Anchor’s Heather Vale, in Hasland near Chesterfield, is a purpose-built home supporting up to 39 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as providing dementia care.

It is located within reach of local transport links and has a well-tended garden space for customers and their families to enjoy.

The home strives to deliver a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care and long term care for those who can no longer look after themselves. Heather Vale continues to welcome new residents.

The Anchor care team gets to know customers and works with them to organise stimulating activities in the care home and local community, which match individual and group interests.

Each resident's individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements. Meals are cooked fresh and from locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible by a highly trained Chef Manager and kitchen staff.

With it being the start of winter and Halloween in October staff went to great lengths to decorate the lounge and foyer with bright autumnal decorations - many of which us residents helped to make. This interaction was excellent as it helped many dementia clients to join in, share, use their hands and
cautiously remember similar activities from their past. This was heartwarming to see and extremely cathartic for the clients as it made them feel useful and needed.
Staff also took a few able-bodied of us to a 1940s themed market in the local town and, again, this was perfect to stimulate affiliated minds and help the clients reconnect with the present through exposure to the past.

The carers here are so lovely, friendly and patient. I can’t thank them enough for their care and patience with my grandparents. They are amazing! The home and staff is lovely and I am happy my grandparents came to Heather Vale. Also there is always lots of activities going off. The garden is lovely
and the ducks!

Following a traumatic respite period at a different home, I was nervous about looking anywhere else, but with Alzheimer's getting worse for my gran it was a need. From the moment we stepped in the door to view, I knew it was right, daft things like carpet on the floor, the furniture was clean and modern
but right for the age group. Staff were bustling about and clearly visible. Residents looked comfy, entertained and happy. They came to meet my gran in her own home to assess her needs and agreed to take her. From that day forward I relaxed, you could drop in whenever you wanted, so I felt there was nothing to hide. She was always clean, and colour-coordinated, which was a huge thing for my gran. She started to put on a little weight so I knew she was eating. There were always familiar faces and not a huge turnover of staff. They were entertained every day and it was lovely seeing pictures on social media of my gran joining in. The best decision I made was Heather Vale.

My mother entered Heather Vale in the summer of 2020, after six months in a care home in Northumberland (respite care). She was moved here to be near to her immediate family. she has quickly settled into her new environment and is now contented! This is primarily down to the staff, who in my opinion,
have bent over backwards to accommodate her and make her feel part of the community, at an otherwise difficult period of her life.

Excellent management and staff, they have worked extra head through difficult Covid times and kept residents safe. All staff are very caring and welcoming. Management communication is very good.

Well cared for. Staff attentive and willing to listen is help needed.
Would recommend but would point out that I thought it was very expensive. As I improved staff popped in less which I missed, but care did not reduce.

My husband is very well looked after, mentally as well as physically. Although he has dementia and doesn't communicate well he always smiles when one of his carers enters his room. Heather Vale are very good at entertaining residents in spite of Covid restrictions. Any problems we have are quickly resolved
after speaking to the manager or team leaders.

The staff are really friendly and polite, also very patient, helpful, understanding and often with quite a dry sense of humour, which under the current circumstances is greatly appreciated, The care provided seems brilliant - and Mum can be difficult. There are no complaints with the food either, and
she has always been notoriously difficult to please! It's always very clean and organised; I have absolutely nothing to complain about.

My father came to Heather Vale a couple of years ago. I wasn't sure he could ever settle having tried another care home where he became very agitated. He did settle and within a very short time thought he had been there for years. He has been very well cared for so that a great weight has been taken
from my shoulders. I have been so grateful over this last year for all the sacrifices the care staff have made in order to keep all of the residents safe. They have all been amazing. Dad's medical needs, as well as emotional needs, have been carefully met and I have always felt welcome when I have visited. I have also grown very fond of the other residents. I have missed them over the last year.

The staff at the home have been excellent since grandad moved in during December 2020.
Due to the pandemic, we were able to visit the home before or during grandad's induction which made the transition challenging for grandad and his family. However, the home was fantastic keeping us updated on how
grandad was settling in and giving us ways to keep in touch with him throughout.
Now we are able to do in-home visits you can physically see how much improvement there has been in grandad's mental and physical health. He's happy, content and clearly well looked after.
The team demonstrate a genuine interest in grandad's wants and needs and have made a concerted effort to get to know him, his likes and dislikes which has built trust between everyone.
Thank you for taking such good care of him.

It took mum a long time to settle, but from the start of her stay, the staff have kept me up to date with her progress. Just a few little communication glitches in the first two weeks. The first few weeks were so difficult but I was constantly reassured by professional, caring staff. They gave her a
fabulous birthday and although I was only able to 'window visit' she seemed happier than she has been for months. I have realised that it is not just the resident who needs care and support but we relatives too - and this is acknowledged. Thank you!

Because I was ill had to arrange a care home at short notice. Because he has to isolate, we couldn't visit, but he seemed to be happy there. He has dementia and incontinence problems, but they looked after him very well. Would not hesitate to let him go there again. Thanks to the great staff.

This was the first time I had accepted allowing my husband to go into care for respite. He loved his room, settled in straight away and thought he was in a holiday hotel. Everyone made us feel welcome and at home. I had peace of mind, and he had excellent care and enjoyed his stay. Would highly recommend.

My mum has been at the home for about 20 months now, the care she has received in that time has been fantastic. Her room is always clean and tidy and the staff always willing to care for, support and entertain the residents.
Any organisation is only as good as its staff and they are tremendous. They
have risen to the challenges presented by the virus and found ways of relative sand loved ones contacting with the residents.

Since my Mum has lived at Heather Vale Care Home, she has been looked after with no issues. This was a particularly tender time for my mum as she has always had a fear of moving into a care home, but the staff at Heather Vale made her move in as comfortably as possible and have looked after her with
special care since she joined them. The Covid restrictions have obviously made contact harder than it would normally be but Heather Vale has made every effort to let residents see or talk to their family as much as possible. This is via visits either side of glass and more recently, garden visits at a social distance and they have backed this up with Facebook messager video calls and phone calls. My mum is very happy at Heather Vale and has told me she is happy that she made the move, so that speaks for itself.

My aunt always had Heather Vale in mind for when she needed to leave her own home and is delighted to have a place. The home is secure with staff constantly having to stop what they are doing and open the main door but always do it with a smile.

I received the form Review Us at a difficult time when I am unable to visit Mum as usual due to COVID-19. The home has done very well to keep the home free of the virus but it is hard to gauge the atmosphere of the home or meet the new manager. Mum talks often of acts of kindness and helpfulness by
staff but she is experiencing lots of new and temporary faces who do not know her and this is a cause of anxiety for her. The problem with the time it takes to respond to the buzzer continues intermittently and this causes distress. I have expressed concerns about the activities to the team leader several times. Residents are given an interesting timetable and my Mum selects which of these she would like to go to. However, when she asks if they are taking place, often they are not. The room is well-appointed and my interaction with staff has always been positive. I do miss the relative meetings where concerns can be aired and also to assess whether these issues are experienced by others.
