I am very happy with The Beeches Care Home. The staff are amazing - everyone speaks to the residents and relatives alike. They are warm and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The activities are brilliant - there have been so many over the festive period. The food is plentiful, fresh and home-cooked.
I would highly recommend.

My mum was in the beeches from 30 March 2022 to November 2024. The care was good at first, had a great activity lady.
The manager does not listen to your concerns, you had to keep asking for anything to get done. Good carers left because of her, she is ignorant. We started to notice basic care needs
where not being met. If your loved one as dementia this is not the home for them as they can not deal with their agitation. I don't think the carers have had enough training to deal with them.
My mum was given notice, I was so glad as I was looking for another home as we where not happy with the home, its not got a homey feel. If your loved likes to watch tv all day, not much interaction then they will be fine. Sometimes you go in the home, there is not enough staff to keep an eye on the residents especially at weekends as there are a lot of agencies staff at the weekend and they don't know what they are doing. My mum as gone into a nursing home now, the best decision. Avoid if your loved one has dementia

Reply from Kelly Doyle, Marketing and Employee Engagement Manager at The Beeches

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding your mother's stay at The Beeches. We value your input as it helps us improve our services. Your mother joined us on 30 March 2023, in our residential dementia care unit, where she initially engaged well with staff and other residents. However, as dementia is a progressive condition, her care needs evolved, and her behaviours became more complex. To address this, we increased staffing and provided Positive Behavioural Support training to our team. We also recruited new staff and introduced new activities to enhance residents' experiences. Despite our efforts, your mother's care needs exceeded what could be managed in a residential setting and required nursing-level care. As a result, we made the decision to transition her to a nursing care facility for her safety and well-being. This decision was made with the utmost care. We are happy to discuss any further concerns at your convenience. Thank you for trusting us with your mother's care.

My wife with dementia/Alzheimer's is well looked after by all staff. The home might not be the best home in the world but improvements seem to be being made. My wife is happy and all her needs are being met, which is all I can ask for.

Reply from Kelly Doyle, Marketing and Employee Engagement Manager at The Beeches

Thank you for your review. It means a lot to us to know that your wife is well looked after by our staff as we are committed to providing the best care possible. My cousin has been there for nearly six weeks, having spent nearly ten years working for the ambulance service, I have observed staff many times and I was pleased to see some of the staff be so caring and compassionate to residents that I felt I needed to tell them. Well done management and staff at
The Beeches, carry on doing what you do.

When my father came to reside at The Beeches Care Home, we believed his life was going to be a short one with the health issues he was experiencing.
Due to the fantastic care provided, both his physical and mental health has improved dramatically and he has been with you for several years now.
I can
not speak too highly of The Beeches regarding this and the response during Covid was exceptional too. Excellent all around in our opinion.

The manager and all the staff are so caring and nothing is too much trouble. My mum has been in the home since August and has settled in well. She is currently on bed rest, of which the care she receives is brilliant. The manager is very approachable.
I would say to anybody thinking of putting their
relative in The Beeches, do. The entertainment is brilliant.

My mum has been in The Beeches for 21 months now, a lot of things have changed since she came in with new owners and new management and I can honestly say the changes have been for the better. Management is fantastic and if I have any queries, these are dealt with straight away. The staff treat residents
with respect and always interacts with them and it's nice to see the residents with smiles on their faces. The activities coordinator is always making sure the residents are interacting and keeping their minds healthy. She arranges days out for the residents but obviously can only take so many at a time, I tag along and look after Mum. They have bingo, play your cards right, movie afternoons, hair and nail days and they even had a day at The Beeches where it was like being at the seaside. I can't thank the management and staff enough for looking after Mum. The only thing I would suggest is that if the activities coordinator maybe had another person to help with activities and days out.

My mother-in-law has resided at The Beeches for several years, her needs changing considerably. However, due to the knowledge and care given by staff, she continues to be safe and well cared for as well as very content and happy. Staff are amazing and work towards ensuring that all individuals are respected,
encouraged and loved on a daily basis. They ensure that everyone's basic needs are met both as a group and as individuals to provide a safe and happy atmosphere. They are encouraged to engage in the many activities available whilst taking into account individual needs and abilities. Staff are very dedicated and execute their tasks with laughter and smiles despite things being very difficult, sad and emotional at times. They are all approachable making it easy to raise any questions or concerns (despite me being a pain at times). I would recommend the home to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones.

After 3 years in residence, we found the need to raise a safeguarding issue following grave concerns. Within 2 days, we were given 28 days' notice to leave The Beeches as Mum's needs could no longer be met ... alarm bells!

I cannot thank the staff at The Beeches enough for the kind and respectful care that they show.
It is such a relief to know that my husband is being cared for, safe and respected.
The staff encourage interaction as much as possible to maximise stimulation and you can see that the residents benefit.
To know that he is being so well cared for makes such a difference to us as a family.
Thank you!

