Although it has been a difficult time the last 18 months, the manager and staff have done their utmost to keep the residents safe and relatives informed. When visits were allowed they organised appointments for relatives to visit. My mother has been in Florence House for 2 years and in March my father
had to join her. The manager and staff are always friendly and efficient in these difficult circumstances. They treat the residents as if they are relatives of their own families. We, as a family have always have great faith in the staff at Florence House.

Visited Mum today and held her hand for the first time in over a year. Re-Covid, the whole visit worked well, all the staff are fantastic, each one giving me little bits of information re both Mum and Dad, which gives me great comfort. Managed to see the new flooring in the dining room and lounge through
the window; it looks great. Nice to see at these difficult times, improvements being made!

I can't praise the manager and staff team enough for keeping my nan safe during these uncertain times. I have every confidence that my nan is being well looked after and the staff team always contacts me if there are changes. I speak to her regularly on the phone or by video call which has put my mind
at ease. I have made a window visit as well and the staff were so welcoming and friendly.

I am so happy to have my husband in this particular care home. I knew nothing of what to look for in a care home but instinctively I have a feel when I walk in a place and Florence House was right immediately. The Manager was so welcoming and helpful and, indeed, listened to my sorrows on a few occasions.
Leaving my husband was very difficult after caring for him myself for many years. Not only are the staff wonderful with the residents but are so compassionate with the family concerned. They were very sympathetic to the challenges that were facing me. My husband is looked after very well in a homely atmosphere and I have spent many hours there watching how they deal with all residents. Their work is very challenging at times but their training comes through and resolves any problems which arise. The food is made on the premises and is very good. After a few problems with the laundry with mixed clothes arriving in my husband's room, I realised his clothes needed identification.

The staff are always friendly and try to be accommodating. Dad's room is nice and he is encouraged to make it homely. More outside space would suit my father as he feels a little penned in but I realise it is not easy to make outside space secure.

The care of my mother in law has been very good and overall my husband and I are very satisfied with the care his mum receives. It is a warm and friendly atmosphere where residents are treated as individuals, with dignity and respect. My only issue is that she rarely seems to be wearing the clothes
that we have bought her. I appreciate the difficulties associated with this client group and the need for management changes but despite other reminders to staff to purchase additional clothing, this has not happened and she seems to wear others clothes.

After being the main carer of my mum for the last 10 years, I and the rest of the family were heartbroken when she needed to go into a care home but we are so glad that we chose Florence House. She has settled in really well and because we all live near-by she has a visitor every day. As a frequent
visitor, I am always welcomed. The staff here are lovely and very caring, I have seen them deal with lots of situations some of which must be challenging and difficult but everyone is treated with care and respect. Good home cooked food and a home from home atmosphere.

Mum has been here for over three years. Care has been excellent in that time. Staff are very friendly and know her really well. Management and admin also very approachable. Mum was initially very active and she would join in with staff doing little chores which made her very happy. She has slowed down

I came to Florence House when I could no longer live in the community. The staff are lovely and I get everything I need. The food is excellent and the staff look after me really well. I have a large room, and a lovely view out of my window. We have activities 7 days a week, and we go out regularly to
local museums, places of interest and even the pub for lunch.
This was the best move I made, as I can't praise the staff enough for their care and patience shown, not only to me, but to the other residents too. Thank you to all.

My mother went into Florence House for respite care on December 3rd 2016. Initially, my thoughts were mixed as to what this would achieve and also how my mother would react and also how she would be treated. Six weeks on and her stay has become permanent. She is safe, well looked after and happy. The
staff are kind and attentive and also loving towards the residents. I would recommend Florence House to anyone looking for dementia care for a loved one.

The staff are always smiling, helpful and approachable. Residents appear happy and content to be there and are always treated with respect and dignity. All of the staff muck in and help out where needed.


Always some sort of activity going on within the home and residents are also taken to outside

activities as well.


All in all a great place to be!!!! My mind is at ease knowing that once I have visited my loved one they are in great hands after I have left!!!

Mum is very happy at the home, she has a nice big room and has definitely improved since being here. She is much more mobile than she was at home and has recently begun to communicate more than she has for years, obviously the activities have helped with this as she has told me a little bit about them.
I am happy that she is in a good place where I don't have to worry that she is taken care of. Thank you!

Julie Peksen

Job Title: Registered Manager

Our registered Manager is Julie Peksen


Julie started her career in retail and moved into the Health and Social Care sector where she has worked for over 25 years. Julie initially supported people with Learning Disabilities and then moved to a resettlement service working with people who have more complex needs including physical and learning disabilities, She worked her way to become a senior and then got a position as a manager supporting people within the community care services where she managed 3 different services at the same time.


Julie has also had the experience of setting up a service aimed at transition-aged individuals supporting them in their own homes to be independent. This service was expanded with Julie’s oversight to include another home which included mental health and learning disabilities.


Julie has her RMA Level 4 qualification and has ensured all her training is up to date so she has the current knowledge required. Julie has more recently transferred her vast experience and skillsets within the care sector to residential care where she has managed Florence House for the past two years within Safe Harbor.


Julie has an open door policy with a leadership style of nurturing and supporting staff to extend skills and knowledge but also support personal growth. Julie empowers staff, relatives and residents to access what they need and adapts services to meet changing needs and aspirations of all.


Julie would describe herself as having a calm approach and finding solutions to any challenge that she is faced with. She feels this calm approach supports residents and staff to receive what they need and wish.
