Mum moved in October following a hospital stay. She moved from Bournemouth to Leicester. Her experience has been excellent and her health has improved since being cared for. The staff are encouraging and respectful and she has settled well. Whilst there, she has been poorly on a couple of occasions
and they have been there straight away to take care of her.

Have always found the carers to be of a very high standard, caring and compassionate.
They have always treated mum as a family member.
The only problem seems to be clothes disappearing even when marked.

Reply from Kirsty Youngs, Manager at George Hythe House Residential Care Home

They do always re-appear. We are looking into other identification systems to trial.

Very happy with care provided. Very attentive staff. Friendly and cheerful. Good food. Daily entertainment and interactions. Comfortable rooms with en-suite.

I find the value for money question a rather prickly question.
If an individual's fees are being paid by the state, then truly excellent

value.
Individuals paying their own fees may view things differently.

This is not to be taken as a slight on George Hythe House.

I find the staff to be very caring. They listen to concerns and are helpful. The home is always clean and smells nice. Staff have always been respectful of my father's needs and act quickly if there is a problem. My sister and I both give this home a very high rating.

Great all round improvement since strong management introduced. The consistency of staff means patients and families are happier. Management are visible and accessible. This is a care home worthy of its name.

Thanks for the comment, we have a great staff team, with a number of staff that have been here more than 15 years, this year! Consistency is important and we value all our staff.

My mother has very complex needs and has always struggled to settle. She has been very settled in George Hythe House and has not had a single hospital admission.
The staff are all very caring and also encourage her to be independent and to make choices. They have a great understanding of dementia
and how she needs to be managed to stay happy and calm.
I am confident that she is well cared for. I love the fact that she often gets breakfast in bed and that there is a small lounge and kitchen in each area of the care home making it homely.

My husband was given a nice welcome and during his 2 week stay for rehabilitation was treated by an extremely friendly team of carers. They were very kind and very considerate and when he needed medical help, they had his interest at heart. One person "in particular", (a care leader) is extremely helpful
with regard to seizures. She was wonderful. I thank them all very much.

My husband moved into Geroge Hythe House in December 2015, he has dementia. The staff are very caring and understand my husband very well. There is a family atmosphere in the home and a lot of affection for residents. The home is well run and the current management team seem very competent and professional.
There is regular entertainment and during the summer day trips out. I don't think other care homes could improve on the care given to my husband at George Hythe.

This is an amazing care home. There are some brilliant staff here who treat my mum like a family member. There's nice home cooked food every day in a homely dining room. There's entertainment in the main lounge every week that you can join in with and they gave mum a birthday party. I'd be happy to
stay here someday and my mum is no longer fearful of the idea of staying in a care home.

My mam has been in George Hythe House since June 2016. It did take her a while to settle in. She has good days and bad days.
The staff are very good and know a hug and a cup of tea and biscuits helps.
When we have a problem at the home we bring it to the attention of staff and management.

My wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2007 and was admitted full time into George Hythe House in March 2015. She was quickly absorbed into the family atmosphere of the home. The staff clearly pick up on their client's characters in order to maximise their interest in them and their backgrounds.
Clients
agreeable to take part in day trips and enjoy visiting entertainers and frequent occasions for celebrations. Staff demonstrated thorough commitment to my wife by going with her on urgent trips to hospital appointments when I was not available. A comprehensive care plan was accessible to me for checking and updating. Staff are well trained, sensitive, courteous, very caring and conduct themselves with good humour at all times. I cannot imagine what a better care home would be like.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.394)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.394) out of 10 for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.880 for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (73 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.88

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for George Hythe House Residential Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Vicky Lyons

Job Title: Registered Manager

Vicky is the Registered Manager at George Hythe House and has been working there for a whopping 20 years! She knows her home better than anyone and is a fabulous manager who knows her staff and residents like family.

When asked, Vicky said her staff would describe her as firm but fair, which we have seen to be true in the well-organised and fiercely proud team that she has created.

When not at work, you would normally find Vicky spending time with her little girl where she enjoys going out for meals, specifically a cheeky Nando's & trips out bowling! If not, she would be at home with her cat, Gismo. Vicky's favourite Quote: "Fly like a bird, sting like a bee"
