My mother was placed temporarily in the care home after a period in hospital whilst being assessed for a return to her home. I was anxious that she would be unhappy at not being able to return straight home. However, on visiting her several times I was reassured that she was being very well looked after
and was enjoying the experience. I have met many members of staff at Holy Cross and all were friendly, attentive and hard-working. There is a friendly atmosphere in the home, the food is good and many enjoyable events for the residents are put on.

My Aunt needed respite for a month and I phoned around a number of settings. I immediately was impressed with the Manager, whose attitude was professional and caring. She was supportive and said that she would firstly ensure by speaking to the GP, that she could address my Aunts needs. She was prompt
in doing that and accepted my Aunt. My Aunt who is a fierce critic said that she thought that the care and the food was excellent. Most importantly, if she needed care again, she would go back there again, which I think is the best review a setting can receive.

My mother has now been a resident at Holy Cross for exactly a year. She is very happy there. I see her several times a week and it is clear that she is well looked after.
The general atmosphere at the home is sunny and positive. The staff are friendly and upbeat. The manager is very easy to talk to
and is extremely competent.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Holy Cross to anyone and everyone. It is in my view first class and extremely good value for money.

Extremely pleased with most aspects of the home. Staff are kind, considerate and knowledgeable about individuals. There is always someone to listen to any issues or worries relatives may have. Carers show empathy and patience even when under time pressures and great demand. Good range of activities.
Would like to see 'easy' availability of books/games/art, maybe on a trolley system. Love to see bowls of fruit and flowers which they all seem to like. Some upset over items of named clothing going astray in the laundry.

Thank you so much for taking the time to complete a review for us! Thank you for your kind words, we always try to make our home a friendly and approachable environment. Just so you are aware, there are books available in our blue lounge as part of our mini library, these are readily available to anybody. Regarding laundry, we are working on this and are currently running a name tag system where we can order the name tags for you - so that we can ensure a more efficient system. Please inform the main office if you require name tags.
Thanks again!

It has been my experience that all members of staff have always been friendly and approachable. They are always available to discuss any concerns that crop up from time to time. In addition, there is now an annual formal review in which my brother and I are invited to a one to one meeting with the manager,
where a two way exchange of views and information can take place. We found this very positive. Most importantly our mother is happy at Holy Cross and feels secure in her surroundings.

Very caring staff with great leadership.
I am kept well informed about my mother's health. Holy Cross represents very good value but above all it is the quality of the staff that matters and the care they give. No complaints whatsoever.
A few more activities would be nice.

Thank you so much for your lovely review, we really appreciate it. Our ethos here at the Holy Cross is to make sure everybody is loved and well looked after. Rest assured we have activities every day for those who are interested in our lounges upstairs and down, and have many singers and arts and crafts booked in by our activities coordinator, for any more info on this please come and have a chat with us in the main office where we can show you some of the lovely things we book in for our residents.
Thank you!

I am very pleased with the care provided for my mother and previously my father until he passed away. The staff are very friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble.
More use of the outside space in summer would be good but I know it is difficult to persuade the resident to go outside.

My mother has been at Holy Cross Care Home for three years and has been content ever since she arrived. The staff have always been kind, patient and professional.
The building and decor is admittedly dated but it is always clean.
Personally I feel happy and relieved in the knowledge that my mother
is cared for by the manager and the team.

My mother has been at Holy Cross for nearly 3 years. It is a wonderful home with caring staff and management. She is treated with dignity and respect, mixed with a lot of laughter and love. I couldn't wish for any more for my Mum. I also feel Holy Cross has become a part of our lives too. Thank you
from the bottom of my heart for everything that you all do.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.909)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.909) out of 10 for Holy Cross Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.609 for Holy Cross Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (16 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.609

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.3 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Holy Cross Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.175

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
