My Mum, aged 95, was rushed to hospital from Elvaston Lodge Nursing Home on 1.8.22 in a serious medical condition. The hospital discovered that she was dehydrated, had low blood sugar and had a totally impacted bowel, (Faecaloma). She subsequently died on 6.8.22.
Because of the circumstances, a coroner’s
inquest was held. The coroner’s judgement was that at the care home, there was no prior clinical examination of mum, and had there been, this would have found the faecal impaction at an early stage. The laxatives she was prescribed had then been stopped without clinical examination and thus medical approval. As a consequence, the coroner was not able to report the death as "from natural causes", because the decision by the care home to stop laxatives on July 23 was a contributory cause of death.
Prior to this, the standard of care mum was receiving was shocking in every aspect. There was a manager who was uncontactable when we tried to express our concerns.

After the stress and anxiety caused by Dad's two nights in another care home, as soon as he moved to Elvaston Lodge Nursing Home I could tell this was much better for Dad. There is a lovely outside area where he can smoke safely, attended by a carer. His room is clean, bright and airy, they adapted
it to his needs by removing unwanted furniture. His bathroom is ideal for his mobility issues. Although he usually eats little, his appetite has improved (I joined him for Easter lunch and the food was delicious). Usually a loner, he has mixed in with other residents. He's always treated with dignity and respect. Thank you to the team.

My mum was only in the home for a short time but was treated very well. The staff were attentive and offered her a lot of support. I was impressed by the organisation at the home. The food was excellent, and the home was clean and tidy. My mum was treated with a lot of respect and care in her final

I don’t know where to start with my praise for all the staff at Elvaston Lodge Nursing Home. From day one all staff were kind and friendly to all of our family. We thought we had months there with my husband but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The week he went into end of life care there wasn’t anything
that the staff wouldn’t do for us or him. Always making sure he was comfortable and pain free. It wasn’t just him, it was anyone who came to sit with him in his last days. They were offered food and drink throughout the day. Nothing was any trouble at all. They were 100% helpful to us all. Always had time to listen to your worries or just asking how you were getting on. We will be eternally grateful for the care and dedication that was shown in my husband's last few days. Can’t thank you enough x

This place is truly disgusting. My father-in-law was placed here during covid. He ended up in hospital in December 2022 from where we were able to move him to a different home. He was in hospital following one of many falls. He should never have been forced to get on his feet. He was severely underweight,
dehydrated and had sepsis. He should have had someone supervising his eating and drinking but did not. A family friend had visited him and asked if it was okay to leave him a gift of a bottle of rum. He was told that was Okay! His room was very dusty and dirty and the smell from him and the room was overwhelming. We were even given seats to sit on that had faeces on them. There were faeces on the floor one day with 3 staff members guiding people around it instead of simply picking it up. On one visit, a resident answered the door to us. Absolutely disgusting, shocking place and I would never advise anyone to place a loved one here.

I find the staff at Elvaston Lodge very considerate to the residents. If they are needed they are soon on the scene. I think they do a great job towards the resident and I think they do a wonderful day's work.

My Dad had been in Elvaston Lodge for over 5 years, the staff at the home were always very friendly and looked after my Dad very well. He loved the food and his lovely dual-aspect room which was always clean.

From the moment my mother arrived, I knew that Elvaston Lodge was the ideal placement for her. I love the room she is in, and its bright outlook to a grassy area across the road is great. The staff are caring, respectful and accommodating to both residents and visitors. My mother has told me that she
loves the food here, and I have seen the staff arrive promptly if she needs any toileting or other care. This is an efficient, safe and extremely caring place, and I would have no hesitation in recommending it to others. Keep up the great work!

My aunt has settled very well. The carers are thoughtful and keep me informed of any problems. The home is kept very clean and her bedroom is always nicely presented, the bathroom is always clean. I feel that, maybe, a little more activities would benefit the residents.

Very pleased with the care my father receives. He loves the food and really enjoys his meals. He likes to sit in his own room with his television, and can use the nice communal room for meals or when he wants company. The staff are very friendly and his room is kept clean.

Our aunt has been a resident at Elvaston Lodge since July on the recommendation of a friend whose mother is also here. We have nothing but praise for the management and staff, everyone is professional yet still so friendly and accommodating to residents and visitors alike. The home is very clean and
tidy and our aunt, although she does not eat much, always says that she likes the food. The main thing that has made us feel this is that everyone acknowledges all the residents by name and stops for a quick chat however busy they are. The activity coordinator is very good and will try to involve even the most reluctant resident. We would not hesitate to recommend to others as it was recommended to us. Thank you and keep up the good work!

My mother's room is clean, tidy and spacious and has own toilet and washing facilities. The staff are genuinely most considerate and caring and try under what can, understandably, be difficult situations, to provide comfort and display kindness and concern for the residents.
The entertainment, when
provided in the form of guest musicians, seems to be the one thing that brings the residents together the most and I believe should be encouraged to the utmost. I know my mother enjoys these moments very much, joining in singing and playing along with the musicians. Other activities should also be encouraged, such as skittles, etc. which involve gentle exercise.
The food is excellent with breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea provided daily. Recently the communal room has undergone a refurbishment which gives the area a very pleasant and homely feeling. Overall I am pleased with the service the home provides for my mother.

My 93-year-old aunt entered Elvaston Lodge some months ago and I have visited on several occasions. The visits have been to see my aunt but also to discuss financial matters with staff. I always find the care home clean, tidy and with a friendly, caring environment. Not only the carer staff themselves
but also the administration/management are truly a fantastic group of dedicated people. Caring for the elderly cannot be the easiest of jobs but the staff have this remarkable ability to engage with the residents.
