of staff changes, inevitable over that time in this profession. We have in general never felt she was in any danger and she has had a caring, considerate and very friendly relationship
with the staff. They have indeed been approachable and a source of comfort for me as well as my wife.
The latest CQC report does not reflect my nor my wife's experience, and I do take issue with its conclusions, which I consider to be misleading.

The recent CQC rating needs to be ignored; it cannot be more wrong.
My mother is a relatively new resident, but within a matter of weeks, Mum was settled, happy and back to her old self.
The care the staff show is outstanding. The whole atmosphere of The Mill House is happy, friendly and loving,
and it's comforting to know Mum is in such a nice environment.
If anyone is looking for a #1 home for their loved one look no further - this is the place!

I cannot praise The Mill House highly enough for the care and welfare of my mother. She is always happy when we visit and is clearly content in her surroundings. All of the staff that I have met are professional and cheery, whatever time of the week I visit. In addition, I am always informed of any
changes/concerns they may have concerning my mother. This is the second care home that she has been in and I can honestly say that we have found the perfect place for her.

The Mill House is a dementia care home and has cared for my mother for many years. I cannot speak highly enough of this outstanding establishment. From the day my mother went into the care home, to date, we as a family have never had a single cause of complaint in the fantastic care and support provided
for not only my mother, but for us as family members as well. They have met her forever changing needs over the years, providing a tailored care package covering her personal and dietary needs. The care and support given to my mother from every member of staff is with kindness and empathy. She is always treated with dignity and respect, and her safeguarding is paramount.
The care home has freshly made food daily with the addition of morning and afternoon drinks and snacks. They provide a variety of daily activities for the residents to take part in, and all this is provided within a clean and safe environment.
Highly recommend for total peace of mind in care and support.

I am highly surprised by the rating of Requires Improvement but that perhaps says more about the CQC than the home. Mill House is a wonderful environment for its residents. Also, it is in a lovely setting in rural Worcestershire. The staff are marvelous, engaged and informative and the home feels safe
and accommodating. I think what impresses me most about the home is that they care for the family of the residents as much as the residents themselves. For example, upon birthdays and anniversaries, the staff always go the extra mile to make it an occasion. The other thing that impresses me is the quality of communication with the family. I am always kept up to date with all things affecting my mother-in-law. I cannot speak highly enough of Mill House and what is really great is that I feel I can trust its staff and rest easy that knowing she is cared for even when we are not about.

My mother has recently moved to Mill House. Having advanced Alzheimer's while still being fully mobile, we had struggled to find a care home that would accept her. Mill House welcomed her into their home in an extremely friendly and professional manner. My mother's behaviour is challenging at times
but nothing is too much trouble for the staff. The home has been thoughtfully furnished to meet the needs of dementia residents with stimulation and interaction built into everyday life. The staff are extremely caring and very knowledgeable, knowing exactly when to step in and help and when to step back. I cannot rate Mill House highly enough, the whole team are wonderful.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.156)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.156) out of 10 for The Mill House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.850 for The Mill House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.85

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.306 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Mill House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 31 registered maximum number of service users is 6.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.2 = 0.806

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Rebecca Pleaden (known as Bec) and I’m the deputy manager at The Mill House Care Home.
I started working at here in 2012; joining the team as a Care Assistant. The Mill House have supported me with my CQF’s and progression throughout my career. I have previously left and worked in other care settings however the grass is NOT greener, and I soon missed The Mill House and their family run values.
I am a bubbly, sociable person who is passionate about making a difference to people and their lives. I am immensely proud of the Home I am a part of and the team in which I work alongside.
