My mother had a spell in hospital during September. She is 96 years old and when the hospital sent her back to Patchett Lodge because they "could do no more for her medically". I believe she would not be with me now if it had not been for the care and support given to her by the carers and other staff
at the care home. Mum has been in Patchett Lodge for the last 3 years and I cannot sing the praises high enough that I have for the carers and all other staff at the home - thank you is not enough.

I have been attending daycare here for four years now and have nothing but praise for the staff, conditions and amenities. It is lovely here, we go outside in the summer and enjoy the nice gardens- the food is wholesome and excellent! Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They treat me like a VIP
and attend to my every need. I get on well with the other residents as well as occasionally spend longer spells here in respite which is very nice. Patchett Lodge is very close to where I live and my son who is also my main carer brings me here; he is very impressed as well. A super place! 10 out of 10.

Staff unfailingly helpful if on the odd occasion, unable to help, supplied with a reason. Residents not treated like half-witted three-year-olds as so many so called carers are inclined to do when one gets past retirement age.

On the whole my mother receives kind and friendly care from current staff. Any concerns that have been dealt with very well. Redecorating of rooms would improve the environment (not just my mothers room) Food seems to have become difficult for many residents to enjoy due to poor quality, my mother now
feels comfortable and at home in the care home of which I am very grateful.

Reply from Charlotte Molesworth, Home Manager at Patchett Lodge

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I am pleased that you are happy with the care your mother receives here at Patchett Lodge. We appreciate all feedback and are happy to advise that our planned maintenance programme includes a number of bedroom, bathroom, corridor refurbishments including a revamp of our hair dressing salon. I can also confirm that we have a meeting scheduled with our residents and kitchen team to talk about preferences for our new summer menu.

Since mums admission in to Patchett Lodge in Nov 15 I can only say that her care has been excellent. The staff are brilliant and very quickly got to know mum and her ways (she has vascular dementia). They quickly notice changes in her and contact the doctor if necessary (most recently she has been struggling
with some of her medication so they got it changed to a chewable version to make it easier). In Jan mum went through an upset phase and before we could mention it they had sat down with her and had a chat and she improved amazingly. An excellent home and staff that deserves more money allocated to it.

I came to stay at Patchett Lodge in April after a nasty fall at home. I broke my femal and damaged the bones around my kneecap of my left leg (i've got brittle bones) and a fracture to the right ankle. My left leg was in a brace and my right ankle in plaster. I spent two weeks in a different home and
was then transferred to Patchett Lodge for a stay of 4 weeks, I couldn't go home and I am still here after 4 months. The atmosphere here is lovely, nurses are so caring and helpful, and they always have time to hear your problems. I'm waiting for a package to be put together, and then hopefully I will be able to return home, but will need help there also. If I ever have to choose a care home again it will be Patchett Lodge, I live in the area, and one or two nurses are going to visit me - isn't that good of them. I really needed help, and couldn't have asked for a better care home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.387)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.387) out of 10 for Patchett Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.687 for Patchett Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.687

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Patchett Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
