We cannot thank the staff and management team enough for their care and support of my mum before her passing.
The support for the family throughout her stay and after her passing was also amazing.
They genuinely care for the residents and their families and we couldn't have chosen a better place.
Thank
you from the bottom of our hearts.

My mum spent a very happy 14 months at Abacus Care Home before passing away in June. The home is bright and clean. But what makes this home special is the manager and all the staff. They are supportive and friendly, always go the extra mile with their care and support for their residents. The entertainment
is first-rate.
I'd like to thank everyone at the home for making Mum's final months comfortable and dignified.
Thank you so much for everything.

Abacus House is a friendly and caring home. The staff are very welcoming to visitors. There are a lot of activities for the residents i.e bingo, jigsaws, colouring, crosswords, puzzles, music to mention but a few. My mother is very happy here and that is what puts families at ease. The food and snacks
and special treats they do are fab.
They have Chinese meals, cheese and biscuit nights, and often have a live singer.

Although my father is not happy about being in a care home he always smiles and starts talking to whichever carer greets us when we take him back after trips out. He doesn't know that he is unable to look after himself alone, but I am very happy that he is looked after 24 hours per day which he really
does need.

Abacus Care Home is very clean. The staff, care assistants, cooks and cleaners are very friendly, polite and in my opinion, give 100% dedication to the residents. I've gone in at different times of the day and the atmosphere is always the same. I would highly recommend Abacus to anyone who needs care.
The food is always good and well-presented.

Reply from Nicola Hubbard, Registered Manager at Abacus Care Home

Thank you so much for your incredible review. I am so happy that we have met all your expectations from us. It is also nice that you have mentioned our housekeepers and cooks too, as they often get overlooked but are just as much part of the team as the care staff are. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

Mum-in-law has been at Abacus Care Home for seven months. We visit regularly and have seen on numerous occasions how the Abacus team interact with the residents in their care. They are always courteous and respectful and attentive to residents needs. Importantly they have a sense of humour. Mum-in-law
is always clean and comfortable and her room is also kept clean and fresh.

My Dad has dementia and needed respite care due to my mum being totally worn out as my Dad doesn't sleep well. I suggested to my mum, sister and brother that Abacus House house looked good and I had heard good reports so we arranged for him to have a weeks respite all the staff were really nice it is
kept well no smells like some nursing homes. I would definitely recommend Abacus to anyone who is looking. My Dad will definitely be visiting again soon.

Reply from Dily Sadhra, Director at Abacus Care Home

Resident focused care, ensuring residents are encouraged to make decisions for themselves and encouraged to be involved in the resident-focused care and freedom of choice.
Relatives are encouraged to engage with the home staff and have open door access to discuss any issues or concerns of their loved
ones.
Care staff are thoughtful, caring, show empathy to the residents and maintain the resident's privacy and dignity.
Care staff and management are professional at all times and I would not hesitate to recommend this care home to others.

Abacus is very dementia friendly and the manager is very knowledgeable about dementia/Alzheimer's.
The staff are friendly, caring and hard working.
My dad has been at Abacus for 3 and a half years now and seems quite happy and content.
There is entertainment every week for the residents and the entertainment
manager always arranges something special for occasions such as Easter, Mother's/Father's Day, Christmas etc. I am very pleased with the care home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.399)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.399) out of 10 for Abacus Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.699 for Abacus Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (61 Excellents x 5) + (19 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.699

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abacus Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
