Hylands House is situated in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon. Stratford-upon-Avon is set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the River Avon. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Britain, famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare.

Hylands House is a small family-run care home which has been operating since 1987. Hylands House is highly regarded within the local community, providing exceptional care for older people 24 hours a day. They specialise in Dementia, Respite Care, Residential Care and Day Care.

All staff are long-standing and have a true passion for caring for the home’s residents. Staff training is always on the agenda with all members of staff constantly undertaking specialist training throughout the year.

The home has a vibrant programme of activities and entertainment for residents to enjoy, arts and crafts, music therapy and sports therapy, to name a few.
The home has a lounge, quiet room, dining room, conservatory, hairdressers and a beautiful garden. There is ample parking to the rear of the property for visitors.

The communication I’ve had from staff has been outstanding and been wonderful at facilitating contact between my father and I due to the Covid 19 restrictions. I hope soon I will be able to visit and give a more detailed opinion when I can visit my father in the care setting. It’s difficult to give
any opinion on standards without seeing the home.

It has been a difficult year but Mum's carers and other members of staff have kept me up to date with her progress by email and photos. All staff are very quick to get back to me whenever I've made a request. I feel we are working as a team for the best interests of Mum, who has severe dementia, with
all the additional mental health difficulty this brings. I'm very pleased she's in a small home with staff who are well known to her and to me. And that these kindnesses are done as a matter of course.

We had to make a difficult decision for mum to go into a care home recently, but the staff at Hylands House have made her transition so much easier.
The care manager was so welcoming from our first meeting and has provided reassurance, advice and genuine care since then.
The staff are kind, friendly
and caring and I’m sure this is why mum has settled in so well. The communication is excellent and they go out of their way to make sure we are reassured during this difficult time of lockdown. I would like to thank all of the staff for their kindness and for looking after mum. I hope she continues to feel at home there.

Hylands House has provided great care and with the restrictions of covid 19 has coped very well with this. The level of communication is of a high standard and I am always kept well up to date on any changes and/or needs of my family member. Although it would be nice if the gardens were opened up for
visits within government guidelines on social distancing.

The manager has always been very helpful and easy to communicate with, explaining everything in a very intense and unusual situation. Staff are friendly and willing to help in any way they can. Hylands House has given Mum genuine care and attention to help her recover from a UTI which was not diagnosed by her previous Care Home.
Could not have chosen a better home than Hylands House Mum always looks lovely and cared for.

My father was assessed for his suitability for becoming a resident at Hylands House in mid-March 2020. He had Alzheimer's, we were told that Hylands House was an appropriate home for him. We were assured he could stay until the end of his days and that some places would not offer this, but they did.
After only 2 months, we got a call to say that he needed to move as it was an unsuitable home for him! We had to move him in the midst of the Coronavirus lockdown, an extremely traumatic event for us and obviously for him. Three weeks later he died in June 2020. I am furious that Hylands House did not guide us appropriately, we were green to his needs. Their comment on his departure was, he needed a nursing home, not a care home, his health at this stage had not deteriorated, but his Alzheimer's did affect his behaviour as is common. Why did they take him post assessment?

We are sorry for your loss and offer our sincere condolences. At Hylands House we do promote our small care home for individuals to spend the rest of their days with us, however, in some circumstances, this is not in the individual’s best interests. This is mainly due to the needs and behaviours increasing to a level which cannot be met in a residential dementia care home setting. We do not take any decision lightly to move a resident on to another care home and this is only initiated after other avenues of support have been sought, such as working with the multi-disciplinary team. In this circumstance as you are aware, we made every effort for your father to stay with us at Hylands House and his GP was also involved with his care. Unfortunately, even with this added support, due to behaviours of concern the decision was made that we could no longer meet the needs of your father and it was in his best interests to be moved to a suitable care home where he would receive the level of care.

