My mother-in- law was with the Hawthorns for 19 months. We both can recommend this home wholeheartedly. It is a lovely building with a majestic staircase that hits you when you arrive at the door. The rooms are clean and very well maintained. Lovely furnishings and gardens. Meals are very nice and are
served in a beautiful classy dining room. It is quite intimate with each meal being a social opportunity for its residents. Throughout her time at the Hawthorns our mum was treated with love, respect, dignity and compassion. She was always cleanly dressed. The staff are really wonderful. Very kind respectful, patient and helpful. Management are very approachable, considerate and experienced and ensure the smooth running of this wonderful home. There is some form of entertainment most days. The visits from the nursery school children , the pet visits and the knitting group were all regular favourites She also enjoyed the weekly hairdresser visits.

My father has been a resident at The Hawthorns for the past three years until he passed away in January of this year. The care has been consistently excellent over this period.
The staff always knew where Dad was when I visited (without prior notification of the visit). He often spoke of the kindness
and consideration shown to him and we all appreciated the wonderful team who looked after him.
The physical care with his personal hygiene, his clothes always clean and smart, and his room neat and tidy; and also the emotional care, that he was never lonely, was actively encouraged to join team activities and able to have a chat and a laugh with his friends around him.

The Hawthorns care home was recommended to us 3 and a half years ago by friends, and lucky they did as it was COVID and we were not allowed a visit to check out any care home. My mum was suffering from the onset of dementia at the time and at the point of entering the home she was a bit low and had
spent time isolated. The Care home years were not the end of Mum's life, it was a renewed chapter. They gave her dignity back, the staff involved her, looked after her, they did flower arranging, and displays at Easter, gave her a religious focus, dominoes, and all sorts of activities that stimulated the mind. The staff cared deeply and were extremely considerate of my wife and me whenever we interacted. When Mum was still able to form full sentences, she said how much she liked being there. The building does in part look a little tired but to older people, they may consider it to be "Homely". The thing that really makes it is the staff who are first class.

My Mum was a resident at The Hawthorns for the last 7 years of a very long and happy life and moved there when she was too frail to remain at home. I cannot praise the staff highly enough for the care and compassion she received during her time there. She was - and all residents are - treated as family
and given the respect, love and care they deserve. There is a friendly atmosphere and all the staff are welcoming and approachable. It was reassuring and comforting to know that she was being so well looked after and cared for.

I cannot speak too highly of the care and input my partner receives at The Hawthorns. He is always impeccably turned out in his clothes and personal care. Should there be an accident it is dealt with immediately complete change of clothes and wash. Catering is excellent, all cooked on the premises and
multiple choice which he can choose himself. The Staff are so kind and caring and residents can access a beautiful garden whenever they want. I couldn't ask for anything more. I have had to come to terms that I couldn't look after himself myself and the staff have been so understanding in helping me do this. I am eternally grateful. Thank you.

Dad is so well cared for at The Hawthorns. We can continue our daily lives confident in the knowledge that he is receiving the best possible care while we are working and unable to watch him 24/7. The staff are very responsive to any requests we have or questions about Dad's care/health. We can visit
at any time thanks to the open-door policy, and either sit in the quiet lounge or the beautifully cared-for garden to enjoy quality time together. He is very settled and continues to enjoy all the activities and entertainment on offer. A highly recommended home-from-home.

My mother has been a resident at The Hawthorns for over 18 months now, and I feel that she is in very good hands. There is a calm, friendly atmosphere in the building, and it’s nice to see how the staff engage with the residents – there is genuine warmth in the interactions. I visit my mother most Saturday
mornings, so I have had plenty of opportunities to see the staff in action.
The lounges are light and airy, and there is an outdoor area for when the weather is nice.
An additional advantage is that The Hawthorns is just opposite the Pavilion Gardens, which is perfect for short outings and easily accessible by wheelchair. There is a lake, lots of wildlife and a café, and various events and activities take place throughout the year, so it’s perfect for a change of scenery and some added stimulation surrounded by people of all ages.
It's a source of great comfort to know that my mother is well looked after and cared for.

My mum moved into The Hawthorns in the middle of the Corona crisis after a stay of some months in hospital. Despite the challenging surrounding circumstances, the move went well and she settled in quickly. The home is very comfortable and all the staff are super; nothing seems to be too much for them
to do and they are always patient, cheerful and friendly. Communication with the family is excellent and it has been easy to reach a good "working relationship" with the common aim of making my mum's stay as comfortable and safe as possible. I live abroad and cannot visit Buxton as often as I might like to, but frequent phone calls maintain the contact between visits. When visiting, I always feel that I am made welcome. Being so close to the local park and gardens, outings with a wheelchair to drink tea and eat cake in the cafe, while watching the world go by, are easy to manage and are enjoyed by both of us. I would unreservedly recommend The Hawthorns to any family seeking a care home.

My mum lived at The Hawthorns for the final ten months of her life. Although she was at first reluctant to move in, she soon settled there. She was welcomed there very warmly by all the staff and was extremely well cared for. The home is ideally situated in Buxton, opposite the Pavilion Gardens and
near enough to the town centre to enable me to take her out in a wheelchair to enjoy various trips.
I cannot express my thanks enough to all the carers and other staff who helped her through her very difficult, final illness. They were unfailingly kind, compassionate and caring to both Mum and to all the members of our family.
I would have no hesitation in recommending The Hawthorns to anyone who is contemplating the move to a care home.