I only have good words to say about The Beeches and their staff!
Dad is well looked after and all the staff are so caring and respectful.
The activities lady is a legend with the activities and encouraging interaction, particularly since Dad is sometimes reluctant to get involved. He has a soft spot
for her!
He has lots of stimulation and I can't thank all the staff enough for how they treat him.

The food and activities are great and the staff are always there to help. The cleanliness is excellent, I can't thank them enough for the care
and dignity that is shown towards the residents. A happy home.

The staff really do care about the patients or shall we call them residents. For whatever reason the residents are in The Beeches for, they are all treated equally and every effort is done to give the residents the care, respect and that their dignity is upheld. The carers do many activities to stimulate
the residents' minds, they have some great sing songs and it is a pleasure to visit on these occasions. Many of the carers go out of their way, above and beyond their daily duties to bring out the unique characters of the residents and there are a few characters in there who all have their own tale to tell. If you do read this and ever visit a residential care home take a good look at all the different and unique mannerisms and characteristics the residents have and it is great to see how the carers get to know every individual in their care. If and when you visit take the time to have a chat to the residents and see them smile and laugh, their long days shorten with happiness.

When my mother-in-law became a resident at The Beeches, I had my reservations eg had we made the right decision for Mum but they soon were put to one side, the staff are fantastic, very friendly, go above and beyond their roles. They have a variety of activities that keep the residents occupied and
happy. You can often join in many a spontaneous sing-song. The staff encourage the resident's personality to flourish, you soon become a family member to all the residents, one big happy family. The staff are very approachable and you can express any concerns that you may have, ask any questions. They keep you up to date with any decision regarding the home or residents. The staff are very hard-working, happy and very friendly. My findings for The Beeches are the residents come first all the time and nothing is too much for them to do.

I have worked in care myself firstly as an agency worker and now as a full-time care assistant for the past 10 years. As such I have seen a lot of different homes. My mother has Alzheimer's and she is a resident at the Beaches and I can’t fault the staff and care she has received. She is always full
of smiles when I visit and the staff treat her as family, not just a resident. The staff are always willing to answer any questions and actively seek residents' interests and life history. They have regular entertainment and activities along with days out now covid restrictions have eased and the weather has picked up. The way my mother is treated and how well she has settled in has made dealing with all the guilt I felt at the idea of putting her in a home a lot easier to come to terms with. I could not have wished for a better care setting and I’m happy to recommend the Beaches to any and all.

My mum has been at The Beeches for a while now and I have nothing but good things to say. The staff and owners are amazing and have done everything to help my mum since she moved in earlier this year. From what I have seen every resident's welfare comes first and every resident is treated as an individual
and with dignity and respect. The staff work tirelessly to make sure residents are cared for in every possible way. It is sad but my mum will be leaving and I really wish she could stay but she needs 24-hour nursing care now. There is no doubt I will miss everyone. The team at The Beeches have kept our loved ones safe during these strange and difficult times. The staff along with the owners feel like one big family to me. The Beeches isn’t as big as some care homes but sometimes big isn’t always best. It’s a truly lovely place, with a wonderful warm atmosphere, like a home from home and nothing is too much trouble for the amazing and caring team of staff and the homes owners. A big thumbs up from me.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.795)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.795) out of 10 for The Beeches is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.170 for The Beeches is calculated as follows: ( (28 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.17

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.625 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Beeches is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.375

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Megan Tate

Job Title: Registered Manager

I joined The Beeches Care Home and started as a Carer Assistant. It was here that the Manager and Provider asked me if I would like to complete an NVQ Level 3 and begin a Senior Carer role. I completed my NVQ Level 3 in May 2015 and carried out the Senior Carer role until 2016. In 2018, I was afforded the opportunity to become a Head of Care, a role that assists the Manager in the governance of the home. I then went off for maternity leave in August 2018, and after giving birth to my daughter, I was able to bring her to work to introduce her to all of the residents as I feel the residents are my extended family.

In March 2022, Kirkland's Care Ltd became the new provider of the home. Since they have become the providers they have put so much effort, time and training into the home, and have given so much support to all the staff, ensuring they feel confident in any task they undertake. They have been the best company I have worked for regarding training and career progression, they are approachable and friendly, and they can see the potential in you. They have recently enrolled me to complete my Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and offered me the position of Home Manager.

Choosing care as my career is the best decision I have made and I look forward to ensuring a person-centred approach to all the staff and residents. Now I am looking forward to achieving my goal of delivering an outstanding service to The Beeches Care Home…my home from home.

To pay it forward, I would love to support and inspire anyone who chooses a career in care as it’s been an extremely rewarding achievement in my life, and the best thing I ever did.