When I enter the home once a week to see my best friend, I'm always made very welcome, staff always seem happy. They always have time for a chat about how my friend is and things in general. They keep the place very clean and tidy and all the residents seem happy too. My friend tells me she is very
happy to be there and she looks well cared for.

My aunt, who has dementia, has been cared for by staff from Hylands House care home since 2017. I have seen them demonstrate great patience with her, even when, on occasions, they had no idea I had just arrived and none was aware that I was just coming into the main living space to see her. All the
residents have dementia and so their mood may change from one minute to the next. But the atmosphere always seems calm at all times. Most of the staff have been there for years so they know the residents very well. This is very reassuring for relatives.

Hylands House is fantastic. The Manager is brilliant and filled us with confidence that Mom would be happy and well cared for there, which she is. They gave us some sound advice, guidance, and support on how to handle Mom’s move and as such, it went perfectly. We couldn’t wish for a better home for
her. The team are friendly and efficient and are always focused on there care and well being of the residents who live there.

After researching dementia care within Stratford upon Avon, for our elderly mother, we settled upon Hylands House. This decision has proved to be the correct one, as we have found the care and attention that she is receiving to be of a very high standard. Whilst the staff are very professional in the
way they approach everything, they are also very personal with the residents which is really good to see and hear. In fact, it is due to the staff that we find it reassuring to leave our mother in their care.

Hylands House has a very friendly family atmosphere. All staff know each resident very well and are sensitive and accommodating to their needs. A lot of the staff have worked there for many years. The new manager, appointed last year, is very approachable, proactive and has regular care reviews with
family members. We can phone or talk to her at any time. Activities are strongly encouraged to promote quality of life. The home is always very clean, staff are brilliant and the food is excellent. Mum has lived there for four years and is very happy there. This is a gem of a care home.

Hylands has been a true home for my mother. I was very reluctant and anxious about placing my mother in care, however, the love and support she has received at Hylands has been truly heartwarming and life-changing. I know she is being well looked after and her needs are being taken care of. She always
speaks highly of the fresh meals and daily activities that clearly keep her happy and busy. It is quite visible the staff take pride in what they do. They are always happy to give updates and genuinely care for the people they look after.

Having visited quite a few residential care homes last year looking for a place for my mother it was our opinion that Hylands had the more homely and welcoming atmosphere of any of the places seen. The staff and management made us feel that my mother would be well cared for and they understood and could

My father has been very well looked after by the home. Last summer a new home manager was appointed who has proved to be a real driving force in improving the overall quality of the home, and therefore Dad's care.
My father is always well presented and his room is spotless. The food is excellent and
there are many long standing carers in the home who are very professional and empathetic.

The carers at Hylands treat the residents with dignity and respect. They are dedicated to the small number of residents and understand how difficult it is for families to handover the care to them. It is tempting to be swayed by the other larger, modern care homes but having used one of these for respite
previously, you become acutely aware that it is the care that is the most important quality and not the decor. This is what shines through at Hylands and the family feel that they all help to create.

As a small home all of the staff know all of the residents well. It has a family atmosphere. Residents are encouraged to be in communal areas to avoid isolation. The relatively new management is innovative and strongly encouraging for all activities to promote quality of life. At the next CQC inspection
I am 100% confident that the part "well led...requires improvement" will change to a good or excellent. Communication with relatives is good. Care reviews happen regularly.
Staff are brilliant at looking after residents with dementia and its associated difficulties. In my father's case he had to leave a previous home, staff at Hylands have no issue with his behaviour.
I would definitely recommend.

I have been working in the care sector for many years and has been the Registered Manager of Hylands House Care Home since November 2018. At Hylands House we offer first class care on a permanent or respite basis, which is delivered by highly trained care staff in a homely comfortable environment. All of our residents are individuals and we treat them with dignity and respect while offering freedom of choice and promote independence as much as possible.
Our chef's prepare three nutritious meals a day and the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce. At Hylands House specialist diets are catered for.
