Silver Oaks is an established boutique residential care home that offers individuals a warm, cosy and comfortable environment, where they can feel truly at home.

Offering a permanent home as well as respite and day care, dependent upon room availability. Silver Oaks is an intimate care home full of character, situated on the edge of Charnwood Forest. The Grade II listed thatched home is a peaceful haven in the heart of Whitwick with easy access to local shops and facilities.

It is in walking distance of Hermitage Park and a fishing lake and is surrounded by landmarks such as Calke Abby, Ashby-de-la-Zouch Castle, the National Trust's Stoneywell and Donington Park Motor Sports Circuit and Castle.

A well trained and experienced team of dedicated, passionate and caring individuals provide personalised care and support tailored to each resident.

An activities coordinator and residents' committee work together to provide such things as trips to the shops, visits to local tea rooms, National Trust properties, theatre shows, yoga, beauty treatments, garden parties and church services.

Staff aim to take into consideration residents' emotional, physical, cultural, religious and psychological state in an all-encompassing approach to care.

The success of the home's approach is echoed in the compliments, recommendations and enquiries that Silver Oaks now receive daily from visiting professionals, family and friends.

My mother has been in Silver Oaks Residential Care Home for over three years. She has dementia and can be difficult at times. The carers always treat her with patience and kindness. Everyone is friendly and cheerful. I have no doubts that Mum receives the best care.

As a family, this was a heart breaking decision to place Dad in a care home setting, after looking at lots of different homes we decided to go with Silver Oaks. We really should not have worried as the staff are wonderful, we are very happy with the care and support provided by staff. We are kept up
to date with any developments. It has taken Dad awhile to settle, but the staff have been supportive of us as a family also. Thank you.

Silver Oaks is a lovely residential care home where I feel my mum is very well cared for. All the carers are wonderful and treat my mum with dignity and respect. I feel that the team works very hard but has a large area to cover which can mean that sometimes there are no staff visible in some of the
areas where residents are located.
I am always kept informed of any care issues and treatments that are prescribed for my mum, and I am made very welcome when I come to visit.

During her 4 years stay, my stepmother received excellent care at Silver Oaks. She had a lovely room which was always clean and warm and which overlooked the very well-kept garden. She found the food wholesome and tasty. There was always a choice.
The staff at Silver Oaks proved to be a team of highly
attentive, friendly and knowledgeable people. They knew when it was necessary to bring in the District Nurse, The Doctor or an Ambulance which was very reassuring. I would not hesitate to recommend Silver Oaks.

Like anybody when a relative is going into a care home, we felt anxious, but these worries were very quickly resolved. The care, attention and support that Silver Oaks gave my 96-year-old aunt and ourselves were excellent. Although my aunt has Alzheimer's, the care staff are friendly and engaging and
have made her transition problem free - it really is like a home from home. The whole package for my aunt has far exceeded our expectations, and would highly recommend it to any family.

One of the worst things that my sister and I have ever had to do was make the decision for our mum to go into a care home. The very thought made us feel ill. However, the best thing we did was find “Silver Oaks”. Our mum spent 7-years living in this “home from home”. All staff (including the genuinely
lovely owners) are amazing, friendly, caring, lovely people, who will do everything possible to make their residents happy, be it a hug, a chat, a cup of tea or a little walk around the beautiful garden. This care is also extended to the family. They know their residents inside out, from their names and their history, likes and dislikes, and can usually solve any problems they may have. The atmosphere is homely, friendly and caring, with lots of love and laughter. People are treated as individuals, with person-centred care at all times, never regimental.
Residents choose when to get up, what to wear, when to eat, (wonderful home-cooked meals and personal choice catered for), and how to spend their time, be it arranged activities or individual choice. Regardless of what is happening, staff always give time to the residents. To us, this was very important to make Mum feel valued as an individual. Silver Oaks gave us peace of mind, and we were able to sleep, even at times when Mum wasn’t well. We trusted the staff implicitly. We would highly recommend this wonderful home (and have done so to family and friends) because that’s what it is – home.

I cannot rate Silver Oaks highly enough. It truly is a home from home. My mum spent the last 2 years of her life at Silver Oaks and the care was second to none. She was always clean, calm and comfortable. For the last 14 months, she was bed-bound (due to disease progression) and she did not suffer
a single pressure sore. The staff turnover is extremely low and it was evident in the last few days of her life (when I was at the home all day) how much the staff involved in her care had grown attached to her. The food is homemade and plentiful and the home itself is spotless. I have no hesitation in recommending Silver Oaks to anyone who has a family member in need of residential care.

Beautiful (recently) re-thatched cottage with an extensive rear garden. Just 19 beds and with an excellent Management Team and Staff. All residents look happy, well cared for and loved. All the staff clearly enjoy their work and it shows. No smells of disinfectant or wee. My wife, who has Alzheimer's
Disease, is clearly at ease there. I am no longer able to look after her but I am comforted by the fact she is now living in such a lovely place.

Silver Oaks provides an extremely safe and secure environment for the residents. The staff are committed, friendly and hardworking and the result is a 'home from home' atmosphere. They go over and above what could be thought of as covering basic requirements and individual requests and needs are always
catered for.

The home is always clean and smells fresh. The residents' clothing and bedding are washed regularly and as items are labelled, they do not end up wearing other peoples' clothes; an important consideration when you have had to move away from home and looking after yourself.

The residents are very well fed. Meals are regular and well presented. Individual requests are always met willingly and the cook is excellent.

Being situated in a listed building does present a few problems but the staff work hard to overcome them but there can occasionally be an issue with mobility around the building that would not be encountered in a purpose-built home.

Overall - excellent care

My mum was in Silveroaks for two and a half years until she passed away on 6th August 2017. During this time her care was always first class as is the home. The staff are very caring and professional in every way and couldn't do enough for my mum. We were made very welcome every time we came to see
mum often we would have tea with mum and fantastic cakes. Every event was catered for birthdays they all had a special tea etc Xmas was a wonderland itself with presents from the staff even Maypole dancing. We have made many friends there and will continue to support the home on their event days. This is not just a care home its a HOME in every way I can't say thank you enough for looking after my mum well done everyone.

One of the worst things my sister and myself have ever had to so was to see our mum go into a care home due to suffering from dementia.
However, one of the best things we ever did was to find Silver Oaks, where we are always made very welcome. Happiness, love and a calming contentment can be felt in
every part of the home due to the wonderful staff who are always happy to give that little bit extra. Maybe a chat, a smile, a cup of tea, a reassuring hug, anything to make their residents feel "at home", safe, secure and cared for. Little things mean a lot and staff always have time for the little things that make Silver Oaks so special. Residents are treated with respect as individuals given choices with dignity being maintained at all times. A home in a million.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.144)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.144) out of 10 for Silver Oaks Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.644 for Silver Oaks Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (40 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.644

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Silver Oaks Residential Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 19 registered maximum number of service users is 3.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
