Mum has been in care at Brookholme for approximately 4 months. The transition from home to residential care is always very difficult but my mum has settled in really well. Even the social worker commented on how well Mum looked when she came to visit her. The staff have always been friendly and kind
and always chat with Mum and even crack the odd joke with her to make her laugh. When she was ill they rang me straight away and were on top of getting Mum a doctor appt quickly, giving me the reassurance that they truly care.
Initially Mum was is a small room as I knew she was only going to be there short term, however, the manager still asked me if Mum would like a bigger room with an en-suite when one became available.
My mum is really well looked after at Brookeholme and I have no doubt whatsoever, that if Mum had to return to residential care, Brookeholme would be my first point of call and at the very top of my list. Thank you so much to an amazing team!

Thank you very much for this feedback. The staff do try very hard to meet the needs of our residents who we consider to be members of our extended family.

Dad was admitted to Brookholme straight from hospital. He has been there 3 weeks now and we are so happy with the quality of care he is receiving. Dad has Alzheimer's and vascular dementia, is immobile and has to be hoisted all the time. There are always lots of carers on hand, who are very supportive
and caring, and he has put on weight. Being in Brookholme full-time now has really lifted the pressure on the family and we can visit him at anytime and spend quality time with him knowing that he is being well looked after.

As a resident on respite care, before moving forward I would like to enlighten my experience here. Staff can't do enough for everyone, I have got involved with all the fun stuff that is put on for the residents as challenging as this may be. Food is good, if not appropriate it is easily altered by the
staff. Always clean. All in all, it is comforting to know that decent people care for others. Would happily come back again (not too soon though as I still have a lot to achieve). Thanks.

Reply from Donna Redman, Home Manager at Brookholme Residential Home

Thank you, Craig, I'm glad to hear you have had such a positive stay with us. The staff really do enjoy what they do and I think this makes a difference in the way that the care is delivered. Good luck in all that you wish to achieve and hope you remain in touch and keep us updated on your journey.

“The start of a beautiful friendship.“
My sister and myself had to move Mum, who is in the early stage of Dementia from another care home, where sadly we felt there were things we weren’t happy with.
My sister reassured me that the care home manager, (who she had known for many years) is such a nice,
kind, professional person.
How right she was!
We moved my mum to Brookholme on Monday of this week.
On arrival, we met so many of the wonderful staff, who I observed are more like friends to the residents than paid carers.
I cannot believe how quickly Mum has settled into Brookholme.
We know for Mum and the Brookholme staff (as the saying goes) “This will be the start of a beautiful friendship.“
Thanks again for all your kindness.

Excellent and caring team with a great manager. Really friendly and welcoming and everyone is treated with care and respect. Time is really taken to engage with all the residents. We visited today and it was lovely to see the residents in the garden meeting Shetland ponies that had come to visit.

Mum went into Brookholme at the age of 99 and settled in straight away. She has been there for fifteen months and I am happy with her care. I am confident that she is safe and well looked after.
Mum is encouraged to join in the daily activities. The care home is very clean and Mum has a lovely bedroom.
Mum has lots of friends at Brookholme, both residents and staff and I now feel they are our Brookholme family. Thank you, Brookholme, for looking after my mum.

Our mother has been at Brookholme now for several years and we have been very happy with her care. She has always enjoyed the food that is freshly prepared in the kitchen and there are always activities for her to choose to join in, or observe. We are confident that she is safe and well looked after
by staff, who are friendly and approachable. There is good communication, when necessary, from the seniors, the manager and the owner. Their responsibility to protect residents and staff during the pandemic was taken very seriously. We cannot thank them enough and their efforts are greatly appreciated. I would recommend Brookholme as a very good care home.

My cousin is in her late 80s and until two years ago lived alone without any help. However, after a series of falls and needing to take many pills, the GP suggested she needed care. My cousin was adamant that she did not want to go into a home!
During Covid, I managed to employ three wonderful carers
to visit my cousin three or four times a day! However, in March 2021 she had a couple of falls at home and they felt she needed full-time care. The last visit to hospital was for over two weeks during which she had two more falls.
She was discharged into Brookholme Residential Home for six weeks of respite care but settled in so well that she has stayed.
I live on the south coast and at first tried to visit her once a fortnight, however, she is so settled that now I visit once a month.
I know that she is well looked after, kept busy and well fed and cared for. I love being able to look at Facebook and see her doing some of the amazing activities that are planned for the residents. She looks happy and well cared for.

My wife moved in to Brookholme in April 2022. She has complex needs in that she has a form of dementia, which has affected her ability to communicate (Primary Progressive Aphasia). Additionally, since a fall in January this year, she has had mobility problems and requires assistance with any transfer
from place to place. This also dictates her personal care needs. I looked at all the residential facilities in the Chesterfield area, took soundings from other service users and researched the CQC reports before making my choice of care home. Brookholme stood out as being the place for my wife. The home was clean, the menus were varied and good, the management and staff were committed and caring. Activities are tailored to the interests and abilities of the residents and are frequently scheduled. I am able to visit as often as I like. My wife is happy and settled and always has a smile for me when I visit.
Above all, she is safe! Which is what matters most to me.

