Barrowhill Hall provides nursing and dementia care in a peaceful location which offers extensive views of the surrounding Derbyshire and Staffordshire countryside. The home provides high-quality care in a homely and welcoming environment.

With two independent care households, Barrowhill Hall provides both early stage residential dementia care through to nursing dementia care. The design of each household, Churnet Lodge and Barrowhill Hall, is influenced by the innovative Stirling Academy guidance which aims to enhance the living environment for those living with dementia and memory loss.

Residents have access to a range of living space and facilities, including large and quieter lounges, film rooms, a library, spa and hairdresser.

Bedrooms are finished to a high standard and offer en-suite accommodation. Couples can also be accommodated for in a studio with a private lounge.

Residents can also spend time outdoors tending to the gardens or simply enjoying a drink with friends on the terrace while appreciating the far-reaching views of the local countryside.

Barrowhill Hall is a multi-award winning home and reached the 2016 National Finals for the Dementia Care Awards in the category of Best Interior Dementia Design and was a finalist in the 2017 Care Home Awards for Best Architecture and Interior Design.

We researched and visited many local nursing homes, and Barrowhill Hall was definitely the most suitable for our aunt. Initially, the low CQC rating (December 2019) put us off, but a visit changed our perception. Relatively expensive. But far better rooms, facilities, staff and management than other
care homes.

Mum spent the last six years of her life at Barrowhill Hall. She was treated with love, dignity, respect and professionalism throughout and her changing needs were recognised and met as her condition deteriorated. We could not have looked after her better ourselves.
I recommend BH unreservedly. As
a relative, you are warmly welcomed as part of the family and know that your loved one is well cared for.

My Mum was accessed and admitted to the home after a sudden decline in her condition. She was admitted onto the EMI Nursing Unit with quite bad challenging behaviour. I feel that they have managed her behaviour well and she seems to be less challenging, due to them managing her medication. It was and
is a very hard time for us and my Mum, but feel reassured that she is safe and well cared for.

This is a fantastic place where my mother recently received excellent care. Residents are treated with care, compassion, patience and kindness. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is amazing, rooms and bedding are clean and fresh. The open living spaces are great and the gardens are

First impression, clean, professionally run, well staffed a lot of one to one care particularly at meal times. Does need access to gardens. Having had my next of kin resident for respite care since 22nd January 2019 I have found Barrowhill Hall nursing home to provide a superb service. Excellent food, all prepared and cooked on the premises. The staff - both nurses/carers and office staff, are all approachable and friendly. The premises
are kept really clean. The care given to my resident has been very good and his health has improved significantly since being at Barrowhill Hall and I always find him clean and tidy. Some kind of method of keeping relatives updated on residents' progress would be useful as they are often busy when visiting but otherwise I cannot fault the home or the staff. I have had unsatisfactory experiences of other homes.

The home was excellent and my husband settled very well for his two weeks respite. We were welcomed by extremely caring staff and the atmosphere was always cheerful. The openness of all the areas, where residents were moving around as they wished with help from staff if required, was very encouraging
to me as my husband enjoyed moving to different areas, mainly to admire the view. I would not hesitate to use the home again.

We were extremely pleased with the respite care mum received. Mum was very happy there too. The food was excellent. The laundry was all there when I collected mum and was beautifully washed and ironed. We would definitely use this home again.

My mother became a resident in November 2018 and whilst it took a few weeks to settle in, she is now generally very content. The staff are lovely and helped her to settle in. One staff member in particular, is wonderful with mother.
Although the Lodge at the home does sometimes seem short staffed.

My father has been a resident for three years and last year moving into Church Lodge, a dedicated new building for dementia residents.
The home is very well furnished with exceptional en-suite bedrooms (with double beds).
The care staff and management team are a credit to the home. They always keep
me informed of any changes in my father and action to be taken.

It is my mother's first experience of a nursing/care home and it is proving to be an excellent one.
At age 98, blind and recovering from a hip operation, she receives a high level of nursing/care and this is met by experienced staff with a caring attitude.
Special mention should be made of the choice
and high standard of the food.

