Holmewood is located on the outskirts of the busy town of Chesterfield, nestled at the heart of the community alongside its sister home, Barnfield.

Holmewood prides itself on the care and attention given to residents and their families. Carers concentrate on getting to know residents and their families, enabling staff to look after physical needs and more importantly delivering what emotional support residents and their family might need.

The home understands that choosing a care home is one of the most difficult decisions a family member or advocate can make and are there to help families through that decision, through the move-in and beyond.

Holmewood Care Home also offers excellent activities, which provide stimulation and engagement to all residents. The home's activities coordinator works with individuals to ensure that they are offered activities that will suit each person. Sometimes, this means that one-to-one activities are more appropriate than group activities.

Along with the excellent care offered by very experienced teams, significant support is offered to family members too. Other seminars are around funding care, lasting power of attorney or where end-of-life care takes place and discussing wishes and wants with loved ones.

Our family are very happy as mother has settled in and is very happy with staff. Every time we visit she tells us how happy she is. The staff are always helpful and any problems we have they sort it out.

Mum always seems happy and healthy, all the caring staff and management are always happy to help and care for the residents. Improvements always being made, special thanks to the home manager for the great help and care she puts into the running and caring. All the staff are credits to the home.

Job Title: Activity Coordinator

I have been working here since summer 2023 but I have over 10 years of experience in activities and care. I am an NVQ 3 qualified, fire trainer instructor and I have a degree in pedagogy & psychology. I can sing, and play the guitar and my favourite activity is a fun singalong. My proudest achievement in this role is winning 1st place for the tastiest cake in a cake-making activity. In my spare time, I also like to take photographs. You will see some of these pictures on our Facebook page. My biggest passion in life is volunteering for charities supporting children in need.

My passion for care began when I used to visit my grandma who was in Holmewood Care Home, I got to know the manager who saw something in me and suggested a career in care, I wasn’t sure if I could do it but she encouraged me to give it try and I have never looked back.


I started as a care assistant 25 years ago and gradually worked my way through the different roles in the home, becoming a deputy in 2014 and then manager in 2022, an achievement I am really proud of.


Every day is so rewarding, when new resident arrives, they can start off scared and unsettled so the challenge is to make them feel at home and like part of the family, when you see them transform and thrive, it makes it all worthwhile.


My qualifications include NVQ levels 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Health & Social Care and management.
