On visiting Mum, staff are always very friendly and approachable. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Mum is always very comfortable and generally appears happy and settled. Mum's wishes are taken into account and no pressure is put on her to do anything she is not comfortable with.

Our mother has been a resident for some years now and is very happy living where she calls "home". She has capacity to live a happy and healthy life which she has always been encouraged to do by the wonderful staff.
She enjoys being independent as far as possible and any help she does require is given
with care and consideration.
At all times, my sister and I, who live at a great distance from Mum and cannot visit frequently, are always welcomed warmly. We are kept in touch with Mum's health and well-being on a regular basis, which is supportive and reassuring. We feel part of the team/family.
Mum finds her surroundings warm, comfortable and convenient but it is the staff who make her feel safe and happy. She also enjoys access to the garden area, when the weather permits, and being taken out for a walk to the village shop or joining in with a local knit and knatter group. She is well-supervised and enjoys the opportunity to talk to others.

Mum has lived at The Old Vicarage Residential Home for over two years and is very happy. She has dementia and the staff treat her in a professional, caring and respectful manner. As her family, we have complete peace of mind knowing that she is warm, well-fed and groomed and never lonely.

We are very happy with the care Mum is getting. It is a very caring place to live, and the staff go all out to see to her needs and requests. We have peace of mind now, knowing she is safe and well cared for.
We feel that because it is a relatively small home with only 15 residents, they get more
one-to-one attention. She is quite confused most of the time due to her condition, but that is well understood by the staff, who strive to reassure her concerns and worries.
She is a person who likes her own company and, therefore, likes to be in her own room, but does, however, spend some time with others in the lounge and dining room.
Overall, we could not be more satisfied.

My mother has been a resident of The Old Vicarage Residential Home for several years now. She celebrated a milestone birthday there in 2021. With the consistent care of the staff of The Old Vicarage, she continues to thrive. In February 2023 an article appeared in a newspaper about people of 100 years
and more in which my mother was featured. The staff facilitated the phone interview with the journalist and have read the resulting article to her. My mother has a sense of pride in her life’s achievements, with a strong emphasis on helping others.
The staff of The Old Vicarage Residential Home play an increasingly important role in my mother’s care for which I am most grateful. Because I live overseas, the regular phone contact with my mother which involves a staff member assisting my mother with the phone each time I call has been invaluable. The staff always treat my mother with dignity, kindness and an appreciation that The Old Vicarage is truly her home.

From the moment my mum moved to The Old Vicarage I was very pleased with and reassured by the standard of care she received from day one.
The staff were amazing going out of their way to make Mum feel cared for and loved.
The food was always very good and varied. My wife and I were invited to have
Sunday lunch with Mum and found the experience and food to be truly excellent.
In early December 2022 my mum's health deteriorated and the staff were outstanding in their care and comfort of my mum in the last weeks before her passing. But also the support and kindness they showed to myself and my family during this difficult and very sad time was outstanding.
I would recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone wanting their relative to be loved and cared for.

My darling mum lived at the old vicarage for almost two years before she passed away in October 2022. I cannot fault the care and attention that she received from all the team including care staff, cooks and cleaners, who are led by a very professional and caring manager.
I visited Mum on a regular
basis and Mum always spoke about the carers in a positive way, she commented that they were lovely to her. Mum had a good appetite and although the home provided a nutritious delicious hot dinner and pudding every day she wanted hot food at tea time, it was never a problem there was always a choice and toasted cheese was frequently served to Mum which she loved!
In the last few weeks of her life, Mum deteriorated significantly, I was worried as Mum required more care during this time, the team really stepped up and with minimal support from the district nurses they met Mum's needs with compassion and professionalism and I will always be grateful to the manager and her team.

I am very happy with the care my friend has received since she moved into this The Old Vicarage Residential Home. She always looks clean and tidy and she tells me that the staff are all very kind. The care home manager is quick to respond to any questions or concerns that I have, and I am always welcomed
when I visit.

My mum moved into The Old Vicarage in May 2022 following a stroke when she was unable to manage in her own home. We as a family were quite worried about this - however, we were soon reassured and Mum settled in very well within two weeks. It is a lovely friendly environment, being quite a small residence
one feels the personal touch.
Mum is very happy living there. She constantly tells me how well she is looked after and reports that meals are delicious. It has been a weight off our minds knowing she is happy and well looked after. The staff and manager are always available for a discussion and are very approachable. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Old Vicarage to anyone looking for a warm and welcoming home.

From first selecting The Old Vicarage for my uncle, we have felt highly confident that all his needs were continuously being met and regularly being assessed with interaction with the family and the senior care staff. Even during COVID, the home kept the family updated, which at times, must have been
stressful for the staff and difficult for the residents to understand, but there was always a regular update. At the times when we were allowed to visit, taking all COVID precautions, we were made welcome and always given privacy to talk. The room was always warm and clean and we were satisfied and grateful that our uncle was in the best possible place. From the cleaners to the manager, we congratulate you.