Mum has been at Barrowhill Hall since October 2017. She always looks very happy and content. Her appearance clean and smart as she would like to be.
Her anxiety has reduced and looks very much at home, 24hr care by caring positive people around her has helped enormously. Bright, airy surroundings in
comfy clean and environment. There are lots of activities to keep residents amused. All in all a lovely place for her to live.

In the two years that my mum has been a resident at Barrowhill Hall, she has continued to thrive. I have been impressed by the level of care, in particular, the way my mum is treated as a person despite having dementia. The term 'carer' most definitely applies to the staff who really do care. Mum was
taken to Blackpool last September on an overnight trip with a number of other residents, which is something she loved and will never forget.

As a family, we have been more than satisfied with the support and care offered by the staff to my mum and to us as a family.
The atmosphere has always been most welcoming, open and hospitable despite the severe difficulties presented to them by my mother.
Other positives include the cleanliness,
sensitivity to residents' needs and most importantly the amazing sense of humour displayed by the staff.
My brother and I were impressed when we first walked into the home.
We have not been disappointed.

Dania Meadows

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Mrs Dania Meadows manages the home, an experienced care home manager and Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). Dania oversees the day-to-day running, liaising with GPs, Community Psychiatric Nurses, Mental Health Assessors, Dietitians and other visiting professionals. She also chairs regular resident family meetings. Dania also ensures the home complies with all the latest regulations and that staff are equipped with the latest technology and trained to the highest level.


Geoff

Geoff Aris

Job Title: Business Development Manager.

Joined: 2012

Geoff is Barrowhill Hall's Business Development Manager.
He oversees all of our assessments, that being he visits people in their homes or place of care at the time and carries out thorough assessments to establish whether the person is suited to living with us and ensuring we can meet the persons care needs. He also works closely with our manager Matthew to ensure we are maintaining high levels of care for our residents while all the time remaining compliant with our regulators.
Geoff only began working in the care sector 5 years ago after he ‘retired’ from three decades as a corporate accountant. He has since earned a degree in ‘Dementia Studies’ from the prestigious Bradford University. He was inspired to study the condition in his late 60s after watching his mum, Ivy, deal with memory problems towards the end of her life.
Outside of Barrowhill Hall Geoff is very active in the local village of Rocester. He has served on the board of the Church and the commissioners. However, he enjoys nothing more than spending time with his wife.

“It's hard to describe a typical day at Barrowhill for me as every single day is different, you have to react to what is going on. But generally, I attend the morning meeting with all the heads of department, produce daily reports to Head Office and it’s my job to do the induction training for new staff.


“My favourite part of Barrowhill has to be the views. They really are spectacular, especially the walk down to Churnet Lodge from the main building. The view simply takes your breath away, it has to be seen to be believed!


“I hope that when families visit their loved ones they leave Barrowhill knowing that their relatives are being well cared for and they are happy and safe.


“I’ve worked here for just over five years now. Before that, I worked in the construction industry for more than 20 years.


"When the company I worked for closed and I was made redundant, I felt it would be nice to work in a different field and the people here make it a much more interesting place to work.


“I can be quite a sensitive soul, so the best piece of advice I've been given is from my dad and that's "Don't take it personally!"


“Outside of work I like walking, baking cakes and like most women I like to go shopping!


“I’m from Ashbourne where I still live with my husband. We’re lucky as all of our close family live nearby. Perhaps it’s because I come from Derbyshire and not Staffordshire that I don't like oatcakes!”

Alfa and Omega of all the actions and positive reactions in Barrowhill Hall. Shez is the One to go to. The Lady Behind the Desk and the Brain behind daily organisation and movements within The Home. She is not only going to answer your phone call or welcome you politely in the reception area with her smiley face. She is a multitalented individual covering administrative duties and is a constant support to our management team. She is The Beginning and The End.

Alison is Churnet Lodge Lead, Safeguard Lead, Senior Senior, and a carer.


She is our Guide when it comes to safeguarding, following the procedures and undertaking actions which are in the best interests of our residents. Alison also writes care plans and motivates people around her to do more every single day so our residents can be immaculate. Alison is a book of Knowledge when it comes to caring and BHH won a lottery in 2013 having her as a member of our Team since then.
