The care home was clean and tidy the staff were brilliant and very caring. Overall the care was more than 75% but less than 100%. My wife's well being was uppermost in the staff and management in their minds and I would definitely recommend the home for respite or permanent residency. Well done Foylebank,
you did yourselves proud.

My mother is a new resident at Foylebank Care Home. This is the first home mum has gone into. My first contact regarding my worries about mum was with the Deputy Manager. Instantly I became less worried about mum after talking with the Deputy Manager. She put my mind at rest on so many issues and questions
I had. I found her to be very competent with her knowledge and skills showing a great deal of experience she has. The Deputy Manager always had time for my questions and was extremely efficient with feedback. Having this kind of approachable personality wanting to put my and my family's mind at rest. Also, the carers are well-mannered and respectable with the residents. Thank you Foyle Bank.

I visited my aunt for the second time in this home. The atmosphere in the home is extremely friendly, and you feel welcomed as a visitor. My aunt seems really settled and well cared for. All her needs seem to be met. The appearance of the home is really impressive - all areas are clean and fresh. There
are always a number of staff, all of whom are very friendly, to help with residents' needs.

My mum was admitted for respite care initially for four weeks but is now living there permanently. They made all the family welcome and have taken excellent care of mum. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff care so much for the residents. It is lovely to see how they interact, respect and treat
them as they would there own family. It is run so well and they ensure that everyone is given has the chance to take part in activities and are included in whatever is happening. They have given support and reassurance to our family at a time of great difficulty and we could not be more grateful.

I find the staff caring and kind, they treat each resident as individuals and are very good at their jobs. My mum enjoys the company and is happier than she was before she moved to the home.
I feel happy knowing that Mum is safe and cared for.

If I could give this home a zero rating I would!
This home is badly run. Staff are not adequately trained. Staffing is insufficient and they are not competent in the roles they are in. Record keeping is atrocious. They did not update my aunt's next of kin records for over 5 months; leaving her deceased
son and social worker as next of kin! I was told by an admin person that my aunt was not a falls risk despite being put in this home by social services after breaking 3 ribs in a fall and with a history of previous falls. They don't have a clue what they are talking about! Basic needs such as having finger and toe nails cut and hairdressing done, are ignored despite frequent requests for repeat, regular appointments and funding made available.
Items of clothing are lost. My aunt often has mismatched clothes on which don't belong to her. I know as I buy her clothing! Complete underwear is not put on. How is this right?
I've complained about the place being cold, of the filthy cook's uniform and of that member of staff wearing their kitchen uniform to do other jobs!
My aunt has been in hospital every weekend for the last three or four weeks with three falls in three days, on some occasions. There are pieces of broken glass in her wardrobe from broken picture frames, in a zipped cushion cover!
On 19.04.23 my aunt was sat on her bed naked from the waist down, staff were oblivious to this.
Previously, we found my aunt with an infected, inflamed and swollen, red, leg. I had to instruct the staff to call 111. They had washed her and dressed her but noticed nothing! This was diagnosed as cellulitis which I had also indicated but the staff did not have a clue!
Today they sent my aunt to the hospital. The doctor said there is nothing wrong with her. Foylebank has refused to have her back! They have made a 96 year old lady; blind in one eye and very hard of hearing and who recently lost her only child homeless!

Having had time to settle, Dad is coming to terms with his residency. On balance, the staff are very good and take pride in their roles. They are very caring. A great effort was made in December to embrace all things Christmas, which is very much appreciated.

Our mum was a resident for three years until she passed away Oct 2022.
We found the home to be a well-run and caring place. Our mum received excellent care and was always very happy, the staff took the time to engage with residents and visitors and a wide variety of activities was provided to enhance
her well-being. All this was possibly due to the great team, good leadership and training, I hope they continue to keep up the good work.

We moved Mum to a new home after 9 months. I observed that she went for long periods without getting out of bed as the home would not provide a suitable chair for her needs. She reported that she was rarely showered and I noticed they did not use the lotions and shampoos we took in for her. During her
stay they lost some of her clothes. Precious items were lost and broken. There's little attempt to make the experience for the residents social. The lounges do not seem to be used by the residents much and as a result, staff spend their time running around dealing with the call bells rather than spending time talking and getting to know their charges. I noticed that often the home is dirty, e.g. one of the residents spits in the corridors and in the lift. As a result, the carpet in the corridor is stained and the lift sometimes went a month without a clean - we could see the same spit marks on multiple visits. Whilst Mums' floor was cleaned, surfaces such as her table were unhygienic.

Thank you for your feedback, we welcome all types of feedback as this helps up improve our service. However, we are somewhat confused as this is not consistent with the thank you cards and expressions of appreciation upon mum leaving our care, as these are completely the opposite of what you have published on this platform.

We would very much welcome a face-to-face meeting with you to discuss the ambiguity of your comments and following receipt of this review, we have made a number of attempts to discuss this with you with no success.

We understand that some decisions that were made regarding fees and equipment being returned, may have contributed to your duplicitous comments, unfortunately, decisions that were made were unavoidable due to a number of factors, which were explained upon mums departure.

We hope that you make contact and look forward to hearing from you.

Dad spent 10 weeks at Foylebank. The home was clean and tidy and the carers were friendly and helpful. Dad seemed happy enough on family visits, although we did have a number of issues that were raised at the time with management. These included Dad repeatedly wearing clothes that did not belong to
him (even though he had lots of clothes, all with clear name tags) and items going missing (dentures, walking stick, glasses and slippers), most of which were later found. Dad was hospitalised twice during his stay and spent time in isolation at Foylebank in-between times. Mum was not allowed to visit during the isolation period which was upsetting and, as his main caregiver, was against the Government guidance at that time.

Reply from Lee Langley, Registered Manager at Foylebank Care Home

Thank you for your review and your kind comments, Dad was a pleasure to look after at Foylebank Care Home. At the time of Dad's stay at Foylebank there wasn't any guidance in place for designated carers to attend the home and as dad had been discharged from hospital, the home had to follow isolation guidance at this time. We apologise that Dad's stay with us didn't meet your expectations and your feedback will enable us to improve.

Mum not being showered for weeks, two pads full of urine and soiled. Greasy hair, not bathed at all. Soiled bedclothes and dirty cloths which is ongoing. I get mum ready for bed in nice clean clothes and she has been left in the same clothes on Sunday after. A resident had also defecated in front of
my mum's door and it wasn't cleaned up.

The staff at Foylebank Care Home were always very helpful and polite. The home itself is presented very well (clean and tidy). My mother's only downside comment was that there did not appear to be enough staff at times. I am sure she would agree overall 11 out of 10 for everything. I used to work in
the care industry, visiting care homes quite often. Foylebank is possibly the best home I have been in.

Management and staff strive to give a pleasurable environment with a good standard of care. Unfortunately due to circumstances ie covid restrictions things have added extra workload and rules which have made their daily life more difficult as has been previously usual.
No less a positive attitude
and a dedicated ethos of care has shown through.

Thank you for your kind words, myself and the team at Foylebank always aim to provide a home from home experience. Things have had to change within the home due to covid, however, we are pleased that you feel this hasn't changed the feel of the home and or the hard work and efforts from the team.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.915)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.915) out of 10 for Foylebank Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.215 for Foylebank Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (60 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 93 Ratings = 4.215

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Foylebank Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
