My mum stayed at Fernleigh Care Home for a short time after being discharged from hospital.
The standard of care she received whilst there was excellent. The staff were brilliant in making her feel comfortable and managing her special needs.
The outstanding personal care given to my mum by all of
the staff was exceptional. Everyone treated her with respect and dignity as though she was one of their relatives. The managing of her medical needs was above and beyond anything she had received before.
The staff kept us informed at all times and were always available to talk to us when we phoned or visited.
I highly recommend Fernleigh to anybody who needs a care home for their relatives.

As a family, we think the care that is given to my Dad is outstanding. The staff are extremely welcoming and approachable. They always have words of support and give positive advice with puts us at ease.
The atmosphere within the care home is always lovely, a very happy, jolly place to be in when
we visit.
The menu is on a rota, which we think it’s brilliant and the choices are exceptional. The food always is always fresh and is delicious.
The care home go above and beyond for celebratory events and occasions.
Cleanliness is always spot on and smells lovely.
I couldn’t have wished for a better care home for my Dad.

My dad originally came to Fernleigh for respite and loved it. When the time came to find him a permanent care facility Fernleigh was our first and only choice. We cannot thank all of the staff for their care and understanding, he has built some lovely relationships and so have we.

My father has been at Fernleigh Care Home since May 2020. It has been a very difficult time for everyone with Covid and the issues associated with this. During his time at Fernleigh, I have been made to feel that his care and safety is paramount. He has had some illnesses which the care home have managed
and have kept me informed of. I contact the care home regularly to see how my Dad is and am always given feedback as to how he is. On my visits to the home, whilst these are difficult and sometimes upsetting with how they have to be conducted, I know my Dad is properly cared for. I know that I would be unable to provide the level of care he needs and am grateful that Fernleigh is there to provide this for me.

My dad was admitted here from a hospital admission in June 2020 on a temporary basis due to COVID-19. My sister and I fought for him to be placed here as on paper it sounded like the perfect place to manage his dementia. Within a day, they lost his stuff including his glasses. He was wearing other people's
clothes despite us providing him with clothes. We made the staff aware of his interests such as he was a huge Leicester City fan and were assured they would put the game on the radio for him, this never happened. Whilst there, he caught the coronavirus. As a result, my dad had to go into insolation, no problem with that. However, most of the time we were unable to speak to him as the phone did not reach that high. Not acceptable. My dad passed away in the home, not one person has made contact with us to check-in and we have not received his possessions back. This is my own personal experience with them and I would advise doing your research when choosing a home for your loved one.

Reply from Louise Clarke, Manager at Fernleigh Care Home

Sorry to hear that your experience was not a positive one. Fernleigh does set a high standard so we apologise if you feel that we did not meet it. There has clearly been some miscommunication regarding contact/activities and belongings which we feel could have been clarified at the time had the issues been raised with us. Following on from phone calls and emails sent since your fathers passing, we do still have some of his possessions here at the home awaiting collection from yourselves? We do appreciate that during these unprecedented times you were not able to experience our home in its full potential and witness first-hand the care and service that we provide. It has been a challenging time for us all but we would have been happy for you to have addressed this directly with us as per the homes complaints policy.

My Mother spent nearly 5 years at Fernleigh and she was always well cared for by all the staff. They have coped marvellously during the lockdown but always at the end of the phone if you needed a chat. Even when her passing was imminent due to her Advanced Dementia there was always someone with her
24/7 and she passed with two carers by her side.

Fernleigh Care Home has been a fantastic caring home to my father-in-law. He is extremely well cared for, and all the staff are amazing. He is always treated with the utmost respect and dignity. I have nothing but praise for the home. It always feels warm and welcoming, and the ethos is one of compassion
and kindness.
We feel reassured that he is in excellent caring hands and would highly recommend Fernleigh. The standards are extremely high. The overall atmosphere is one of a warm and happy caring home where nothing is ever too much trouble.
Thank you.

Mum had been with you for quite a few years. You showed her compassion and love. We always found when we visited a very special link between the staff and mum. The last few days of mum's life was difficult to manage under the current situation. Although you knew mum had the Coronavirus and was passing,
you never wavered in your duty or care. You sat and held mums hand to the end, for this we will be eternally thankful.
The home always kept us informed of any issues with mum. The setting of the home is beautiful with lovely gardens and nice parking at the rear. I would certainly recommend anyone looking for a care home that certainly understands dementia to look at Fernleigh.
Once again, thank you ladies, from all our hearts.

My mother has been very happy at Fernleigh. The staff are very kind and treat her as an individual. She has built up close relationships with many staff members. She has been able to maintain as much independence as possible, choosing when to get up and go to bed, dressing and washing herself; with
help available when needed etc. We have always been made to feel welcome and have visited at all times of the day, and often taken her out on trips.
She considers Fernleigh to be her home and is very happy to live there.
Thank you very much to all the staff for your kindness and genuine care.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.185)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.185) out of 10 for Fernleigh Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Fernleigh Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.185 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fernleigh Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.4 = 0.185

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