Mum has now been at Brookholme for almost three years. In that time, her mobility has deteriorated and she is much more confused. The care offered never wavers. Mum is treated with kindness and respect and is encouraged to join in whatever activities she can. I can always speak to the staff and know
they would contact me if there were any concerns. This home was a true Godsend and we have been so pleased that Mum came to live here.

Mum moved into Brookholme Residential Home in May this year following a diagnosis of Parkinson's related dementia mum was no longer capable of independent living. Mum's symptoms worsened at great speed which was very hard to come to terms with given the strong intelligent independent woman she had always
been. Once settled into her new home it was comforting for my sister and myself to see that mum seemed happy in her own world and has told us both that the carers are kind and attentive with her, that she is comfortable in her room and enjoys the activities and the food at Brookholme. The manager is very responsive if we have a request or concern and ensures we are kept informed on progress and outcome and the owner has been very understanding regarding the lasting POA process. All in all the team at Brookholme have made this very difficult transition more bearable for which we are greatly appreciative and thank them for the compassion and care mum has and continues to receive.

I only get to see Mum a few times a year, previously due to the pandemic and also living down south, so it is always reassuring when she tells me that she is fine and that she is being well looked after in Brookholme and how kind and wonderful all the staff are. Mum tells me of the various activities
that the home provides, especially during important dates in the calendar such as the Queen's Jubilee and holidays such as Easter and Christmas. Mum tells us that she gets involved in all that is on offer and how much she enjoys them. She always mentions that the food is lovely and what a good choice she has. If I ever need to ask a question the staff are always helpful, friendly and professional. When I do visit, I am always met with a friendly hello and made to feel welcome on arrival. My brother who lives local and is able to visit more often tells me the same and we both have no worries about the care and kindness that the home provides for our mum, keeping her safe and secure.

Brookholme has a lovely caring family atmosphere and Mum was welcomed from the moment she first arrived and really enjoyed her time there.
I cannot fault all the staff they cared for Mum with love, respect and compassion. They also cared for us as a family and kept us up to date if mum wasn't well
or there was a problem.
The staff work hard to come up with imaginative ideas and activities to keep residents entertained and on high days and holidays, the catering matches the occasion, Chinese New Year, St Georges Day etc. On birthdays cakes are baked and decorated to the resident's interest and likes-in Mums case chocolate.
Mum made friends there with both residents and staff as did we (they're our Brookholme family)
Sadly Mum recently passed away. Mum was poorly for a few months and the attention, care, love, respect and compassion Mum received never wavered, this was also extended to us as a family.

Once again a big THANK YOU TO EVERYONE.

During the pandemic, the staff at Brookholme have been first class as ever, and have worked wonders keeping the home virus free. The situation has been made more difficult by guidelines requiring residents to remain in their own rooms, which must be stressful. Nonetheless, spirits have been kept up
by innovations such as the use of a Facebook portal to keep in touch with families (I’ve particularly welcomed this to keep in touch with mum) and continuing the excellent activities as best possible. Thank You to everyone, your efforts are really appreciated!

My mother, aged 99 has been at Brookholme for many years and I cannot fault the care and treatment she has received. My cousin, aged 92 is also in the home and has received every care despite being a more 'difficult' resident than my mother. Despite all the problems of the last few months, I have been
impressed by the care and hard work of the staff and of their kindness to relatives who have not been able to see family for so long.

My relative has only been in this care home so I cannot compare with any other. The care home is clean and comfortable and the staff looks after the needs of a diverse group of people with care and compassion. There are daily activities which the residents are encouraged to take part in and notable
dates/occasions are celebrated. Visitors are welcomed and encouraged.

It is very homelike - not institutional. The carers have a genuine affection for the residents and see them as individuals. There are lots of activities available, and the staff are always looking for ways to improve the residents experiences. There is a family atmosphere.
The staff always have time
to answer questions and to get to know the residents family, involve them if they wish to be active in the care home and their family members care.

The team at Brookholme have looked after my Mum for over 4 years...up to and including her passing earlier this month. They have been absolutely fantastic! Their care, compassion, patience and sheer dedication ensured my Mum spent the last (confused) years of her life in a safe, caring environment with
people who treated her with dignity and respect. What more could anyone wish for?

I am so grateful to every single member of staff who supported my Mum...and me and my family... during the last weeks of her life. Truly exceptional and personal care - thank you!

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.039)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.039) out of 10 for Brookholme Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.914 for Brookholme Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.914

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.125 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Brookholme Residential Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
