Beckfield House is a beautiful, late Victorian Arts and Crafts style former Gentleman’s Residence with an attractive modern annexe. It is set in pleasant gardens in the quiet village of Heighington, just 4 miles from the Cathedral city of Lincoln.

The home offers single, double, twin and shared rooms with the majority of the rooms on the ground floor and some on the first floor benefitting from ensuite facilities. The Home also offers a very spacious dining room with direct access to the patio and 2 sitting rooms. Many of the downstairs bedrooms also benefit from patio doors leading directly onto the sunny patio overlooking the secure garden. There is also a hairdressing salon, bathroom and a medication room on the ground floor.

Day care sessions are available for residents who wish to have the company of other residents but not necessarily in need of full time care. The home offers one free taster session for day care residents as well as offering pre-bookable respite breaks (availability permitting). Full laundry facilities are included in the cost of your accommodation and towels and flannels are provided by the home.

All meals are all homecooked by the Head Chef using fresh ingredients. They offer a varied menu for lunch and teatime with two hot options at lunch and a hot and buffet style teatime choice. They are also able to cater for a variety of special dietary and cultural needs. Drinks and snacks are always available throughout the day and night.

There is a hairdresser that visits the home weekly or you can continue to use your own hairdresser and benefit from the use of the salon. A Chiropodist also visits the home every 6 weeks together with an outside hearing clinic and opticians.

An extensive range of activities provided by Activity Co-ordinators and staff ensure an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

My husband was a resident of Beckfield House from January 2021 until February 2024 and in that time I and my family were more than happy at the care he received during those years. We took him out for meals during that time and he was always happy to return. I have nothing but praise for the staff that
took care of him. During his last few days the staff were amazing. They took such care of my husband and were so supportive to our family. We couldn't have found a better place for him to spend his final years.

Thank you very much for your kind words. We truly appreciate your lovely comments. Over the years, we've learnt that providing the best care for a resident often means supporting the whole family, as we understand it can be a challenging time for everyone involved. Your husband was such a lovely man! We all miss him

My relative is very happy and settled in the care home. They comment that the food is very good and the staff are "very kind" and look after them well.

Just received a lovely phone call from Mum telling me all about the lunchtime activities Beckfield House Residential Home has hosted this week.
Greek day yesterday with traditional Greek food which Mum referred to as being "absolutely delicious".
10/10 to the chef. The best moussaka ever!
And todays
lunchtime theme was 'pirates'.
Mum said the staff's attention to detail dressing the dining tables was just brilliant.
Thank you to all the staff, it's so nice to hear Mum upbeat. Days can be long when you are in care. Losing independence after a long spell in hospital has taken it's toll but phone calls like today's give us all hope.
Thanks, once again, to all the staff involved.

Beckfield House feels like a family home where all staff work to provide the residents with the individual care and comfort they need to feel safe and welcome. Residents are encouraged to maintain as much independence as they can. A wide and varied range of activities are on offer. For those who cannot
or will not take part, the activities team ensure they have quality one-to-one attention. I'm impressed with the way all staff adopt to meet Mum's ever-changing needs who ranges from being incapable to do anything one day to being fully mobile a few days later. It is a comfort to know that, if I am unable to visit for a period of time, Mum is well cared for and will be to the end of her days.

No serious concerns over wife's care. I have unlimited access to her and I believe she is as happy as can be expected under the present circumstances. Carers/staff do as much as possible to ensure her well-being, even though they may be short-staffed at times. All in all, satisfactory.

Reply from Jeffrey Deane, Director at Beckfield House Residential Home

Thank you for your review as feedback is always welcome to help us improve the service for our residents. There are many activities that do take place each week in the Home which we encourage all residents to participate in if they want to.
I just wanted to confirm that the home is not short-staffed at all and is all staff are employed by us with little or no agency staff involved. We also run a staff bank scheme to offer flexibility for those members of staff who cannot commit to a regular number of hours each week.