December at The Hawthorns is a hive of activity as everyone gets ready for Christmas. The residents take part in crafts to produce various decorations, and there is an air of anticipation as the Christmas trees are decorated. My mum’s delight at the various events is captured on social media through
photos and videos. There have been carol singing and dancing to Christmas songs, Christmas parties, Santa visiting and a brass band playing, to name a few. It is so heart-warming to see the joy on my mum’s face as one of the performers in the panto takes a moment to engage with her, and I recognise this engagement is part of The Hawthorns philosophy because I see it from the staff when I visit. I think engagement with the residents and tending to a person’s individual needs are hugely important and the staff at The Hawthorns do this with warmth and a generosity of spirit.

The Hawthorns is a small and welcoming home with gardens in the centre of Buxton. The staff are all very caring and approachable. The resident's care is tailored to their needs medically and with lots of interactive activities and entertainment to suit all interests. Mum has a personal carer but responds
well to all the staff and fellow residents. There is a policy of continuing improvement from the leaders. We couldn’t wish for a nicer home for my mum.

Visited my father in law in March for the first time since he became a guest of The Hawthorns, Buxton.
Made very welcome on arrival. Morning service was being held, so we were given coffee in the dining room until it ended. Shown round the home then joined my father in law in the conservatory.
Overall
atmosphere was very homely and one of great care/consideration for the residents.
All staff very friendly and accommodating for visitors and residents alike.
As we are some distance away on the south coast, the private Facebook page for family members is invaluable. It's lovely to see the activities diary for the week and pictures of the residents enjoying their day, either with trips out, activities within the home or enjoying the garden. Seeing my father in law joining a sing along was heart warming.

An excellent home, with the most caring of staff. My aunt in law was a resident there from September 2020 until she passed in February 2022. They treated my aunt in law with dignity and kindness. It was like being a member of a family, every care worker was wonderful and kind. They looked after me when
I was with my aunt in law when she passed, feeding me and making me brews. I cannot praise the home enough. It's the home I would want to live in, when the time comes. But the Hawthorns is just a house, the staff there make it a home.

Where do I start about The Hawthorns, a beautiful old house set in lovely gardens where the residents can sit out on a lovely day, it is situated opposite the Pavilion Gardens. My auntie moved into The Hawthorns in January of this year, she settled in really well and now calls it her home. She has made
lots of new friends, residents and staff. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, and all do their very best to support and care for my auntie. My auntie particularly enjoys the social side of The Hawthorns where they have varied entertainment going on every day.
I would recommend The Hawthorns 100%.

My Nan has been a resident of The Hawthorns for two or three years. None of the family, including my Nan, particularly wanted her to go into residential care, and we were worried she wouldn’t take to it, but it was no longer possible for her to live independently or with family due to the amount of
care she needed.
We didn’t need to worry at all! My Nan soon settled in and is very happy there. The first thing that always strikes me when I walk in is the calm but bright/light atmosphere. Everyone seems settled and happy. The main common room is lovely, the residents have their own place to sit for routine. The room is big, airy and bright, with a lovely conservatory. Her bedroom is cosy and clean with a WC.
The level of care is so evident, all the staff I’ve come across are gentle, kind, friendly; they really do care. Nothing seems too much trouble.
The activities are regular and varied, and they have loads of fun games too. The photos show the evident happiness. I can’t speak highly enough.

I moved my mum into The Hawthorns in October 2019 and was amazed by how well she settled in. She has a lovely bright and airy room and really enjoys all the activities on offer. All staff are so kind and caring, with nothing too much trouble for them. They are always willing to chat about Mum whenever
I am able to visit. I live quite a drive away, but know that there is always someone at the end of the phone to update me about Mum. Their care has been exemplary in this very difficult time. I have particularly welcomed the opportunity to video call Mum. I would highly recommend The Hawthorns to anybody needing residential care.

Both as a relative and as a social worker by background, I cannot speak/type too highly of The Hawthorns and the brilliant staff! - especially during this awful time. It has been reassuring to hear of the arrangements that have been made within the home to help keep everyone optimally safe and well;
lovely to have phone and video calls and to see pictures (on the dedicated, closed group website page) of Mum, the staff (looking for the way to Amarillo! - fantastic) and events - the VE Day tea party looked wonderful.
Salvation Army Older People's Services HQ office have also provided helpful and reassuring information.
The Hawthorns (and Salvation Army) ethos shine through!
There is a real sense that The Hawthorns has become Mum's home.

My Mum has been a resident of The Hawthorns Care Home for almost two years. She is 86 years old and has dementia which particularly affects her memory. The home is a very happy and peaceful place. Staff always have time to talk and the atmosphere is always free of bustle or rush. Mum really enjoys the
devotional times which are lead by the Salvation Army Chaplain and the pastoral care she receives is a real blessing to her and reassuring to us as family. The home is always spotlessly clean and is presented in a homely way. The staff are friendly to us as relatives and we enjoy joining in with activities if our visits coincide with these times. We sometimes sit and watch the interaction of carers with residents and it is clear that they are all very much loved and there is a strong family feeling. In conclusion, we simply have a deep sense of gratitude to all those who go above and beyond in caring for Mum.
