Holmewood is located on the outskirts of the busy town of Chesterfield, nestled at the heart of the community alongside its sister home, Barnfield.

Holmewood prides itself on the care and attention given to residents and their families. Carers concentrate on getting to know residents and their families, enabling staff to look after physical needs and more importantly delivering what emotional support residents and their family might need.

The home understands that choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions a family member or advocate can make and are there to help families through that decision, through the move-in and beyond.

Holmewood Care Home also offers excellent activities, which provide stimulation and engagement to all residents. The home's activities coordinator works with individuals to ensure that they are offered activities that will suit each person. Sometimes, this means that one-to-one activities are more appropriate than group activities.

Along with the excellent care offered by very experienced teams, significant support is offered to family members too. Other seminars are around funding care, lasting power of attorney or where end-of-life care takes place and discussing wishes and wants with loved ones.

My husband has only just moved in but the staff have been so helpful, friendly and welcoming. His room is very clean and well-appointed and we hope he will settle in and be happy.

On my first visit I was impressed by the security at the entrance, a register is on hand for visitors to sign in, date, time, and the name of the person going to see. You then ring a bell to be admitted. You are welcomed by a smiling happy face of one of the staff. My first impression, no smell of stale
air it was fresh. The community room has comfy chairs and a TV, there is also plenty of fruit juice and little snacks for the residents, staff was there at all times, alert, watchful, professional, nothing was too much trouble, and always with a smile. My brother's room had his photo taped to the door (good idea), it consisted of a bed, wardrobe, an easy chair near the window and clean. For main meals they have a choice of two. I have to admit it smelled delicious. I know my brother is in a good place and his needs are being cared for.

Rooms and bedrooms are dated. Beds are not suitable for clients. No moving and handling items with the use of a rotunda stand aid.
Losing personal items, clothes and bedding. Lack of communication with staff and management. The staff are friendly but on enquiring information on the phone sometimes
are rude and feel time is wasted.

We want to assure you that we take all comments about our home very seriously and thank you for taking the time to clarify your issues on the phone call. I can confirm that we do have a regular program of refurbishing our bedrooms, and in relation to beds, we provide different types according to the needs of the individual, in many cases divan beds are appropriate, where they are not, more specialist hospital beds are provided. As discussed, Holmewood has manual handling equipment available, in this case we were awaiting the advice of the occupational therapist before obtaining individual equipment. We do keep an inventory of items brought into the Home and I am sorry that some items were not returned on discharge, they may have still been in the laundry, if you could let me know what is missing, I will locate and forward these to you. I am pleased to hear from you that you were happy with the care provided to your father when he was with us and would like him to return in the future.

Very pleased with Holmewood Care Home. From my experience with the staff, they are excellent in the job they do, very polite, friendly and really seem to care. Overall very happy at the moment, my dad's health improved in the time he has been here. Enjoys his food etc.

There is a lovely atmosphere, great friendliness - which pervades wherever you go. It is always people-centred and it is possible to feel simply at 'home' - because you can have a 'laugh' about things that may not immediately 'work out.' Very thoughtful and creative approach - flowers, the garden areas,
music - ok.

Unbelievable home, the staff are truly amazing, fantastic with staff. Nothing is too much trouble. My nan was underweight on arrival and they helped her put weight on. Made her feel at home and settled. Made the whole experience a less distressing one.

A last-minute visit with my children and their children. You were so accommodating, fitting us in at such short notice - this is very much appreciated - thank you.
Mum appeared well, although slippers and glasses were missing - a member of staff went to search.
Mum's room was very clean and tidy,
and she had just been showered.
We were checked on several times to make sure all ok.
Care plan review is to be scheduled for the new year.

Job Title: Activity Coordinator

I have been working here since summer 2023 but I have over 10 years of experience in activities and care. I am an NVQ 3 qualified, fire trainer instructor and I have a degree in pedagogy & psychology. I can sing, and play the guitar and my favourite activity is a fun singalong. My proudest achievement in this role is winning 1st place for the tastiest cake in a cake-making activity. In my spare time, I also like to take photographs. You will see some of these pictures on our Facebook page. My biggest passion in life is volunteering for charities supporting children in need.

My passion for care began when I used to visit my grandma who was in Holmewood Care Home, I got to know the manager who saw something in me and suggested a career in care, I wasn’t sure if I could do it but she encouraged me to give it try and I have never looked back.


I started as a care assistant 25 years ago and gradually worked my way through the different roles in the home, becoming a deputy in 2014 and then manager in 2022, an achievement I am really proud of.


Every day is so rewarding, when new resident arrives, they can start off scared and unsettled so the challenge is to make them feel at home and like part of the family, when you see them transform and thrive, it makes it all worthwhile.


My qualifications include NVQ levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Health & Social Care and management.