Reply from Robbie Sookoo, Director at The Old Vicarage Residential Home

Bill, it goes without saying that we treat and consider our residents and their relatives, as part of the Old Vicarage family. I'm glad that we were able to look after your uncle as he brought joy and laughter to our home. Your kind comments are really appreciated.

The Old Vicarage is run in a manner that is very personalised to the resident. The manager is most approachable and knows her residents and their needs really well, and she strives to ensure those needs are met as best as possible. The staff are always pleasant and friendly, and very patient towards
my mother. My mother became unable to live independently during COVID lockdowns and yet the manager made arrangements to ensure her admission safely and with little to no trauma for my mother. I have every confidence in the health and safety regime at The Old Vicarage and am forever really grateful for the care that my mother receives there. I recommend The Old Vicarage for its homely care and I have great confidence in the systems and protocols that are in place.

Mum has been at The Old Vicarage for the last two months. During this time she has had enormous change, the most important being the loss of her husband and rock of over 66 years last month. We encouraged mum to make this enormous transition with many concerns. Mum had been diagnosed with Vascular Dementia
over five years ago and her happiness, safety, and quality of life were my father's, my sister's, and my concern. Having cared for mum at our home for several weeks after my father’s broken hip it became obvious it was not the way forward. My mother is now safe, well looked after, and cared for at the highest level. Despite everything I have no hesitation in saying she is now truly happy. She talks about The Vicarage as being ‘Home’. All I can say to the management and staff is ‘thank you’.

My dear friend had been at the home for over six years until she passed away earlier this month. Since the new owners have been there, many improvements have taken place including redecoration. The home has a friendly atmosphere and the staff are very caring. My friend was always treated with great
professionalism and dignity. Each time her needs changed, the staff went out of their way to accommodate them and make her feel comfortable. Even when she wasn't too well, they could always make her smile. We were made welcome each time we went to visit and kept informed of any changes in her health. I am sure anyone thinking of their relative coming to stay here would be very pleased and reassured of an excellent standard of care.

We had to put my dad into The Vicarage for a week in June for respite to give my mum a well-needed rest to recuperate. It was the first time we have done this and as a family, we felt so guilty and unsure but my goodness, we really need not have been. The staff are fantastic, they took the time out
to spend time with Dad, chatting with him, sitting with him and just generally looking after his every need and explained everything that was going on with him. They even gave us some ideas to help not only Dad, but us with his dementia. They honestly are worth their weight in gold and I cannot praise them enough. If we have to have more respite in the future, then I know we will be looking at getting him booked into here again. Thank you, thank you, thank you to each and every one of the staff.

The care staff looks after my mother wonderfully well in the six years she was in the home. I used to visit my mother with my wife fortnightly and the staff made us feel very welcome, offering refreshments each time we visited and answering any questions about my mother's well being and progress with
honesty and sympathy.

What a fabulous place! This is a home in every sense of the word. The manager is always there for a word regarding Mum. She has looked after Mum, and us, every step of the way. Mum is very happy here, and we are very happy that she is too! All the staff have been happy to help.
Thank you for all you

This residential home is a home you are treated with a great deal of respect for the residents. It’s a small home so you get the one to one care and nothing is too much trouble. The staff and management are very caring and treat the residents with care. The food is very nutritional with so much variety
the activities they provide are varied. As a family we feel very relaxed with our family member being looked after at The Old Vicarage, we know they are in a safe environment and are looked after with dignity.

My mother-in-law died recently after spending almost three years in The Old Vicarage. She had dementia and her moods could swing from kind and interested to very unpleasant and selfish. At all times, the staff treated her with patience, understanding and kindness. She was comfortable, well feed and
always clean. Whilst the building is, I think, Victorian, it is always clean and smells fresh. The staff are welcoming and helpful.

My mother has been a resident since early 2014 and we have seen a few changes over the years. Her dementia was mild at the start but she has become more vague in the last 18 months and needs more reassurance, which she gets from the staff. I am pleased that The Old Vicarage has started to make significant
improvements to a tired building and things are moving apace, with new windows and re-decoration to many areas. The staff are caring and kind and because this is a small home, it is very friendly and intimate with staff and family knowing each other. I have no hesitation in discussing any minor issues with the owners and senior staff and actions are promptly taken. Adaptations are made to suit my mother's visual needs and assistance is given at mealtimes to ensure that she eats sufficiently. She regularly has her hair done, but have suggested that her finger and toenails are regularly cut and cleaned.

There are many positive aspects of the home, the staff and management.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.272)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.272) out of 10 for The Old Vicarage Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.772 for The Old Vicarage Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (46 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 57 Ratings = 4.772

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old Vicarage Residential Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