My mum has been a resident at Beckfield for almost two years. She went to live at Beckfield after a long stay in hospital. Prior to that she had lived with her family locally. It was a difficult decision to make, but I'm more than happy with the care that Mum receives. The staff are caring and kind
and seem to truly love the residents. The activities that they're encouraged to participate in are brilliant; baking, crafts, music, exercise and the relationships with the local community are good with local children's groups visiting. They have even had animals visiting, the picture of my mum with a chicken on her knee was a delight.
I have only had to raise a concern on one occasion in the time that my mum has been there and it was dealt with immediately. Communication is open and honest with any concerns that the staff may have being communicated with me straight away.

All staff are very good at what they do. Rooms are very basic, could do with a bit of colour. You are allowed to personalise the rooms for your loved ones. They get everyone to join in and socialise, including my mum and she has always been a loner, so I'm really chuffed with that. She has made friends
in there and does have a laugh now. It's a hard thing to put someone into a home, but I know she is in safe hands now. I did it for as long as was safe to do so, but there comes a time when you have to think of their safety. Activities are great they get them doing so much. Baking, knitting, games, gardening, people go in to sing to them, they cater for everyone who wants to join in. I didn't want to take this road with Mum, but it's been good for her, no regrets now.

Thank you for your review, always good to receive feedback about the service we provide and the accommodation at Beckfield House. We will look at the decoration of the rooms to see what improvements we could make to brighten them up further. We are glad your mum has settled in so well and enjoys the many activities on offer, which is very important for all the residents and their wellbeing.

Beckfield House is an older building which has been converted to meet its current purpose and as a result, compromises had to be made to resident accommodation (the bedroom I occupied, for example, lacked en suite facilities and I had to walk the length of a landing - about 7 or 8 yards - to the bathroom/WC.
Strangely, this lacked a means by which the door could be locked to ensure privacy.
My room also lacked a TV but the house's WiFi signal was strong enough to enable TV (and the likes of internet sites etc.) to be viewed without difficulty on my personal smartphone.
Breakfast (08:30), lunch (12:30) and tea (17:30) were catered with a choice of 2 main and 2 dessert courses normally offered for lunch. Additionally, soup or sandwiches were offered to those not wanting a full meal.
Strangely, it did not appear a full-time cook was employed throughout my 6-week stay (although the various cooks who provided meals certainly did more than just 'fill in').

Reply from Jeffrey Deane, Director at Beckfield House Residential Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review of Beckfield House this is always appreciated by the directors and management of the home. The home consists of both the older part of the building which has its own charm but fewer ensuite facilities and a newer part where all rooms have ensuite facilities. Residents are placed in different rooms in the home on arrival depending on their individual needs and requirements and this is an important part of the care planning process. Residents are encouraged to bring their own TV if they require this facility in their room however there is a Smart TV in one of the lounges where residents can watch TV together. The food we offer our residents is a very important part of the experience and we are glad that this has been recognised and appreciated. We have a number of cooks employed by the home as they usually work part-time to cover the 7-day service that we provide.

Large rooms and staff are very helpful and caring.
The downside is I think they are short-staffed as some of the help buzzers seem to be switched on for a long time without being answered.
Also, the patio at the rear is covered in bird droppings and looks neglected.

Reply from Jeffrey Deane, Director at Beckfield House Residential Home

Thanks for your review and the very positive comments you made about our staffing. We have recently employed a new manager and as a result, our staffing is now up to full in the establishment and we are also busy building up our own staff bank. The patio at the rear of the building is regularly cleaned by our maintenance staff however at this time of the year it will sometimes appear a bit untidy. We will endeavour to keep the area clean and looking nice in the future as we know our residents like to look out into the garden area.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.383)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.383) out of 10 for Beckfield House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.483 for Beckfield House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (15 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 118 Ratings = 4.483

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beckfield House Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 27 registered maximum number of service users is 5.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
