My father stayed at Homes House for 11 months up to his passing at the age of 90 at the end of July. Throughout his time there, staff were very kind, attentive and supportive of his needs. His dementia meant that he could be challenging at times, but staff were patient and caring. It's not the most
modern of facilities, but that is made up for by the attitude and work of the staff.

My 96-year-old mother settled down well at Holmes House, she moved when her dementia got worse and she needed a secure home. The staff are kind and caring, it shows with the residents who are content and happy. Mum enjoys the wholesome meals and gained some weight and enjoys the company of other residents.

We are very pleased with the care you give our mum. Management always there to answer any questions. The care girls are very good, also male carers. They have plenty of time for the residents and always in the background to see what's going on. The staff are always pleasant to family and visitors. Couldn't
wish for anymore.

I will forever regret letting my mother go to Holmes House. Her care was less than satisfactory. When she went to the home she was on regular medication to manage various ailments. At some point some of her medication had become 'as required'. No one made me aware of this. Did this cause her suffering?
Most definitely. The staff on the floor were, mostly, doing the best they could. The management appeared to be out of their depth and overwhelmed with the running of a care home. The accommodation is not as described, the rooms are not en-suite. The room my mother had was awful. The toilets and shower rooms were often dirty and had soiled washing piled on the floor. Personal washing was often lost or returned to the wrong room, despite it having name tags in. Washing, when it did come back, came back discoloured, still stained and often un-ironed. Food served left much room for improvement. There was a lack of fresh vegetables and variety. I would not recommend this home to anyone.

I am so sorry that the home failed to meet yours and ours expectations. We take any feedback very seriously, and on this occasion, it appears that the standards of care were below what they should have been and for this I can only apologise. I have given your feedback to my team and will be opening up an investigation asap to ensure that "lessons are learnt" from your experience so that no other families and clients should have to experience this level of support again.

Staff cared for Mums physical and emotional well being. They were always caring and friendly often going the extra mile to ensure that her needs are met. The food was excellent, rooms beautifully cleaned and the laundry is always done to a high standard. Despite Covid restrictions, the home managed
to entertain the residents through a variety of activities. Our family always felt welcome and supported.

We live in Northern Ireland can only visit twice a year but the care home supplies a tablet so we could FaceTime anytime we could, they are very kind and helpful. The joy it was to see my sister-law and speak to her is wonderful at any time we always seen her looking so well and happy so well taken
care of, we are so grateful to the staff cannot praise them enough I take this opportunity to thank them. Thank you all.

My wife is treated with respect and dignity, and I feel her care is delivered with compassion and humility.
Although my wife has advanced dementia, she is treated very much as someone who matters and a real person. This gives myself and the family great comfort.

Since mum entered the care home, some four years ago. We have always, and still do have total faith in the care received. The care home was our choice as we wanted mum safe. The staff are a delight and whilst mum has dementia, she has always been happy. The care received is second to none, and the staff
are always wanting to ensure mum is entertained and looked after. I would never want Mum moved.

My dad was in emergency respite care at Holmes House/Court for two weeks in January.
He received excellent care and support from the very professional staff. Had the home been closer for family to visit, Dad would definitely have stayed there longer.
Many thanks to the manager and her dedicated team.
Highly
recommended.

Current Review Score: 7.2 (7.223)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.2 (7.223) out of 10 for Holmes House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.667 for Holmes House is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 3.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.556 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Holmes House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 49 registered maximum number of service users is 9.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.8 = 0.306

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
