The Abbeyfield Loughborough Society has been providing care and support to the elderly of Charnwood since 1963.

It is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity and, as such, they reinvest in their home, staff, and volunteers to make sure residents are comfortable, safe and happy.

They are registered to provide dementia care, providing accommodation for 31 elderly residents in Westfield House and 33 in Ingleside House.

At Westfield House and Ingleside House their aim is to provide a safe, dignified and homely environment which promotes well-being in residents. They follow the principles of person-centred care, seeing each resident as an individual with unique qualities, interests, preferences and needs rather than simply focusing on their illness or abilities that they may have lost.

Westfield House's dementia-friendly facilities include:
Themed areas throughout the building that have been developed to prompt memories, trigger conversations, and assist navigation/orientation around the home.
Large, bright, and dementia-friendly signage.
Lighting designed to reduce shadowing.
Uniform flooring throughout the building.
Memory boxes at each bedroom door that can be filled with photos or personal items that are familiar to the resident.
Open plan lounge/dining area/garden room allowing residents to interact and wander at will.
Quiet lounge and cosy seated areas.
Sensory garden, raised flower beds and greenhouse.

They also provide:
Home cooked, nutritionally balanced meals.
Weekly in-house GP surgery.
Visiting hairdresser.
Visiting Chiropodist.
Communion visits from all denominations.

As I live quite a distance from Loughborough, my visits to see my Mum are not as frequent as I would like them to be but I am always really impressed by the staff at Abbeyfield in the welcome that they give to me and the sensitive manner in which they give updates regarding Mum's health and general
well being. I have real confidence in the expertise of the senior staff and am delighted by the compassion and tireless good humour shown by all at Westfield House.

We were very pleased that our mother was accepted here. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. The main room is open and airy and there are always staff in there, keeping an eye out for the residents without being over-bearing. If mum chooses to stay in her room then there are systems in place
to ensure that she is safe and well cared for.

Westfield House is a modern purpose-built building with a pleasant open plan layout downstairs and good sized rooms. The staff relate well to the residents, and the overall atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. A good programme of activities is organised, including visits from the pupils of a local
nursery school, various animals and concerts. Food is plentiful and of a good standard. I am very happy with the care provided.

Westfield House is amazing! It is hard to know where to start. Mum's room is very homely and I have put at least 20 photographs on the walls. Mum has a named care assistant and senior and both of these people take a personal interest in mum. It is brilliant to talk to them as they both know mum so well.
Westfield House has a 'buzz' about it, which I don't think is something you can say about most care homes. There are plenty of activities and even when there is nothing specific going on, there is just a lovely happy atmosphere.
We have a 'Relatives Group', where we can meet very informally and we talk over issues and experiences and support each other - which I found brilliant, especially in those early and confusing days. We feedback to management and our last email said how much we appreciated that all staff take time to talk to individual residents and that their individual needs are recognised wherever possible. I just could not imagine my lovely mum being anywhere else.
