This is the fourth year my Mother has been cared for in The Grange. I have nothing but high praise for the staff team and management. Over the past 12 months Mum's been rapidly deteriorating with Alzheimer's desease and often presents with many challengingly behaviours which require specialist care
and support. Staff at the Grange have been exemplary in all they do to ensure she's well looked after, her medical needs being professionally handled and her emotional behaviours sensitively handled. During some difficult times when Mum's struggled with the ravages of Alzheimer's, the kindness of carers, especially those who are in the management team, has astounded me and I've been moved to tears by their determination to do the very best for her. During my weekly visits over the years the family atmosphere and caring ethos has been remarkably balanced with fun, warmth and friendship. I've only ever heard kind words and supportive encouragement for all residents. I can't thank you enough.

The Grange care home provides a happy, homely and safe environment for all of the residents, together with excellent caring staff and management.
The staff go above and beyond for any special occasion, be it a resident’s birthday, anniversary, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day etc and especially at Christmas.
My
husband has been a resident at The Grange for the past 8 months, and knowing that he is cared for, and cared about, in a place where he is happy, contented and safe gives me a great deal of comfort.

My friend's mum, a lovely lady I’m privileged to know, has been a resident at The Grange for 2 years. During this time she has received truly excellent professional care. My friend is regularly updated on any changes in her mum’s situation and staff always share anecdotes when we visit, something which
is valued and so important to those who are suddenly parted from loved ones. All the staff at The Grange should be congratulated for having created such a friendly and caring environment. They all play such a vital role in the lives of their residents but unfortunately, that is rarely acknowledged.
The Grange constantly provides its absolute best for all their residents and I give them all a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for their care and affection and their constant willingness to ‘go the extra mile’. It is so reassuring knowing the lady we love so much is in such safe and caring hands. Please know that your ongoing dedication, care and kindness are seen and appreciated by my friend and me.

Having been unhappy with the care at a local home of my nan, who suffered from both dementia and a very strong case of Parkinson's disease, we decided to try The Grange, based on their excellent local reputation.
All I can say is wow. The commitment and dedication every single member of staff has here,
to improve and ensure their resident's happiness and functionality is almost unheard of.
Within a matter of days, the difference in both mood, appearance and capability of my nan was obvious, gone were the days of sadness, and sorrow which unfortunately we'd seen due to dementia and Parkinson's, but now more so thoughts of yesteryear and big smiles daily.
I will forever remember the amazing moments we were able to share with Nan in her final months and that is in no part a coincidence that they occurred at this wonderful home. I can honestly say, ever since she began her residency, not only did she improve, but she was truly happy again.
Thank you so much to all of you.

My dad has dementia and has been a resident at The Grange for a year now. It is a lovely, caring home away from home for him. His needs are always met and the staff are very patient, personable and always professional. It is clear they all know the residents well and every time I visit I am reassured
to know that he is being loved in the way you would wish any family member to be looked after. The staff go above and beyond to make all the residents happy as well as accommodate any wishes of their family. I would not hesitate in recommending The Grange to anyone.

My husband, who has dementia, has been a resident at The Grange for almost a year. He settled quickly into the home, as a result of the excellent care all the staff have shown. In the past year, he has become much happier and relaxed than he was prior to coming to the Grange. The Grange offers an excellent
range of activities for the residents, the food is great, and nothing is too much trouble. We recently celebrated our golden wedding, and The Grange staff put on a really lovely party for us both and our family. The decision to find residential care for my husband was very distressing, but I am confident that this was the right decision and that The Grange is providing him with all the love and care which I was no longer able to provide. I am very grateful for the excellent care they offer.

There have been serious failings which I have raised as a safeguarding issue with the Council and the CQC.
My father had a ruptured hernia in October 2022 and called me as he could not get a carer to attend to him during the night when he was vomiting and in pain. My calls to the Grange went unanswered.
My brother found him with soiled bedsheets at the foot of his bed, cold and in pain later that day, still waiting for an ambulance. My father nearly died.
In April 2023, my father was punched by a male resident. This was reported by the Grange to my brother. We have a photo of the bruising. The Care Manager subsequently attempted to cover up this incident and repeatedly urged us to take my father out of their care home if we were dissatisfied with their care.
In May 2023, a female resident claimed my father slapped her which he denied. Later she physically attacked him and he verbally threatened her in return. The Grange served my father with notice and we have re-homed him.

I would like to express how I think this review is completely unjustified and variations of the events are very different from The Grange's point of view and the complaints being made are inconsistent. This reply is to make sure other lovely reviews, fantastic reports and wonderful track record is not tarnished by one opinion. Investigatory bodies notified have investigated thoroughly and none of the claims made have been proven. Safeguarding's were raised appropriately and we advocated for your father in the time he spent with us and indeed I urged you to find 'better care' if you were dissatisfied. I urged numerous times since your concerns have been raised to contact me directly and meet face to face as I have never met you in person. You had felt comfortable on many occasions for your father to remain in our care and were offered to discuss with me at any time. It now seems that the only form of contact you feel is appropriate is to leave negative, unjustified reviews on this platform.

What a lovely, happy place The Grange is. My mother has been here for 18 months and the staff have created a warm and loving bond with her.
When I visit and it’s time for me to leave I know she is in very good hands which is a great comfort.
Thank you all for going above and beyond the call of duty
and for creating a homely and safe environment - with lots of great activities too - including visits from therapy animals and local children.

Nothing caring about this ‘care’ home. Seen things in this home that follow you for life and make you think what really goes on behind closed doors. Staff are not caring. Concerns do not get dealt with. Toilets are filthy. Residents are not looked after well at all. I would not recommend sending anyone
here.

Reply from Karen Lynas, Finance Director at The Grange

This review is wholly inaccurate. Our Operations Director personally met with the family to discuss any issues and gave them her contact details if they wanted to contact her.

Another member of the family contacted our Administration office once the Resident had moved out and stated she had no issue with the care given or the home and completely disagreed with their opinions on the home.

My impressions of The Grange
As a frequent visitor to The Grange, to meet a dear friend, I am always greatly impressed by the cleanliness and atmosphere of this exemplary care home. Residents are secure, respected and valued by efficient and caring staff who work exceptionally hard. Client care, comfort
and personal dignity feature prominently in the list of priorities at The Grange! One cannot fail to see impressive and ongoing good practice delivered by a dedicated team who are led by a responsible and very committed Management Team.
Each and every Resident is addressed in a friendly, caring manner and always by name. A wide range of stimulating social activities is arranged and The Grange is always nicely decorated on special occasions, recently Halloween. Visitors are always warmly received and functions involving the wider community prove a really worthwhile innovation. A recent consignment of new chairs in the Residents' Lounge help to make this spacious area attractive, inviting and relaxing.
My friend's room is spacious and comfortable, and it is a joy to sit and chat here, in the Lounge or in the Dining Room where excellent and nutritious meals are brought to the Residents at their tables. I have been privileged to share lunch on several occasions. Writing as one who enjoys a good meal I've never been disappointed. I wish to thank and warmly congratulate the entire team at The Grange. You are inspirational!

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.263)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.263) out of 10 for The Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.563 for The Grange is calculated as follows: ( (79 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.563

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Grange is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
